    Chef's kiss of a post.

    Not anti-Warne but feeling as despondant as quite a few of us are about his managerial abilities.

    We want to believe, but we're given scant reason to do so.

    If I could be arsed with the backlash I'd create a thread asking people what it is about what they've seen of Paul Warne as the manager of Derby County that leads them to believe that it will come good given time. It's still too early to judge is the usual answer, which isn't really an answer at all tbh.

    Name 5 genuinely positive things that Warne has done and/or reasons which justify his continued tenureship without mentioning Rotherham or the EFL, or the fear of the unknown etc, you know? an actual defence of Warne and his football that isn't based largely on blind faith and past successes at a very different club.

    It feels like there are some just wilfully ignoring it muddying any evidence presented to them and grasping at whatever straw they can to.... I'd say defend him but often it's not even that, just picking apart arguments and making strawman suppositions to deflect from the issue at hand.

    Oh come on now, he did ask to get the coffee machine working again! And he also errrrrr......yeah, that's it 🤣

  2. I re-watched his first press conference and he waffled on about football being "theatre" and entertaining the fans. How he wanted to create a team the fans would applaud after every game. Here's a few comments he made that sound like sick jokes now:

    Style of play;

    "If you've got really good footballers, you're going to play football. If you've got really good athletes, you're going to make it as athletic as you can"

    Before then going on to say;

    "I think here we've got really good footballers who will know they're very good athletes. They don't know yet but they'll know" (followed by a wry smile that makes his face rather punchable).

    How he wants the fans to feel;

    "Our job in League 1 is to make the Derby fans feel like a million dollars. Put on a product they enjoy watching and can see what the team are trying to do"

    Well, his style of football makes me feel like s***, even some of the players are unsure of what they're supposed to be doing and his stubborn nature of wishing to turn footballers into "athletes" has failed us.

    Add his recruitment into the mix (considering his stubborn nature of sticking with his 'system') and he comes across as a clueless fool. How I wish we could get rid of him tomorrow!

    If we'd brought Warne in at the start of the season, and allowed him to sign players that he wanted for the system that he wants to play, I'd have supported that, even though I might not enjoy the style of football (assuming he'd play similarly to his Rotherham team). But given that we've got a squad 80% of which has been signed by Rosenior, I'd have stuck with him for the season at least, unless it was made clear that the squad wasn't happy with him and his coaches.

    Allegedly this was our plan, or the idea was at least floated. I'm only going off a twitter comment but it intrigues me somewhat.

    Did the players help encourage the interim role for LR to occur? Did Warne wish to wait and see what backing he got from his chairman? Was it to do with time constraints and wishing to keep any form of continuity we could until the season was properly underway? and so forth. I think there will still be questions unanswered.

    However, if Warne is indeed our new manager then he isn't too bothered about not making the recruitments himself, as he would feel he could achieve promotion with the tools he has, so to speak.

  4. Here's a great tactical analysis of how Warne likes to set his team up. I'd like to highlight the willingness to adjust his formation when things aren't working, as well as this paragraph (which may ease some concerns amongst a few of you):

    "Instead, Warne’s side are actually quite flexible, capable of playing out from the back, going direct, or even sitting deep and counterattacking."

  5. Well, I'm certainly rather happy about this, if many others seem apoplectic.

    Everyone continues to stress how much of a 'nice guy' Liam was and yet Millers fans would say exactly the same about Warne. Regardless, being "nice" doesn't make one a good manager. I'd also argue that Rosenior didn't convince me with the way he spoke about the game, as others suggest he did for them.

    Also, whilst we could agree that LR was learning, I'd argue it was too slowly. That sounds laughable considering how short a stint he has had as interim manager but he himself has vehemently defended the pathetic decision to fanny about at the back. He was proud of it, yet it couldn't be more clear that this was a foolish move. That is gravely concerning, in regards to LR's future as a competent manager. PW has learned well and Rotherham fans mostly adore him.

    Fans will always find things to moan about but so many have been so right in pointing out our failings and imbalances this season and yet a stubborn LR persisted with poor team structures and naive tactical decisions. Again, nothing here shows LR will make a good manager.

    So, we come to 'style of play' and I feel we've been quite unanimous in thinking that although we've shown brilliance at times this season, we've played the ball too slowly and predictably too often. Again, in an early interview, LR said we needed to be "more patient" (MORE?!).

    For what it's worth, whilst Rotherham tend to play direct, their passages of play can vary and there are many Rotherham fans saying they liked the football their team displayed. I'd take only conceding 11 goals away all season in League 1, as Rotherham did. We might steal some wins away from home then ?

    But in all seriousness, I hope this has been agreed (allegedly we approached PW before their game against Boro) and he brings his backroom staff too. Onwards and upwards. I'm even more excited for the rest of the season now. Bring it on!

  6. Well, at least this is happening prior to Liam putting fresh ink on a contract.

    As others say, he seems a nice bloke but his ethos doesn't work with the players we have. He takes pride in playing football that we all know doesn't work and I'm sure he remarked about our attackers needing to be "more patient" in an interview a while back. He's simply not good enough and perhaps the players are growing frustrated as they can see this too.

    A new manager is required soon or else this will be another disappointing season. Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked we have a team to support but it's torture at times watching us play.

  7. Wow. What a HUGE win!!!

    I'm absolutely gutted I couldn't see it on Sky's red button but even more gutted I wasn't one of those who were actually there. Fair play to all of you who were, sounds like you were immense.

    Incredible to get just our 2nd away win of the season, on a cold week night at Stoke, with barely any rest from our last outing too. I'm typing too much now but I'm so blooming happy. 3 in a row!!! Let's keep it going. COYR!!!!
