Shipped 4 v Chesterfield but they hadn't had 2 full on training sessions that day. We had. At Shrewsbury we had players out of position because it was their turn to get minutes in their legs, something PW said in a prior interview. Had we also had one or more training sessions that day as well?
Many fans seem to be displaying what I call "scoreboard journalism". Unable to look dispassionately at a game, especially a pre season friendly, and take circumstances into account. If you simply take the scores from those 2 games, yes, it was crap. Look into the background of the game, look at what the staff said pre game and then you should be able to understand the why of the matter. At Barnsley, according to the staff, we can expect, barring injury, PWs current first choice first XI in the formation he sees it in. Further signings in this window will probably see a couple drop to the bench and maybe a change of system as well. Barnsley should be the best team we have faced so far. A positive result would be nice but a positive performance is, IMO, more important as it will show that the squad is closer to where it should be than fans have so far thought. Further improvement against Valladolid and we're set for the season opener against Blackburn. Whatever happens, I'll be supporting DCFC.

CBT isn't the only player who is a winger. NML and Barks are as well. The latter two came here because Rosenior brought them in as wingers, they left their previous clubs because they didn't want to be utilised as wing backs. That's 3 wingers we don't play as wingers, why not bring in a 4th, that way they could play bridge together.

Our thoughts, even those of fans who have played and/or coached at a reasonable level are irrelevant. PW had a plan last season. It worked. He and his staff have a plan this season, they say themselves that they have followed it so far to get players to a certain level of fitness.
The game at Barnsley will see something akin to our current first XI in the shape the staff think we'll be using. I say "something akin to" as we will, IMO, see some players exiting, some on loan others never to return and some incoming. Zetterström, hopefully. A striker and a left back being the other 2 priorities IMO.
August is likely to be irrelevant to the rest of the season (whether it's a good or a poor start) as we'll still be integrating players we don't yet have, some of whom might not arrive until the end of August. Once the window is shut, we will have more of an idea where we are in comparison to the rest. We will need to be a dozen or so games into the season before we can order the champers or start getting our knives sharpened.
What's happened thus far was intentional. Hopefully, what's to come is equally so and positive.

    1. NML has yet to play in the Championship for DCFC. You should also remember that, whereas the rest had 9 weeks off, he had just 2 before going off to play for Guatemala. So far in pre season, he hasn't played as a winger, the role that saw him plat excellently last season. I'd send him off to sunny climes for 3, maybe 4, weeks of rest as his body will need it. Once back I'd play him in his proper role rather than as a striker or a #10. Play him out of position and you may be right. Play him down the left and he'll score and he'll rack up the assists again.
    2. Fozzy was our best player yesterday at Shrewsbury. So far in pre season he's been our best defender, better than Nyambe, better than Nelson, better than Cashin, better than Bradley. On performances so far, he should start at Barnsley on Wednesday with Nelson and Cashin either side of him.
    3. Elder might be injury prone, in which case I'd agree, however, although we have Osborn and Thompson who CAN play as LWB, Warne sees both as being more central. That means Elder is the only natural LWB we have. He wasn't fit when he came to us and stayed that way. Hopefully he's now fit again and maybe we can see how good he can be.
You'd have less detractors if you could try to explain why you think NML would be bad in the SBC. Idem ditto Fozzy. Just saying x is good or y is bad doesn't make it so.

    A very good post
Th good news is that we secured promotion  last season. The bad news is I did not think we were very good.
It reminds me of when Villa were promoted from the Champ a few seasons back ( albeit through the play offs) as the fifth best side in the division. They knew that wholesale changes were required, and delivered them, but over time.
Like MadAmster I anticipate a difficult start, but am confident that we will settle down after a few months.
There is an enormous amount of brinksmanship required  in the summer window.  Fortunately we have a solid manager, great support which can support decent player wages, and  a "destination club" which players want to sign for.

Swap the Netherlands for Spain and with you on that... I do, however, love going back for a long weekend.
On the subject of education, there's always a space following a comma and other punctuation. Also "its", when it's an abbreviation of "it is" should have an apostrophe between the t and the s.

Off topic, there's a Northern Soul All Dayer at the Venue, Abbey Street, Derby from 16:00 on Sunday, August 25th, through to 01:00 on Monday, August 26th and I'll be flying over to do a couple of sets. It would be great to put faces to names

Looked vulnerable down our left 1st half. Naylor made good use of the space with several uncontested runs, two of which led to goals. Our midfield, last season, all too often allowed the opposition MF to run up to 40 or 50 yards without being challenged. That happened again last night. It has to stop.
Cash and a couple of others looked leggy and I put that down to the after effects of a week of 3 sessions a day in 30° plus heat in Spain. They'll all be back to "normal" before Blackburn on the 9th.
2 up top? Not against that as I have always believed that "strikers hunt in pairs". I just don't see NML as one of such a pairing. He needs to stay out wide and use his strengths.
Goudmijn looked as useful as when I've seen him over here. The main lesson he needs to learn, and will IMO learn quickly, is that he'll be given far less time on the ball than he was here in the Netherlands.
I don't think, based on yesterday, that Luthra will get a contract offer.

Ward is still recovering from knee surgery which is why he hasn't played yet.
NML does, indeed, need to play out wide.
CBT hasn't showed yet why he was so good at Charlton. I still think he'll come good.
The Academy player is Alex Stepien-Iwumene. Looks a decent prospect
Goudmijn just needs to learn that he won't get the time in the SBC that he did in NL. He'll learn quickly.
