I agree it doesn't sit right that Lawrence, who was drink driving, is still employed but Keogh, who was just a passenger, is sacked. However it's not about that. The club can't continue to throw millions away to a 32 year old who won't be able to play for another year. Therefore, they offered him a new contract, so he can stay at the club, but on reduced wages. To me, that is fair enough. Keogh didn't accept that, so the club are pretty much forced to sack him. It's a difficult situation but that's how it is.

I dunno, Conor Sammon convinced a fair few he was a footballer. Anything's possible.

Do you really believe that Keogh would be able to convince 'anyone', that after being in the pub for several hours with his team-mates that he didn't realise they might not be sober (whether he believed it or not)?

By all accounts Keogh and Mel are/were very close. If someone had to make a hard nosed business decision against someone they were close with, it is fairly likely that it would leave someone upset I’m sure?

I am quite sure it isn’t something that the club wanted to do, but the head probably does have to rule the heart when you’d be paying out the best part of £2m in wages for a player who’s injured themselves by being an idiot

If he was sober...then letting his teammates drink drive and being a passenger, potentially without a seatbelt... Even worse.

I have felt too emotional about the whole situation to offer my view up to now.
My heart is broken for a good captain and warrior for DCFC. To be sacked from the club you have given 100% to on the pitch over seven gruelling seasons must be humiliating and make you feel dreadful.
However, my head now questions how much of Keogh's passion for Derby is real. The least favourable offer he turned down from the club, if accurate, of £3,000 per week, is more than the prime minister's salary and only slightly less than the chief police constable of Derbyshire who has responsibility for a huge budget and staff team  who do a tremendously difficult job every day at work.
He was also being offered free state of the art rehabilitation facilities, could start to work on his coaching badges if he wished and presumably would also be free to supplement his income with appearances on Sky ("like you say") or other options if that is his choice. Most importantly in all this he was being offered an opportunity to retain his status as a good servant of the club and the adoration and support of the fans.
He has chosen to reject all this for what? More money. Not much of a swap in my opinion.
His action will now by actively costing the club too as they will have been taking expensive legal advice and will have to continue to do so over the appeal and possible tribunal.
People are wondering why no official statement from Derby. I wonder whether the 'statement' we are reading is actually the dismissal letter to Keogh as the wording in it, including the 14 days' appeal time, reads like a letter from HR.
I don't know if I am being overly supportive of my club, but the whole way this story has broken makes me think it has come from Keogh's side. He clearly feels very aggrieved about the way he is being treated.
I also think this will have been going back and forward for some time, that this is just the latest play from the club and that they might have been hoping for a response from Keogh that would have allowed him a successful appeal, rather than a messy, public and prolonged visit to an industrial tribunal.
All this is huge speculation on my part, for which I hold my hands up. It is coloured by my huge love for our club, rather than for any individual player, no matter how good a servant he has been to DCFC.
What I do know is that while Keogh still has my sympathy, he's lost my respect.

I don't buy this kind of talk though.
Maybe because when I was 24 or 25 I could walk on my own two feet and I didn't need or want excuses for my mistakes. Maybe that the reason I accept mistakes from people but not excuses.
If poor little Tom and precious little Mason look to Keogh as some sort of guidance then they need to grow the duck up
I'm the same age as Keogh. I'm responsible for me and my daughters. I make mistakes and so do they. I accept consequences and I learn from them. Would i feck take a work colleague out and accept responsibility for him because he's 25. You can stick a piece of elastic on my arm every Saturday and still get the same answer
In this world everyone knows a dhead but nobody admits to being one.
I'm capable of fecking up. So are you. Maybe people need to learn to say that more instead of looking to point the finger.
Mason Bennett is a Dad isn't he? Do he need Keogh to come around and wipe his arse while he wipes his own child

Not really, he's never going to get a better offer.
It's take £3k and downsize to a smaller mansion, make a fraction of that as a pundit and live in a normal house or get a job as a big brother contestant impersonator and live in a flat above a chippy.
Richard Keogh, the first footballer to lose a million pounds when his teammate hit the post.

This is going to get me a lot of stick but I feel the club have massively cokked up here. I for one was hoping our rich will stay and one day manage us. As a young CB at school vidic and keogh were my idols. Vidic was my idol as a cb with his willing to put his body on the line. And keogh was my idol from pure sportsmanship ability and passion and everything. He was the first name I got on the back of my shirt. My favourite ever Derby player. Not the most gifted or anything but a true grafter and a lovely guy. I’m heartbroken by the news. The club need to think about getting him back either that be as a player or a coach because he is invaluable to this club

The biggest mistake is not how they have dealt with Keogh but reinstating the other two far too soon .

He's a lucky boy from a commercial aspect I would have terminated his and Bennett's contract, Keogh from an age will not play again perspective Bennett worthless .Lawrence would be on the list in January as he has a value.
