Am I the only person who couldn't give a toss about the Olympics?

Have watched the Olympics since I was born, as far as I know. Well, I can at least remember Barcelona and beyond. Had looked forward to those Olympics aswell, loved the Freddie Mercury intro. Linford Christie, Sally Gunnel, Steve Backley, Kris Akabusi, allllriiiiight.

Yeah, can't wait, anyone know if Ross Davenport has qualified this time? Loads of sports to watch, looking forward to the cycling the most and I reckon we'll win a shed load of medals there!

Ross has got a place on the relay but didn't qualify for the individuals. I hope he nicks a medal.

I knew his brother when we were kids. Was round their house once for tea, Ross had seconds, and declared he was going to swim in the olympics one day. Can't remember how old he was, about 9 or 10.

He once won all his events at the Belper Marlin club championships with a broken leg. Was an ambitious youngun.

Good to see Derby making a name for itself during the olympics 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

London 2012: Badminton teams in hotel food poisoning

Five members of Australia and Canada's badminton teams were among a number of guests who fell ill with food poisoning at a hotel in Derby.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) investigated when guests suffered stomach bugs after eating at the Mickleover Court Hotel last week.

Norovirus has been identified as the cause of the infection, the HPA said.

The hotel, which briefly shut after the illness but has now reopened, said it closed as a precautionary measure.

The three Australians have fully recovered but two Canadians had to miss a warm-up match on Saturday.

The Australian badminton players were Ross Smith, Renuga Veeran and Glenn Warfe, while Michelle Li and Alex Bruce were the ill Canadians.

The HPA said: "Norovirus has been identified as the cause of the infection and we are working with environmental health officers from South Derbyshire District Council to identify the source of the illness.

"Norovirus is the most common cause of infectious gastroenteritis (diarrhoea and vomiting) in England and Wales.

"People can suffer from norovirus at any time of the year, although activity increases in the winter months.

"It usually resolves in one or two days and there are no long-term effects."

The hotel said it did not feel it could take the risk of waiting for results of tests from Environmental Health Officers before closing.

It added that the hotel was now open as normal and a team worked hard to reduce any disruption to events that had been scheduled to take place over the weekend.

I wouldn't give a toss about the Olympics either if the USA sucked at it. So I understand why you don't care.

You do well in the 'world' series.......do you play owt else 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

The endless "ooh look here's a flame passing by the end of Scrotum Close" has been fairly tedious. As has the notion that BBC 'news' = 'adverts for the Olympic coverage'.

But there's loads of Great British sporting success to look forward to. Just not on the pitch. Obviously.

Considering the size of the US population, to get fewer than twice the number of gold medals that GB got in 2008, that sucks. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Well that's unfair, there is only so many sports at which we can win despite our population. It is impossible for a direct correlation of how much faster, stronger, and seriously more athletic than you are as a nation vs nation comparison. But know that we are. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I think one of my funniest Olympic memories is when they had baseball in, and the US were annihilated by Cuba. Good times! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

We choose our sports to dominate pretty well - play to our strengths - Rowing, Cycling, Yachting, basically anything that involves us sitting on our @r$e$! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I have two problem with the Olympics.

Firstly - regarding 2012 only - I'm just sick to death of it before it's started. It's got a bit like Christmas, endless promotion months before it starts. Well I've had enough already.

Secondly - my real issue - The hundreds of so-called sports that have been stuffed into it. In fact it's not just "so-called" sports, it's sports that already have their own major following and Championships. Football?! Tennis?! Ridiculous. Completely de-values the Olympics. I feel the IOC ruin it themselves.

And don't get me started on synchronised swimming...

Why shouldnt we publise it? Its OUR Olympics, more than likely the only time in any of our lives or even our childrens lives that this great event will be in the UK, it cannot be shown on the media circus enough, we need to EMBRACE things like this and not scooge Macduff them away...bah humbug!! Its the Olympics, its at home!

Secondly the sports you moan about...to the people who take part in these sports it is a very important and demanding sport, i respect anyone who is going to dedicate thatuch of their lives to anything, sycranised swimming, that ribbon waving gymnastics etc etc, it might not be my scene and hold slim or no interest for me personally but i know that the competitors h e worked their socks off to get where they are and therfore have earned my respect.

And you should see some of the events that ARENT in the Olympics any longer, like poetry for one..!
