Scuffle in the East Stand

anyone else see the scuffling in the East Stand lower (near the NE corner)?

Really disappointed with the stewarding - there was a big argument going on for a couple of minutes with lots of the crowd calling to the stewards to deal with it - by the time they noticed and got off their backsides, there were fists flying and a fair number of upset people (particularly those with kids in the area). The club need to look at the stewarding and make sure that they are actually watching what's going on rather than staring blankly into space - this could easily have been dealt with before it got ugly.....

It's not the stewards jobs to break up arguements. Hell i'd be thrown out every game for arguing with the bloke next to me. The stewards need to be less in your face for daring to take a bottle with a lid on it into the stands, rather than being more over-zealous than the already are. Let folks sort things out themselves without the need for people to be arrested/thrown out/banned etc is my view.

Stewards are there to sort out arguments. Police have limited powers, talking from experience. Have you noticed when a streaker goes onto the pitch it is not the police who go charging in it is the stewards. The view is the stewards are there to keep the peace and the police will only become involved if required. The reason being police can provoke further issues. However being in the corner at the top looking down there are two types of stewards. One is the normal one on the terrace and the other looks like security (different jackets and they were the ones who escorted the fans out). For me the normal stewards should try the old proven technique of "hey up mate is everything ok" whilst contacting the control to ask for help. It was mismanaged and luckily did not go further.

I'm in that area (I was just to the left of the scuffle) and it certainly went on too long before being dealt with. The main idiot involved had a red and white crest on his top but I couldn't see if it was a Southampton one.

On a different note, did anyone see the poor bloke near the fireplace carpark before the game? Awful scenes, I was really shook up.

I saw it stopped to help as best I could. I ended up getting someone to phone the ambulance and legging it down to Toys R Us to get a first aid kit.

Not much else I could, there were a couple of first aiders working on him so I left and got the wife and kids to the ground.

Got to say it was pleasing to see how many people stopped to help, and the young girls who were obviously shook up by it and offered to help kind of restores faith in the youth of today.

Didn't look good when I left, hope he's okay.

We saw a bit od hoo haa, one guy in a blue jumper landed a proper right hook on another guy. Don't know what went off though, we thought maybe an away fan had snuck in. Who knows?

To the gent who collapsed near the fireplace shop - it was awful to witness him falling back like that and even worse to see first aiders trying desperately to get his heart started. We really hope he made it but it didn't look promising.

We think that he was probably on his way to the match and I was praying all match for a win for him.

what should not be allowed in the future that away fans should not be allowed in the home ends and yes it was a southaption fan which shouting something towards derby fans and towards our players. abd when first punch was thrown as i was right in line with it as i was higher up, i think stwards tried to get there, but i know from experance when there is a large crowed it is differcult to get to the people as i work in the cinerma which holds a lot people when it is packed out.
