Here are the highlights of the game against Man U.

It would appear we were the better side in the first half and should have scored more than one.  United seemed to get the upper hand in the second half without creating too many chances, but we then gave away a penalty (we must learn to commit fouls before the player gets into the box.........) and then a second through poor defending (overplaying at the back).  We had a great chance to equalize, didn't take it and within 10 seconds United had their third.

While it is difficult to make many conclusions on the basis of 10 mins highlights, Cruz Allen certainly looks to have a bit about him as a creative midfielder.  Lennon Wheeldon caused United a lot of problems on the first half and, while we didn't see much of Jack Thompson till the end, the United Commentary team praised his handling.  Incidentally, the commentators seemed to take pretty balanced view, and were often complimentary to us.  Staying on a non-partisan theme, they have a player called Shea Lacey who certainly looks like he has a very promising future.

Allen finished last season (still an U16 at the time) with 2 goals in 3 starts. He's continued this season (now a 1st year scholar) just as well with 2 goals and 2 assists in 5 league starts. He's also grabbed himself a goal for Wales U17s, playing 78 mins across 2 goals.

Jack Thompson is another promising player, having made his England U17 debut aged just 15.

Others highly regarded being: Niall McAndrew who made his Ireland U17 debut aged 15, Tristan Gill (LB, 1st year scholar), Jayden Davidson (LW) who scored 7 in 12 U18 league games last season, and Harry Hawkins (2nd year scholar who was a U21 regular last season)

The 18s need to put Dejuane Brown back in for a couple of games. Give them a bit more fire power and hopefully a win or two.

We seem to have had a tricky start to the season. The 4 teams the U18s have lost to occupy the top 4 places in the table, with a narrow 3-2 defeat vs Wolves. The other 3 (Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool appear to be a level above all others this season. We don't play any of those until the New Year now, so I'm hopeful the U18 squad will settle down and put a good run together even without the likes of Brown being an option.

Thanks for this.

Absolutely rubbish editing from Man U TV, though!

I agree we are a bit naive at times with our defending, still a young team, and there was some good stuff in there, too (if you could spot it!) 😂
