Regarding 'average' players...

Derbyshire as a county have been, for the last 20 years with a couple of exceptions, one of the 3 weakest counties in the championship as far as results are concerned, have the smallest average attendance and the smallest membership.

I'll settle for 'average' at the moment any day of the week.

Isn’t Aitcheson an overseas player ? Can’t play with all 3….

Southport is near the sea but not quite over it ? Hans is right, Dustin Melton is the South African overseas player, unlike the South African not overseas players Du Plooy and Cohen.

How's the line up looking for next season then, something like this?

Godleman

Masood

Reece

Madsen

Du Plooy

Guest (wkt)

Dal

Thomson

Lakmal

Connors

Aitcheson

That looks about right to me, with the following making up the squad..

Tom Wood

Harry Came

Alex Hughes

Mattie McKiernan

George Scrimshaw

Dustin Melton

Mikey Cohen

Certainly looking a lot better already, just by adding Masood and Lakmal. Top 6 looks strong on paper if they all perform as they're capable... Came, Wood & Hughes are decent backup and likely to come into play for the 1 day stuff.

The big questions are can everyone’s favourite guy Anuj Dal keep his end of season form with the bat up and can Thomson carry a full time spinners role.

Then Scrimshaw (really tall) and Cohen (left arm slingy) give a couple of different options with the ball.

Looks a decent squad on paper.

Maybe we can even challenge for promotion for a change given it's only an 8 team division with 2 going up!

I guess Notts will be favourites, with them disregarding the last 2 years and going back to what the divisions would have been in 2020, they look a lot stronger than the rest. Durham should be up there too and probably Middlesex, they won’t like slumming it in the second division 2 ?

I have enough pre season optimism to hope we can at least compete near the top.

It's Mark Watt for the T20’s, 25 year old left arm slow. Plays for Scotland, played a few games for us back in 2019. Remember him being decent and he comes back with more experience. Adds depth to the squad.

Very decent. He took a fourfer against Yorkshire at Queen's Park a few years ago in the slog de bowling cup (4-19, 2019) and is renowned for being miserly. He was also highly influential when Scotland defeated England in an ODI a few years ago. Remember those heady days when there was one form of the game that England were pretty decent at?
