I've reluctantly downloaded but dont have much confidence in it to be honest.

I wonder how many people want it  it cant download it? Both of my parents wanted to download it but have phones that are not compatible with the app apparently.

I've had 2 notifications via the app that someone close to me has had the virus at some point recently.

You try to get the details and the notification dissappears.

Apparently its a fault with the app. Its useless.

As If I’m going to have all the answers, Steve Jobs never had all the answers but surrounded himself with people who did. That’s what I’d expect from our leaders to implement my strategy. Just because you say it can’t  be done, doesn’t mean it can’t ,the same as I say it can be done doesn’t mean it can. We are two plebs on a football forum sharing our views

I’m not saying it is absolutely impossible.

I’m saying It can’t be done until we have the answers. Nobody has a solution to this problem. The consequences of implementing the strategy would be undeniably dire.

What do you think would happen if we implemented this strategy without knowing how to protect the vulnerable?

Yes fortunately they are aware of this problem and have issued the update to fix. It’s not perfect but it certainly isn’t useless.

Then the vulnerable who can’t protect themselves would be in a precarious position

They would, and we have many millions of vulnerable people in our country.

We simply cannot subject them to that risk knowing the consequences. It would be unthinkable.

Have to disagree. Its given out false information and caused confusion. It affects people's lives and decision making.

I had my 1st notification 10 days ago, and my latest one 2 hours ago. How long has it taken to realise its not working, to issuing a fix?

The actual app is not very user friendly and looks rushed and bodged together.

Hopefully they are using the data in the background to make informed decisions on lockdowns and industry closures.

It was rushed and bodged together. Unfortunately as with any app you are not aware of the problems until it is being used to this extent. They were made aware of the problem and issued the fix as quickly as they could.

I’m appreciate that it has caused confusion and has made people’s decision making difficult. I also realise people need to go to work to earn money etc. Unfortunately however we are living in a world that currently necessitates us to make selfless decisions.

It ain’t perfect, but it’s not useless.

That’s not meant to sound preachy. Sorry if it does.

I've seen a number of people advocating that everyone should return to living their normal pre-pandemic life. While those classified as vulnerable should remain shielded.

It all sounds well and good but who gets to decide who the vulnerable are, how long would this selection process take? Or will anyone be able to claim they are vulnerable and be allowed to shield? Will those shielding be compensated for any loss of income? I'll await to see who will be the first poster on here to start complaining about people abusing the shielding scheme.

How well will we be able to shield the vulnerable?  I noticed a news report stating a virus hotspot in Notts is due to a high number of cases at Lowdham Grange, one of her majesty's prisons. An establishment by it's very nature I'd have thought would have been safe from outside contact. Unless the prison guards are so eager to get some overtime in, they are turning up to work while being infectious with the virus.

So while the initial idea may be appealing to many and if all those being shielded are happy to go along with it. Putting it into practice would be far from easy.

Quote

Closing all schools could reduce R by 0.2-0.5

According to Sage

this is the largest single factor Listed, yet haven’t we been told that opening the schools has made no difference?
Kids don’t catch it etc etc.

It's 'officers', actually.

Do you not think there is movement between different category prisons, from courts, transfers for family ties, security ship-outs, hospital escorts?

And how can anywhere be safe when the virus shows no symptoms in some? Once in, it's likened to a cruise ship for spreading particles.

I would talk you through all the precautions a prison is currently taking, but I can't be arsed. You've caught me in your net.

It's like you think only prison officers work in a prison. Did you know that we are massively outnumbered daily by health care, mental health teams, parole boards, offender management teams, detail, admin etc. The movement in to a prison everyday is huge.

We’re still approaching this virus with a ‘forget the economy’ and ‘forget other medical issues’ mentality.

To those advocating a complete lockdown, how many lives through other causes are you prepared to sacrifice to slow/lessen the impact of Covid?

What you said about not being able to stop the spread into a secure system just compound what I was trying to show about how hard it will be to shield the vulnerable.

The bit about the guards sorry officers, that was naughty of me, sorry if you found it distasteful, for that I apologise.
