I remember when Derby invested loads during the Pickering years and expectations were high only for us to flop.

Are we doing that again under Mel Morris ?

When he achieves what Lionel achieved; getting in a top manager, gaining promotion and laying on a few years of great times in the PL, we can perhaps start to make the comparison.

To who? I don't think there will be a big queue of takers if Mel asked around and wanted to get back a decent chunk of the cash he's invested.

People have very short memories, LP was hounded out of the club and we ended up with the 3 amigos, who would want to go through that again?

Think you underestimate the value of a championship club to a lot of rich businessmen, especially abroad. The premier league is worth a vast amount, you can see that with all the foreign investment in other clubs in the division. A club like ours with a chance of getting into those riches along with the facilities and fan base we have should make us a very attractive proposition. Think he’d get more money than he bought us for, tho that wouldn’t counter what he’s spent it is true.

Second point is a valid one, it’s always a concern that we could end up with someone like that with the rather questionable fit and proper person regulations. I guess the ideal situation would be if mel retained a minor stake so he could keep an eye and make sure the buyer is the right sort of charectar, otherwise it is just a big risk.

Why on earth would you want Mel to sell ? So a Chinese consortium can take over and take the heart and soul out if the club ?

What heart and soul do we have at the moment? Who’s to say that a foreign consortium would result in that sort of effect anyway, I’m sure wolves aren’t moaning at getting to see players like neves! Not saying it’s always gonna be like that, but personally all I want is success for derby and progress in all areas, and simply put that costs money. Money mel can’t afford, totally understandably, running us in the championship the last few years has been very expensive.

The same bloke that made a profit when he sold the club to GSE because he couldn't afford to put in the amount of money needed last time he was incharge!

I remember when Jim was appointed, bookies weren't even taking bets on him and very few of our fans were keen. Lot's moaned about the fact that he wasn't even managing anymore (if I remember rightly he was at the LMA), his last job at Pompey had been alright in the early stages but he ended up getting sacked after they ended up in the relegation zone. His managerial career seemed to be pretty much over, hence the desk job!

I'd love to know what it was that Lionel saw in Jim, many chairmen probably wouldn't have entertained his application, given that his stock was low. Im glad he saw enough to appoint him as we would never have experience those great years in the mid to late 90's when Derby were a force in the Prem!

Yes I do remember, no one was jumping for joy at Jim's appointment. Obviously Mr Pickering took a big gamble. Maybe Jimmy's initial masterstroke was offering the coaching job to Mac. Halcyon days ....

I understand your point in some respects , but wolves is a one off case. Watching the game last night I admit I was envious of how good they are , I've watched them a fair few times this season and been impressed. But realistically how often would you get the world's most powerful agent come to your club ? We might see it more with the likes of Raiola etc etc .... Only time will tell. Buying your way unfortunately doesn't always get you out if this league.

I thought it might end in tears when MM sanctioned a £3 million deal (plus a lengthy contract) for a 32-year-old Shackell.

Sheffield Wed have made the same mistake....Fletcher, Wallace, Jones, Boyd.

Stop rubbing salt in our wounds, nobody likes realising that they’re buying Burnley has beens for top dollar.

Oh what has the world turned into?

Its about time Burnley knew their place and stopped flirting with Europe.

Let's be honest, recruitment has been by far and away the biggest issue - Yes you could criticise Mel for allowing Clement and to a lesser extent Pearson & McClaren blow their wads on garbage (while remembering it's his *****g money) but ultimately the manager has to bear the brunt of the criticism. I look at out 15/16 inward transfers and it makes me want to cry.

I don't feel like the tightening of the belt next season is a bad thing, I'd rather we tried to find a bargain than spunk millions on Johnson, Butterfield et al. I just with they could all be got rid off ASAP without messing us up on FFP. The future is bright, embrace it!

We can't keep blaming clement.

clement signed olsson, blackman, and camara. The rest were sam, mel and chris evans.

Maybe I should be more nuanced - The buck stops with Mel, that's the fact. Suggesting he is personally responsible for terrible signings that are blighting us to this day is and error. Certainly, the hiring of Rush & Evans in particular look, with the benefit of hindsight, disastrous. We're a far better club for Mel Morris (and Lionel Pickering) IMO.
