Riyad Mahrez

Problem is players rule the roost, most have no or very little loyalty to their prospective club or fans. Difficult position for the club to be put in, perhaps a compulsorily clause in contract should include the player having to pay a fee to the club for being allowed to terminate their contract early if not by mutual consent. Some thing in the region of 25% of the wages they would have earnt in the remainder of their present contract should make em think twice before putting pen to paper.

Premier league is rapidly becoming unsustainable, clubs gambling millions on the hope that they make the champions league for an almost gaurenteed £30m windfall, some will make it, City United, others won't. 5 years time you could see a large club collapse.

Why is precisely why the clubs have lunatics at the helm. Any other business you wouldnt run it, if it was unsustainable.

The EPL is awash with greed with ready made fixes in terms of the players they bring in.

Once loyality to british ownership and british players are gone.

Why even bother with an academy when you can let every other european league develop the talent.. and you can just cherry pick it once its ready.

The average clubs of the EPL are quite literally living in a fantasy land with their snobbish attitudes.

What I didn’t understand about it is what they really need him for? They’re not achieving anything this season, they’re not in trouble of relegation, doubt they’ll get the same production out of him ever again (particularly now) and someone who will go down as one of the greatest Leicester players ever has had his reputation tarnished.

The Sanchez debacle really brought out the worst in the pundits and yer da that have no sympathy for a player, anyone who ever wants a move is greedy or a Judas. It’s just lazy.

From a financial perspective, Leicester are idiots too. They could have got 60 million and a player for him, what we’re they playing at? They’ve got Gray, a star in the making, and Albrighton for the wings, I assume they’d have got a decent player from Man City too (I think it was going to be Patrick Roberts?).

Dont have to spend the 60 million instantly, let that money sit in the bank for the summer where I assume your new manager will want to have money to build his own team.

its clear they tryed to call man Citys bluff.. thinkign City would pay it, because they can.

Glad to see it bite them on the bum

Do they need the money though ? How much have they made in the last 2 seasons from winning the league and their champions league appearances? Not to mention their chairman is worth several billion. No need to let probably their best player go on deadline day just for the cash in that situation

Mahrez wanted to leave the summer of 2016 when he signed this contract, which he did knowing there wasn't a release clause. Someone close to him should make him look in the mirror and ask why only 2 clubs have ever made an offer for him, sorry one club, City insist they never made an offer now, this reaction isn't something someone like Pep will look favourably on. Neither will our owners, they refused to sell Slimani to West Ham because of a column Karen Brady wrote that offended them.

Leicester don't need the money and want to finish as high in the league as possible and also make a run in the Cup and they bid in the last 2 days of the window, had they come in earlier I think the deal would have been done

Sounds as though you're now likely to finish higher without mahrez than with.

If the rumours about other first teamers reaction to his antics are true.

Transfer requests are a thing because it null and voids all bonus’ to be paid to the player upon leaving the club. So in a way Mahrez would be doing that.

It’s a shame he’s decided to take a dump on his legacy at the club, he was a universally beloved hero, now...

Strange they let Drinkwater and Kante go so easily but there you go, also Vardy was very close to joining Arsenal IIRC.

Kante had a buy out clause, we had no choice, Vardy had one at that time, subsequently removed when he signed a new contract, Drinkwater, was vastly overrated by Leicester fans, personally I was never that convinced by him and we got an offer we found suitable and signed Silva for less, only FIFA incompetence (CAS appeal would have happened after January so no point doing it) stopped us using him for the first half of the season so he was allowed to move.

Had City bid for Mahrez early in the window there would have been wiggle room on the fee and time for a replacement to be signed.

Mahrez is now trying to force Leicester's hand, says he will resume training if he gets a promise that he will be allowed to leave in the summer.  https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/riyad-mahrez-to-end-leicester-11992100

He is intentionally hurting the club he is contracted to for self gain and that must not be tolerated.  The answer should IMO be, resume training immediately, accept fines for days away or never train at the club again and his contract to be let run out.

In an ideal world, but all the piece of paper does is stop a player playing for another club for the duration of that contract.

When Mahrez signed the new contract it was under Ranieri, managers can walk in the door and not fancy working with you, a player on the other hand has no choice.....well they do but that's when you sell them.

We'll be alright when robots take over, that way you can include a line that says you must give your 100% on the pitch and training, insert mood and tracking chips into them.

ManCity were not interested in Mahrez till Sane got injured at Cardiff they just think they can buy anybody They have 17 players out on loan so its not like they are short of players Glad Leicester stood up to them

If money is no issue for Leicester would love to see them make an example of him. Say fair enough and dont even let him come into train, let him sulk through the remainder of his contract, fine him his wages each week he doesnt turn up aswell.

By the end of his contract no one will want him anyway.

Trouble is money is an issue, for Leicester and every club.  Do what you suggest Paul (which must be very tempting)  and Leicester lose an asset worth anything between £50m and £100m - depending on who you believe. And have to deal with an unhappy player, constant media chat, Gordon Taylor's mob bending your ear every 5 minutes, never mind lawyers, and probably an impact on his mates in the dressing room.

The power is now with the players if they're prepared to use it and Mahrez will probably quietly get his way. Whether City will still want him is a whole different matter.

Someone has to take a stand. But you are right they won't.

His value has probably dropped already though, rumours man city have lost interest due to the players actions.

I do really wish someone would make a stand...make him rot to the point where he will be lucky for Oldham to sign him in a couple of years.

Leicester were greedy.

£65m for mahrez? Really ??

Think more a case of city and the player left it till the last few hours to drop it on them with little chance if finding a replacement so thought OK you can have hom but it will cost you.

Not a fan of Leicester but admire their stance.
