You seem to hate Villa as much as I do

I guess you have family (on my Mum's side) who are Villa fans like I do??

No, not particularly, mum's derby tup, dad's side all southern (prefer cricket and rugby) - it's been born out of the way they've been regarded, behaved, spent, reported in the media, the adulation of Bruce and Terry...just think it'd be fitting if they get a bit of a knock back.

If they're a bit more humble, I'll not have any issue with them.

Cardiff on the other hand are just so easy and natural to dislike, then they hired Neil Warnock

Fulham and Villa are obviously now too far ahead to miss out on the playoffs, so it really is a question of two from seven. There are numerous fixtures still to play between those seven, so 73 points should be enough.

Derby - Bolton (H), Wolves (A), Burton (A), Middlesbrough (H), Cardiff City (H), Aston Villa (A), Barsnley (H)

Middlesbrough - Forest (H), Sheff Utd (A), Bristol City (H), Derby (A), Millwall (H), Ipswich (A)

Bristol City - Millwall (A), Birmingham (H), Middlesbrough (A), Hull (H), Forest (A), Sheff Utd (H)

Millwall - Bristol City (H), Bolton (A), Sheff Utd (A), Fulham (H), Middlesbrough (A), Aston Villa (H)

Sheff Utd - Barnsley (A), Middlesbrough (H), Millwall (H), Birmingham (A), Preston (H), Bristol City (A)

Preston - Reading (A), Leeds Utd (H), QPR (A), Norwich City (H), Sheff Utd (A), Burton Albion (H)

Brentford - Ipswich (H), Forest (A), Fulham (A), QPR (H), Barnsley (A), Hull (H)

Looking at the fixtures, both Preston and Brentford IMO have the easier run-in. But still, if we got 73 points, Brentford would have to win five of their last six to catch us while Preston would have to get 13 points (plus a big GD swing - W4, D1, L1).

Interesting that both Boro and Sheff Utd play 4 of the fellow playoff contenders. It wouldn't be such a bad thing if Sheff Utd beat all their playoff rivals, it may consolidate their place in the top six but at least it stops the rest from picking up 3 points.

From Derby's perspective, three wins from the last seven and we're surely there. I'd take having it in our hands and needing three points at home to an already relegated Barnsley on the final day to claim our spot and such a scenario is totally realistic.

As a possible worst case scenario, I can see Boro getting 11 points, Bristol City 8 points, Millwall 11 points, Sheff Utd 11 points, Preston 10 points, Brentford 14 points. Three wins would guarantee our spot. I can't see two other teams reaching 74 considering they all have to play each other.

So that leaves it with

Boro 74

Millwall 73

Sheff Utd 73

Brentford 72

Bristol City 70

Preston 70

We are draw specialists tho. So three wins out of 7 games is a tough one when we have only one win in nine games. Two wins and three draws maybe but that would require us to only lose tow more ... when we have Boro, Wolves, Villa and Cardiff still to play.

If we're to make it, we can't afford to not get the three points against Bolton and Barnsley. We beat them comfortably enough away from home, there are no excuses to not do it at home.

Then it's one win from the other five. Tough opposition, but I'd be galled if we can't pick up three points from either Cardiff (H), Boro (H), Burton (A).

Hopefully Villa's fate will be sealed by the time we play them too and they play a reserve side.

You say that but we lost at home to Sunderland 4-1 then won the next one away to play off rivals. Its the Derby way.

We shouldn't just assume defeats in these games when our record first time around was W2 D1 L1.

I think Millwall will sneak in over us (Boro).

We have 2 points out of a possible 27 against the top 6 teams in the league (away draws to Fulham and Villa before they both started picking up form).

Against Millwall/Bristol/Sheff Utd/Preston we've only beaten Sheffield and Preston, neither was a game we should've won (2-0 down to Preston at half time and they threw it, Sheffield had a perfectly legitimate equaliser disallowed in the 90th minute). Bristol and Millwall beat us comfortably. We're flat track bullies and only where we are because we have ~£50m of players who don't play as a team but have enough about them to scrape past the bottom teams in the division.

I'd love to see us win at Wembley for once, but if we go up over Villa/Fulham it's a travesty.

I think we can relate to some of that in the past few years.

That Bryson for Cardiff looks like a good player. Gets about the pitch and takes up intelligent positions on the edge of the box.
