Anyone who doesn’t have turkey, stuffing and all the veggies for Christmas dinner is some sort of deviant freak.

Coming from the guy that willingly chose to live in a country with people that voted for Donald Trump, yeah.....best ignore this one ?

A nice Rioja.

Yep a nice choice.  For us this year a champagne to get started Aldi @£11/ very good; a Sancerre either Tesco Finest or Waitrose; Mrs Monty likes Rose so a Minuty from Majestic; to finish a White Port Taylor's Chip Dry the latter already opened and sampled and very nice too

Yes, we like a good dry white Port.

Recently got a taste for Sainsburys Cremant de Loire, usually £11 but often reduced to £9. Or better still, on their 'Buy 6, 25% off' deals. It's a really good, cheap alternative to Champers.

Mrs P is slightly unusual (keeps head down) in that she prefers a red to a white (except with fish), and isn't into the pink stuff.

If you're into decent wine, have you considered buying 'en Primeur'. Apologies if you know all this, but basically you contract to buy the wine whilst it's still in the barrel, then when it's bottled (usually a year later) you pay the Duty (currently about £2.30 a bottle irrespective of whether the bottle cost £10 or £1000) plus VAT then collect or have it delivered.

This way you really get some bargains and if you're so inclined, can invest in some real good stuff, keep half and sell half at a profit. Probably missed the boat this year but if you're interested visit Avery's site and go to Fine Wines.

Chin chin, old boy!
