Every non-televised EFL game will be shown outside the UK on a subscription service from next season

The English Football League is to provide live streaming of every non-televised game to overseas supporters from the 2017-18 season onwards.

Fans in the UK are currently limited to audio commentary by rights issues, but Championship, League One and Two matches will be available to watch abroad from August.

The digital platform, called iFollow, will cost £110 for full access.

Currently, 61 of 72 EFL clubs have signed up to the EFL Digital platform.

However, the EFL says that 11 clubs still have the provision to offer the streaming through their own digital providers including Aston Villa, Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers and Accrington Stanley.

Streaming packages in other sports have given fans the opportunity to follow their teams from afar, particularly in the United States.

The North American-based National Football League, National Hockey League and National Basketball League governing bodies have web-based streaming packages, while in Australia, rugby league and Australian Rules followers can subscribe to NRL and AFL streaming.

"The new iFollow platform represents a potentially significant new revenue stream for clubs," EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said. "While enabling enhanced engagement with existing fans now living abroad.

"iFollow will also present the EFL with an important opportunity to stimulate the interest of new groups of supporters who follow our clubs overseas, which in turn will help support the growth of our competitions on the international stage."

Wonder if this has been pushed by Mel? After all he was leading the clubs in finding out the details of the current SKY deal.

Possibly although not all clubs have signed up to it, wouldn't be surprised if we're one with us pulling out of Rams Player.

Outside the UK is a start.

Maybe just a way to trial it and bring in a more expensive pass for inside the UK at a later date.

The NFL Game Pass is location based and blacks out games that are in SKY if you are in the U.K. They could do similar with football matches so Sky don't lose customers.

Streaming of all matches to overseas fans was one of the ideas on the table when we all got together for the first website meeting prior to the Norwich home match. The club were talking about it happening and being a service they were looking to offer through the new website so I assume that Derby are going their own way with it.

I think it would be very bad if you set up proxy server location to make it appear you were on a computer/device in an area where these matches could be streamed.

You'd probably never get past the payment with a UK account/card.

It'd almost certainly be illegal.

However, for legitimate usage I think its a big step forward.

So you're on holiday and wouldn't be able to pay for it because you have a UK credit card?

Looks like it will be annual subscription? I think they will be tight with eligibility.

Bloody foreigners, take all of our jobs, now taking all of our football.

Think somebody should inform Theresa May about this initiative, could be a major bargaining tool in Brexit negotiations.

I think there will be a sort of an on-demand channel next year but online only, probably with an app that you can use on your Laptop/TV/iPad/iPhone etc.

On manchester united TV they have a matchday show etc which starts about 2 hours before but when it goes to the game itself it is just radio commentary without any video. At full time they talk about the match and have interviews with players etc and phone-in afterwards. The full 90-min is shown at 11pm/12am.

I imagine that for derby it could be quite similar but probably slightly lower-budget. Would be good if they actually had more than one camera though.
