Haven't given it a huge amount of thought as I'm at work so I'll probably want to change this soon. Also, I wasn't born until '86 so don't remember him playing but I've put Geraint Williams on the bench because I was named after him! Any other "Geraints" knocking around Derby? Any Taribos, Igors or Inigos for that matter?

I agree.

Dave's great midfield days were at Tottenham, and as a centre-back/sweeper, inspirational though he was, he doesn't displace Todd. I may just replace Carlin with McGovern - or I might have him (or Hennessey) on the bench.

Midfield was the area I agonised over, eddie. A class act like Hennessey would have definitely been in my side if he'd played more and not been plagued by that injury. I'm sad that I couldn't find a slot for the much maligned McGovern ,but realised that in Willie and Archie there was plenty of tackling ability, one with pace and the other with nous and great positional sense and the ability to read and dictate a game.On the offensive side, neither were knocked off the ball easily, whatever the size of the opponent.

I never thought that Alan Durban got the plaudits he deserved.A highly intelligent player, with the ability to arrive late for his (many) goals. For all Bruce's thunderous goals (and I readily admit they were exciting to watch),at the end of the day a goal's a goal.

I worried about having 2 diminutive players in midfield, until I remembered Willie soaring above Mike England to thump home a header, and Archie's phenomenal performance as an emergency centre forward (I think v Man City). Not only did he outjump strapping centre halves, but he managed to guide the ball into the path of players making forward runs.I sometimes wonder if this (in context) was the most impressive individual performance I ever saw in a Rams shirt. It just shows what self belief, guts, determination and application can do for you.

"Err,Archie,we're struggling for players up front.I don't suppose you could try playing CF for us?"

"Sure boss,when can I start?"

(Fictional,of course.......but,maybe not).

Kinda get your point, but then Dave MacKay,for instance, had fire in his belly and put in many a thunderous challenge, but always fair (unless genuinely mis-timed).Having watched Rioch for Luton,Villa and Derby,it seemed to me that some were premeditated. They were often well over the ball.

These threads are always really interesting ... I've donethousands and it changes literally every single time!

Anyway ... here goes ... forgive me if my spacing is a bit dodgy ... you get the idea though ... slight concerns about the soidity of the side with both Kinky and Ace in there ... but so what ... I'm going for broke-(ish) ...

I can always bring Robbie or Oaks into the fray if i need to calm things down a bit. Ciccio is an able match for Kinky if the Georgian isn't quite on the same planet as the rest of us on any given afternoon, Laursen is Mr Dependable as a full back or centre half as required, and Goddard/Gabbiadini can fit in up front with ease into any style of play...and by the way ... England's most capped ever player isn't a bad understudy for Poom.

Special mention by the way as squad members ... must go to ... West, Moore (for entirely different footballing reasons to Taribo!!), Micky Forsyth, Tin Man Ted, Craig Short, Paul Simpson, and, dare I say it (with fingers thoroughly crossed purely based on potential and that ...) - Georgie Thorne.
