Derby County past unsung Heroes

Peter Daniel

"They also serve who stand and wait" comes to mind when I think of Peter Daniel.

He was a first team regular before Brian Clough arrived and then he played for the reserves for several years. He stuck it out when others would have moved on to another club. When his chance came after Clough left he took it and he was a star for a season.

I don't even think there are players like Peter Daniel anymore. If they are not first team regulars after a few seasons they get rid of them.  Daniel was there before the good times arrived and he was there long after the good times had gone.

Steve Buckley, played 323 games for derby from 77 to 86 which were terrible years of poor management and players coming in and out at a rapid rate, the club just avoided liquidation as well at that time, he was voted twice player of the year but still an unsung hero who was loyal to DCFC through the toughest of times, proper Ram and still turns up to watch them nowdays !!

Martin Taylor, anyone? Understudy to Shilts for a fair few years, took the shirt until he had that horrendous leg break at Southend.

Then after nearly two years out recovering, he came back in '97 until Poom took the shirt.

Unsung, but as good a servant to the club as any of those previously mentioned.
