This story in today's Mirror, (ok, ok, its the Mirror), but, if there's any truth in it whatsoever, then its time to give up on professional football.

It sums up to me everything that's wrong with the modern game................

.

Daniel Sturridge's £15million move to Liverpool is back on – after a shock clause that he wanted written into his contract had threatened to kill the deal.

Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal negotiations between Sturridge and Liverpool stalled while the 23-year-old asked about a written agreement to play through the middle.

Chelsea forward Sturridge explored the possibility of making it official in any deal that he could only play as a centre-forward.

But he has now now accepted a contract stipulating he will play as a centre-forward is not possible and is set to undergo a medical today ahead of completing his January switch.

There has also been a wrangle over agents’ fees and the claims of Sturridge’s entourage to a percentage of any future sell-on windfall.

It means Sturridge will have to take the word of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers that he will be given the chance to impress as a central striker.

Sturridge became unhappy at Chelsea with only being used on the right and sitting on the bench, with Fernando Torres keeping his place up front.

Desperate to try to make sure a similar situation doesn’t develop at Liverpool, Sturridge and his advisors explored the possibility of writing the player’s position into a contract.

Liverpool double- checked the idea with Premier League officials, who said they would be extremely uncomfortable with any such clause.

It is understood the League would not support contracts that question a manager’s autonomy and would be unhappy with a player being able to accuse a club of breach of contract for using them in a different position.

But Liverpool were reluctant to sanction an agreement that guaranteed Sturridge will play through the middle, particularly with Luis Suarez, who scored in yesterday’s 4-0 win over Fulham, in fine form.

He will be working for Liverpool so he should play whatever position they want him to play the way the club wants him to play. If it doesn't suit him just don't pay him and send him to unemployment office like the other workers. If I were Rogers I would say take a hike to him and use that money elsewhere.

Do Liverpool ever learn? $15mill?

Lewandowski cost $4mill

If you want to go abit more expensive.. Higuain cost $12mill

Why do they keep buying British players for massive prices.. Why don't they buy foreign players to help them build for a few years.. Their best players, the ones like Lucas, Skirtel and Agger were all bought for cheap when they were younger..

They're just a not very intelligent team..

In Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Sturridge you could have bought the whole Germany U21 side.. What would represent better value for money?
