Pride park has been shortlisted as a ground for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. I have to say I am very surprised by this.

feckin bone idle some folk..............

The Olympic Stadium and five Premier League football grounds have been confirmed as potential match venues for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Just three of the 17 shortlisted are rugby venues: Gloucester's Kingsholm, the Millennium Stadium and Twickenham.

England's biggest club rugby ground - Leicester Tigers' Welford Road - has not been shortlisted.

The home grounds of Manchester United, Newcastle, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Southampton are all on the shortlist.

The Amex Stadium in Brighton, Bristol City's Ashton Gate, Pride Park in Derby, Coventry's Ricoh Arena, Elland Road in Leeds and Stadium MK in Milton Keynes are also included, as well as Wembley.

The city of Leicester is still represented by the King Power Stadium, which has a capacity of more than 32,000 and tournament organisers believe it has more suitable off-field facilities than Welford Road.

However, in a statement, the Tigers said they were "hugely disappointed" by their omission.

"Welford Road has hosted many, many major occasions over the years, including visits from South Africa, Australia and Argentina national teams in recent seasons. It is home to the best-supported and most successful club in the history of the professional game in this country and, as such, we believe is worthy of Rugby World Cup status," chairman Peter Tom said.

"That the organisers of RWC2015 do not think this an appropriate venue for its fixtures is disappointing and confusing both for the professional club game in this country and for its supporters."

The final list of 10 to 12 venues will be finalised early in 2013 after the tournament match schedule has been formulated. The pool draw is being held on 3 December in London.

The tournament's organisers, England Rugby 2015, must sell 2.9 million tickets to cover the £80m guarantee owed to the International Rugby Board.

Andy Cosslett, ER2015 chairman, said: "We are confident that, with the venues selected, we will be able to reach our target of having up to 2.9 million tickets available - opening up the tournament to more people than ever before and in turn delivering the biggest and best Rugby World Cup there has ever been."

Probably going to get shot down for this but I'd tell the International Rugby Board to do one for the simple reason I don't remember them being obliging when Wembley was being rebuilt, they didn't appear too keen on allowing Twickenham to be used for Internationals/Cup Finals yet football stadia are suitable for them when the need arises.

but the clubs will want the money/exposure.

if it's on offer - we're in.

Wasn't it a criteria by the local council regarding planning permission that it can only be used for Rugby?

Well they are going to be in bother some time soon coz my Mrs and my lad went to see Lady Gaga there about 2 weeks ago.

Hey, I'm only posting my opinion I'm not saying it's right. If people want it held at the ground it's all good with me, I just don't agree with it that's all. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I agree with not being to bothered about it being at PP, I want the pitch to stay nice. Re; Lady Gaga I wouldn't necessarily like to get in a scrum with her but she is a good entertainer 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Not that I care, but choosing the King Prawn stadium over Welford Rd? No wonder the Tigers are peed off, that's a real snub.

Anyway, I'm not interested in rugby really but would probably catch a game if it was at PPS.

Make a nice change to have an atmosphere there as well.

Just imagining Derby fans at a Rugby match. There'd still be universal groans every time the ball is passed backwards.

I'm not sure about this. I'd find it pretty hard to take if another sport came to our home and made a better atmosphere.

Not that surprising considering:

1) Our new CEO is a former rugby player and,

2) The club looks at any way to improve our reputation/finances/networking.

I'd certainly go and watch a home nations side play at PP, or go cheer on Tonga for the day, that'd be a laugh atleast.

1st off, Lady gaga is, well...er, gaga. Let's leave that at that. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

2nd. I'd love it if a game of World Cup rugby was held at PP, can't wait to tell Dav in fact, we'd definately go and watch.

Pssst!! Ladyram, I wouldn't tell anyone else but if it was at PP I would definitely go to watch. I went to watch some games in France when the World Cup was there (including Tonga!!!). Never miss a six nations game so long as it doesn't clash with the Rams and can often be heard to be whistling Sweet Chariot 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
