ziggyram59 reacted to RadioactiveWaste in F1 2021
Senna, Mansell and Hill were my childhood heros (and one big villain). I'm also to young for Fangio, Stewart or Clarke, but without robbing a time machine and putting them all together who is better than who is just words.
I'd have Lewis in my top 3, not so much for the mercedes years of dominance, but those first years at McLaren (i mean he had Fernando on toast in his rookie season and many, myself included, rate Fernando as a driver who could have won far more then two titles).
Thinking about comapring across different eras, where does Vettel fit? He won 4 titles but then zip after the regulations changed, lewis won his first title and then didn't get one until the turbo hybrid regs came, dominated, then a change again next season, he may well never get another shot at no8.

Really nice to see Lewis Hamilton receive his knighthood today. Well deserved. I think Lewis deserves to win the BBC Sports Personality Life Time Achievement Award for what he as achieved in Formula1. But knowing the BBC he won't.

RadioactiveWaste not old enough to remember Fangio and Clarke but to me Senna will always be the greatest F1 driver I've seen and in some ways Verstappen as a lot of his qualities. I would put Lewis around 4 in the greatest drivers behind Senna, Schumacher and Fangio.

Cheated out of the European Cup final in 1973, cheated out of the 1975/6 EC as above, and cheated out of the EUFA Cup in 1974/75 by a dodgy handball decision in Mostar.
We've always suffered from bent/crap refs!

Can’t say I’m an F1 expert, I’m a very casual fan but what’s struck me about this is how the money, technology and outrageously detailed coverage involved in sports these days shines such a glaring light on poor officiating.
There needs to be way, way more money invested in training the referees/race directors etc that have so much power over an entire sports reputation, the livelihoods/legacies of athletes and, ultimately, the happiness of so many fans across the globe.
Lewis was clearly robbed and Max’s first championship is clearly tainted; there will always be an asterisk. No one really wins and now everyone will argue about it forever, worst case scenario for the fans and FIA.
Imagine Derby somehow got into a position to stay up this season and it all went to pot on the final day of the season because some unfit, unqualified championship linesman couldn’t keep up with play? Bit too easy to imagine going off what we saw on Saturday (the fat lino, not Derby staying up).
Quality and consistent officiating is part of the “product” as much as the athletes, it’s so boring to spend all of MOTD talking about refs and even more boring to be talking about ducking rule 34.4b of the FIA handbook or whatever’s it is after what was supposed to be the most exciting race in a generation.
Technology can help them but they need to be smart, capable and accountable, not dithering old men who can’t handle the pressure. I’m 100% positive that we will look back on today’s officiating in 20/30 years and shake our heads at how laughable it was.
Also goes without saying that Christian Horner is one of the biggest cockwombles on the planet. How anyone can like that horrible little man is beyond me, if there are any fans of him on here then please try to explain why you like him to me.

Let’s not forget that Hamilton‘s car was disqualified from qualifying in Brazil because the rear wing opened 0.2mm (i.e. a gnat’s testicle) more than it should have - the FIA quoted the regulations and there was no argument to be made against their punishment. Yet they’ve just rewritten far more far-reaching regulations on the fly in order to make the end of the race ‘exciting’. An absolute farce….
It doesn’t matter who is the best driver or who deserves to be Champion - the whole integrity of the sport has been destroyed in one idiotic act from a race director that has shown himself to be either out of his depth or corrupt in his determination to have a different driver win the title….

Sorry RadioactiveWaste totally disagree with you there mate hate him and everyone associated with Red Bull. Feel as sick now as when Zamora scored for QPR in play-off-final after we dominated the game. Lewis did exactly the same today and would have been world champion if it wasn't for that TOOL at Williams. If I was Toto I would take Merc engine of them as punishment. It shows what a arrogant, nasty person Verstappen is that he didn't have the courtesy to credit Hamilton but then again should I be surprised. It's all about him him him. Sorry rant over.

Does anyone feel nervous ahead of today's race? Or are you not bothered and just enjoy the event? I feel nervous because I want Lewis to win so much, as much as I can admire the talent of Verstappen I can't stand him and everything to do with Red Bull, I've even started to dislike Perez and always liked him before.

RadioactiveWaste- Verstappen is Senna and Hamilton is Prost the more cautious of the 2. You could guarantee that Verstappen would do that why Lewis wouldn't it's not his style.

Verstappen is pole, Hamilton second.
Lando Norris takes 3rd - fantastic from him.
Perez, Sainz, Bottas (deciding to have sucky weekend I see), Leclerc, Tsunoda (good effort), Ocon, Danny Ric.
All set up for the climax to the best season in years.
Record breaking 8th title for Lewis, or a first (and defeated mecedes in the turbo hybrid era) title for Max. Can't wait. It's live on Channel 4 if you don't have Sky. 1PM tomorrow for the race start.
Anyone take a bet on a Suzuka '90 first corner? "you no longer go for a gap, you're no longer a racing driver"

Hamilton fastest in P3, Verstappen 2nd. qualifying in an hour.
If F1 seasons were like this every year, would have no problems attracting a new audience.
For all the hate both Hamilton and Verstappen get from all sides, it's the drama between the two that has made this season so entertaining.
Now the FIA have warned they will remove championship points on Sunday if we have any shenanigans, I suspect Bottas and Perez will have a big say somehow on how this Championship will go

Just realized I fat fingered a bit of the first paragraph, but I think you got what I meant.
I just hope it's a good grand Prix. I'm always reluctant to read too much into times in practice, I think qualifying will be close. And whichever way you'd like it to go, both Lewis and Max are breathtaking skilled drivers bringing something at an elite level.
Much as I've always loved Lewis since I saw him in gp2 in 2006, I can understand wanting someone to be able to say they heat LH/Merc in the current era (would've been nice if that were McLaren or Ferrari)
I'd love it if red bull just bungle a strategy call, no issues, no safety car, just Karen Horner calls it wrong and has to sulk about it until next year.
