Plus one or two others like Stoke and Boro who can write of millions of pounds of debt every year. We just don't have that option so our recruitment will by necessity be different to these clubs. It's a challenge for sure.

Some excellent points in the posts above and perfectly illustrates how you can have a different opinion, well-argued, but ultimately not conclude (to a neutral observer at least) that anyone was necessarily right. That's not a cop-out, it may simply be that the issue being discussed is so subjective that there isn't a right or wrong, even though you may feel passionately that there is. Saying that Player X scored 47 league goals for Derby is a fact and may be wrong or right. Saying that during their time at Derby, that you feel that Midfielder Y contributed more than Midfielder Z is an opinion - there may not be a universally accepted answer, and that's fine. Manager B achieved more but had less financial restrictions than Manager C so you feel that C deserves more credit that B, also fine.. opinion.

It seems that the problem arises (and you see this in debates over politics and other subjects that people feel passionate about), that some people seem unable to accept that others have a different and equally valid opinion. You may not agree but when you reach 10 posts and replies arguing a polar opposite position, that maybe, just maybe, you are never going to agree and you move on. That doesn't make the other person a ******* ****, you just don't agree. No need for simmering resentment, name calling and pithy DMs.

My friend group are an odd mix politically in that they cover a wide spectrum, and certainly we have some heated debates but ultimately as mates (and to their credit) we can respect a different take on things even when we have hugely disagreed on a subject. The problem with arguing with complete strangers on a forum is that a bit like road raging against a spec of a figure in a distant car that seemed to cut you up - it is quite an impersonal platform and people can be very defensive or reactionary as a result.

I can accept both arguments that Warne has proved nothing yet as regards his Championship credentials and because he has failures on his CV when he has reached that level previously. I also 100% agree with those who argue that he deserves our full backing while he tests that statement having led us back to the Championship with a hugely welcome and thoroughly enjoyable automatic promotion. Looking forward to it !

Some folks might just like to light a fire under a thread to see what happens, but this game we all love is an emotive subject and people will have strong opinions. Let them.. equally though, you have a right to expect the same back. I don't think that trying to shut down arguments/discussions is particularly healthy but as others have mentioned above, I have never blocked anyone. I may vehemently disagree with you but I respect your right to that opinion.

Stay out of trouble without any real threat of relegation and a suggestion that we might push on the year after. There is so much parachute money floating around that I think the finances are going to dictate a slow and steady approach and we'll have to be patient.

Hmm.. well there you go then. Wolves can feel free to kick off about VAR as much as they like as far as I'm concerned. The rest can shut the hell up and get back to confusion and delay and dubiously justified toenail-length decisions. Yay for VAR.

I think that's spot on. My physio was always saying that it won't necessarily be a linear progression and some days will likely be better than others so don't don't get too disheartened with a less-than-great day - focus on your overall progression. My mood was up and down with the highs and lows of my physical condition and I'm having to learn to smooth that particular graph out a bit.

I think the key is to cherish every effort. If you planned a five mile walk/ run and you only did three, praise yourself for the three, don’t rue the lost two.
At nearly sixty, I find there are some days when everything hurts and my breath feels short. On those days, I reduce my expectations. I slow down. Some bits I walk. Walking is good exercise!
As long as you can do enough to challenge your breathing, you’ll have done some good.
All the best everyone. Keep moving 😊

Just starting the long fightback (again). Have had constant knee issues since COVID as a result of lots of road running and a stumble in a pothole. I'm a bit of a chunky unit these days and an ongoing knee issue from an uneven castle stair a few years back seems to rear its head from time to time. Short version is that I had meniscal tear in left medial and right lateral and associated ligament damage and a bit of arthritis.
I finally got fed up and decided to stump up for a private physio recently and she has helped me rebuild some strength and structure and I am now just starting to do some walks and have just dusted off my bike with view to some lower impact stuff and also because it changes the scenery rather than gym stuff which bores me after a while.
It's all a bit daunting and nothing on the scale of some of the impressive fitness efforts mentioned on here, but hey, it's my particular journey, however limited, and as a guy in his 50s I'm not quite ready to just go quietly into an armchair and crutches yet.
I have had various setbacks as I have tried to battle back but I just have to try rise above it and do what I can. I don't expect anything dramatic but from a guy who was laid up for weeks on more than one occasion and could barely walk down a flight of stairs without a handrail a year ago, I did 2 hour walk along the south west coastal path a few months back. Had a setback again but came back stronger. This time I got back on the horse more quickly and as a result the knee structures seem a bit more resilient so fingers crossed.
Mobility is a precious thing. Fight for it.

All the best 'skip'. Difficult to top that season and will be a much revamped midfield next time out and no guarantee of game time. Sometimes it's just time to seek a fresh challenge and the timing feels right. All the very best in whatever you do next.

"The newspaper reports City are attempting to end the Premier League's Associated Party Transaction (ATP) rules.
Those rules regard commercial and sponsorship deals with companies owned or associated with the same club's owners.
As things stand, those rules dictate such transactions have to be independently assessed to be of fair market value.
The Times reports that City believe the rules are "unlawful" and they want to seek damages for revenue lost by preventions made by those rules."

So, City are arguing that sponsorship deals and therefore cash injections to clubs through that route should have no realistic financial basis or ceiling and should be wholly unregulated ? So they want one of their owners own companies to be able to sponsor say a corner flag for 48 trillion quid ?

They've been "hampered by lost revenue" apparently and are suing... seriously FFS...

Oh, don't worry about that, they're just struggling to remember how many EPL charges they are going to wriggle out of so they thought they'd add a running total to their kit. Apparently it's not permanent marker or anything. Each new city shirt for next year will come with a white pub blackboard marker so fans can update it themselves.

You’re probably right but this latest action feels as if it could be seismically shifting of the game itself, whichever way it goes.
The soul of the game in the sense of relatively equal competition that allowed, for example, us as an East Midland club with a proud and long history to reach the pinnacle of the game in this country and, importantly, stay there for several years, is long gone. Likely never to return. When clubs are owned by countries and extraordinarily wealthy ones at that, with aims of a financial free for all and overturning the status quo, ignoring the rules that don’t suit, then the whole sport had better be wary. Today the PL, tomorrow UEFA, the day after FIFA, or control of their competitions anyway.
If the PL lose then the domination of the wealthy few gets worse and worse; if they win they will not only create the most godforsaken administrative mess as they work out who really won what over the last 10 years (and generate endless other disputes in the process) but they will also have to cede authority in a number of areas to keep the other major players happy; if it’s a PR draw, and all the charges are dropped, then the richest get stronger.
I am so glad I have lived my era, seen my football, seen a game and sport with some reasonable approximation of soul.

Ah, this one again 😉 Aspiration vs expectation. It makes people go all weird this one. Some folks take it as a personal affront if someone else expects a tough old year. It's not a loyalty test 😊
Some fans (a very small number!) would say our aspirations should be the highest and that we should expect to win the league because we all start on the same points yadda yadda, but personally I took the general intent of the question to be something more along the lines 'Being realistic, what do see as a reasonable, achievable goal". Personally I just don't think it is reasonable to set that bar anywhere near the promotion places because we are a newly promoted team with a very limited budget compared to a clutch of the likely challengers, particularly if folks are going to have a strop if we don't get anywhere near that lofty ambition.

I'd be really happy with solid mid-table but I expect us to be bottom half but hopefully keeping a reasonably comfortable distance from that trapdoor and looking to push on next year and maybe have a shy at playoffs the year after.
The manager has to make positive noises, it's expected. As fans of whichever club we're allowed to say "It's going to be a tough old year. Just hope we stay up", but managers don't really have that luxury and need to put a more positive spin on it.
