We are creating good chances from open play. We are opening up defensive, experienced teams and getting one on one chances which at the moment, are going wide, hitting the post or keepers are making great saves, it will come.
If Rooney keeps the confidence level up the goals will come. Once they do, teams have a problem against us because we are capable of breaking quickly.
Morrison is huge in this division, clearly different class, obviously there is no way of knowing if he has finally matured or not but our younger lads seem more confident with him pulling the strings.
There is a lot to be optimistic about as it stands. Your opinion is just as valid as mine or anyone else mate, maybe its just your posting style, but it comes across as if you don't like the optimism and hope we have based on what we've seen so far.

    Ok
    Surely if 4 games isn't a sufficient sample, then 5 isn't either.
Maybe but then we were looking at starting the season with no CBs and only one striker. I'd imagine the sides you've highlighted might have fancied their chances when they saw the fixture list. And how did we get on against the like of Rotherham, and Wycombe last season? Hard to argue there's not modest progress in that regard.
    Literally nobody is!

Ok. My problem was that you were picking holes with events you haven’t even seen. So the rest is for you to find out from people who have. Read them.

But you are the one who quoted me and you are the one saying I am picking holes and being negative.
Surely it’s not too much trouble to offer some examples of these positive differences that you have noticed?

If you think I am picking holes or being particularly negative, that’s your perception.
I am not trying to manage anyone’s expectations. I am just giving my opinion. If you don’t agree, that’s fair enough.
Out of interest, what positive differences have you noticed over the past five games?

Time will tell. Of course I really hope it comes together for us and we have a positive season with plenty of encouragement. I’d love to come back in 15-20 games and say to you I see where you were coming from.
For me, the worry is Rooney and that is possibly why I am more doubtful than others. Preferably I’d have a more experienced manager in charge, but I also realise that is extremely unlikely to happen at any point in the short to medium term.
Let’s see how things pan out. As with every manager and group of players we have had, I am more than ready to be won over and give credit where it’s due.
But 4-5 games can be a deceptive mistress.

If you were able to go to one of the games you might have noticed a difference. Some of us are lucky enough to have done so. You’re picking holes in something that you haven’t experienced. You do not have an obligation to post on here and be positive but likewise you do not have a responsibility to manage expectations. Some of us have been around long enough to embrace any positive no matter how little or ephemeral it may prove to be.

I watched the Peterborough game in full and I didn’t see much difference from last season, to be perfectly honest.
I’ve only caught highlights of all other games and there was no hint of it. So indeed perhaps I am missing something.
I’ll be watching the Forest game. Maybe these green shoots and this improved style will become apparent then.
Feeling upbeat is obviously something we would all like to feel, but for me, I need to see more from this team. We could have made more of this start.

Who have we proven wrong though? That’s like saying Coventry, who are in the top 6 after four games, have proven people wrong.
10-15 games from now, the picture and the mood could be completely different, never mind 40 games from now.
I do get that there was a lot of doom and gloom surrounding the club over the summer, but clearly people were writing us off and making such predictions anticipating the harshest transfer embargo and points deduction available.
How else would all these people come to the conclusion that we would be rock bottom when all things being equal, you have the likes of Hull, Blackpool, Peterborough, Huddersfield, Preston and 4-5 others in the mix?
Personally, I think this season is hard to call. There are so many question marks. 10-15 games in, we’ll have a clearer idea of this team’s prospects and whether we are in for a struggle.
You say it’s been a solid start, but I would say it’s in the balance. If we start to put more results together, then absolutely.
I would question whether the football is more enjoyable and that there are indeed green shoots. Four games is such a misleading sample size.
Personally I need to see more from this team.

I've been one of Rooney's biggest critics but I completely agree there are signs this season under Rooney that just weren't there under him last season. We look like we are trying to play football, we look like we have a plan to create space and progress the ball and we've ditched trying to "match" each opponent instead focusing on ourselves.
However I do think the highlighted is a tad disingenious.

It’s too soon to say. The season is four games old and let’s be honest, the spirit of this team hasn’t really been tested.
I could understand posts like this if we had started the season on -6 points and whittled it down.
But as it is, I feel the praise for Rooney and the players is slightly premature. Let’s face it, if we were to lose against Forest, people would suddenly and surely look upon our start to the season much less favourably.
In 10-15 games, let’s see where we are and how we have fared and whether Rooney and the players have stood up to the challenge.
Two home draws and one win from four games is not really a great indicator of that, especially considering we have only faced one team who would be looking up the table instead of down.

If you're going to quote me, then quote me, but at least do it accurately. I can take it.
I didn't say that Rooney had done "an amazing job" : I said that "keeping us up was a notable achievement". I stand by that. The mitigating factors that contributed to the poor end of season run were real, but you choose to ignore them. You seem to think that Rooney has been "abject" but object to Hughton being branded the same, even though he is a far more experienced manager, with an impressive track record, and benefited from taking over a stronger, better-balanced squad at a club with no restraints on transfer activity. I find your reasoning "flawed" to say the least.

He’s a better manager than Rooney already Dazza - his record speaks for itself so far. He has managed 2 clubs without much money ? or and has got both promoted.
No I don’t watch Bolton every game but I do take an interest in Evatts progress and it’s fair to say he is impressing a lot of people with his ability.
Rooney isn’t going anywhere until his contract runs out so it’s a moot point but  if he does go at some point I’d want Evatt here.

You know what my point is Roy can't put it any plainer then that.
Let's give credit where credit is due.
Some of the comments on here are bordering on delusional regards what an amazing job Rooney did last season to keep us up.
But Hughton is likewise doing an abject job at Forest. No balance.

Wendies had a 6 point deduction which does rather put things into greater perspective, we didn't yet we only avoided relegation by the skin of our teeth over a side we had an artificial advantage over.

I wasn't if you read my post. I said it should never have come down to the last game of the season and for another club to bail us out with a 88th minute equaliser.

Think snatching defeat from the jaws of victory would be far more apt.
It was originally always in Rooney's hands to keep us up but after he oversaw that hideous winless streak we ultimately had to rely on Cardiff to bail us out on the last day or we would have gone down. Let's be fair.

The poster above you wrote '... keeping us up was a notable achievement which, I feel, has earned him a bit more respect and patience than he seems to be getting from some fans'.
That to me is complete nonsense. He was lucky as hell to get the job, lucky as hell to stay up, lucky as hell to keep his job.
A win and two draws is an ok start and probably above par considering the circumstances he has faced (and his previous record) but the teams faced haven't been the best. 'Let's see how things go before we get too excited', that seems fair enough to me.
I've been to 3 games so far this season (including pre - season) and the first time I felt there was a massive difference was the Boro game which I wasn't actually at. People saying you have to be there to have an opinion on anything is strange to me. Sometimes watching on TV is a better perspective than one when you are sat behind a goal.

I think Rooney was spectacularly unlucky with both injuries and referees decisions last season. Losing first Davies, then Bielik, and finally Gregory, Mengi and Edmondson (all of whom were starting to make a real impact) undermined the impressive recovery he oversaw after taking sole charge and the run in to the end of the season. Some of the refereeing decisions that cost us points were so appalling that they smacked of a conspiracy. He may have erred by changing tactics and formation too much in the latter part of the season, but if he'd not changed things around during a poor run he'd have been blasted for that too. Of course, many people believe the initial recovery was due solely to Bielik, and the fact that Kazim was finally fit enough to start, but that's far too simplistic. There was good organisation and tactics that played to our strengths, a switch to a more direct style that reduced defensive errors. And ultimately, he was able to create sufficient team spirit to ensure they didn't simply give up at 2-3 down against Wednesday.
After all that happened, keeping us up was a notable achievement which, I feel, has earned him a bit more respect and patience than he seems to be getting from some fans.

You keep saying judge Rooney after 10/15 games. Load of rubbish. If we dont get this Embargo lifted it dont matter whos in charge. We are in big trouble. This squad will get worn down by the Championship. You could put Guardiola in charge and we would still be in trouble. This is not a fair level playing field for Rooney. For you to think it is just smacks you dont like Rooney. simple as that. Or you dont understand the state of the club.
