Derby put him in the shop window and invited the offers so I don’t know how you can say that he’s been poached!

He's not old enough to have left school, he's in his last year.  He hadn't made the decision, that is my point and as I said they wouldn't have let him go if they didn't need the money.  So Derby haven't lost out, they have done what is best for them at this moment in time.

I'm not going to keep going over it, if you think that you know better then fair enough.  At the end of the day he is a 16 year old kid, who was trying to make the best decision about his future, I'm not sure what is so wrong with that and why they couldn't give him the time to make that decision. They needed the money and that's why he's going.

I don’t think £3million is a paltry fee for a 16 year old who hasn’t done anything yet! I’m sure there are add ons aswell based on future performance.

I don't see what all the fuss is here. Our business model is to use the academy, nurture players, and sell them. This is a great example. In fact its a perfect example, as we're getting money for a player who isn't in the first team squad, so it's not like we're losing an important player for our relegation scrap run in.
People saying he's the best 16-year-old in the country means nothing. It's hype. Callum Ball was the best 16-year-old in the country. So was Lee Holmes. So was Mason Bennett. It's all subjective and an unfair tag as players develop at different times. He might be awesome by the time he gets to 18, or he might be average. Fact is we need the money and there's money on offer, so we take it.
Why wouldn't he go to Liverpool? Are people genuinely saying we're a better club or that our youth set up is better than theirs?
It's a great move for the lad and I hope he does very well so we get a big sell-on fee in the future.

They’ve not even allowed parents watch the games so unless he’s a scout he won’t have seen him play really.

Not sure he’d get in our team this season or  next tbh. Think he’ll be ready in two years or so
never seen him play so pure speculation and guesswork on my part,  but that’s not stopped me yet ?

Think you need to take with a pinch of sale anything that Derby say, they’re not known for being truthful. Derby have engineered the tweets and quotes to create a buzz and increase his value. He’s not even done a full season for the U18s so can’t really be judged at a first team level.

It has been a massive PR campaign by the club that has created the situation, they had bit of interest from a couple clubs months ago and have then set out to increase his worth by having him training with the 1st team and putting him in the squad.  The offer of a pro contract was to try to increase his value further. They have got exactly what they wanted which is to make some money out of him like they did with Delap. Not sure why you all seem to think that it is the lads with no loyalty to the club, at the end of the day Derby would sell anyone who will make them money.

The clubs have all the power at this age, he can only go somewhere if they let him, whereas if the club wants to sell him and he doesn’t want to go he hasn’t really got any say in it.

They are entitled to compensation based on the number of years that the player has been at the club and the category of the academy.  Most of the time they will get more than the compensation due as was the case with Liam Delap. Once a player sides at under 9s for an academy then they cannot leave unless the club releases them or another club pays the ompensation.

As and when there's anything to indicate that that is the case, I shall. In the meantime, when Rooney himself openly states he does not want to sell any of our young talents, I'll just assume he's part of the conspiracy in future ?

    Somebody with a sensible view!
He’s not even started his 2year scholar yet so why shouldn’t he want to keep his options open.  The club have offered the contract for their benefit not his. Anyone whose sons have gone through the academy system know how ruthless it is, the clubs are in it as a business.  He’s a 16 year old lad, how many of that age know what their thoughts will be in 2 years time to commit to something now that they’re tied to until they`re 20. Especially at an unstable club, that could be in League 1 next season.

Firstly, we have no idea, despite what some have said on here, what the lad or his parents think or what the have done.
Secondly, the club didn't get him signed up as a scholar for his benefit. They did it for themselves.
Just like every other 16-year-old, he has to assess the options for his future and in that assessment, he and his parents aren't going to consider the feelings of the club or its supporters. Even if they do, one glance at this place would be enough to demonstrate that our feelings are not worth bothering with.
How dare the lad not have the same commitment to his employers as the rest of us have.
Those that have suggested that the parents motives go no further that paying off their own mortgage should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
