Doesn't the U16 season normally finished really early? I'm guessing they normally have exams etc a lot of them

The academies aren’t really bothered about that! Most still have fixtures on but have moved the u16s to the u18s to make up the numbers when the 2nd year scholars have been released if they need to or carry on with u16 fixtures.

No idea, once we get below the under 18s, I have no idea how many separate groupings we have or understand what structures they play in.

There are about 9 u16s but they don’t seem to be getting any u18 game time apart from Riley Maloney and Reece Nicholas. The U16s hardly have any games either so they’re not getting much game time.

OK, so the first team pinch the under 23s, the 23s pick the 18s and the 18s are youngsters.

Good experience for them so long as they don't get roughed up!

Not sure where all the u16s are, only a couple in the u18 squad for that game

Just demonstrating how thin on the ground we are at this level. he seems a bright young prospect, hope we look after him.

BTW, he has signed for Derby, interesting that they are still listing him as  a triallist.

He’s been signed as a scholar and given a 1 year pro apparently. Some of the 2nd year scholars have been released now so the 16s will be getting more chance with the 18s.

Odd. Why would they pay that much, is it similar to Gordon? But u15s must be unable to sign anything?

I don't think any club would pay that. As far as I know none of the U15s have had an England call up, 1 has for Wales. None of them are playing for the 18s, 2 or 3 play up for the 16s sometimes but most academies do that, usually down to numbers rather than anything else.

If a player is good enough, then they wait for the second time that a club comes in for them, because they will. The lad could have stayed here for another 2 seasons and potentially bagged 50+ appearances. He benefits and so do we. £10m to us is a substantial amount of money. To Liverpool it's next to nothing. Wrong decision. This is the second time this has happened in the last year. The club needs to prevent it from happening again.

Then again, they shipped Whiticker out like it was nothing. Our outgoings for as long as I remember have been shambolic. There's only a few exceptions.

Wrong decision for who? Whittaker stayed and signed a pro and Derby shipped him out a year into a 3year contract. Nobody seems to be questioning Derbys loyalty but have been slating a 16year old for having no loyalty ?‍♀️

Gordon signed last week so not sure why its not been announced. Think he’s up there training with them this week.  I’ve not heard anything about the U15s so not sure if that rumour is true.

The meeting with the PL is this afternoon so should be announced later or tomorrow.

It was actually PSV. He moved to this country, and didn't have a team for a couple of years. Failed trial with Leicester before we gave him a chance in 2018.

One of the dads that runs a grass roots team told Derby about him and they went to watch and offered him a trial.

Yep, I get that. Same as when I was younger and played youth football. My query was footymum saying that someone who is 16 going into September would play U16. That’s not the case. If they’re 16 before 1st September, they would usually by going into the U17. Feel like it’s all irrelevant anyway

If you were 16 1st September 2020 you would be an u16 for this season. Sam is definitely an u16

Just to add, someone said he occasionally played for the U16s when he was only 13. Perhaps he is still officially an U15 but he stepped up to the U18s very early?

He's definitely an Under 16.Same age group as Kaide Gordon.

I find it a little difficult to believe that he hasn’t got an agent. The murky world of academy football and under the table offers to children and their families starts well before the age of 16. Transfer values are attached and agents ‘advise’, even those whose chances of making it are slim. Internal politics and favourites exist whilst offers are made to circumnavigate rules about distances from training grounds. Money talks. It is all about commodities and risk for bigger clubs, like Man City for example. What to do for the best must be extremely hard for the children and their families.

    It is very murky!

7 or 8 of the U16 have featured in the U18s matchday squad this season. Sebagabo made his 6th appearance of the season today... he only turned 15 in September!

I think that he would have been 16 in September or he would be in the u15 age group not u16. I think there are only 4 or 5 u16s left after they did the release a few weeks ago, they’ll be bringing trial lists in now to add to the squad, they usually have 8 or 9 scholars each year.
