The French got rid of their monarchy over 200 years ago and yet people still flock to Paris. I'm not against the monarchy by the way but I would like to see it slimmed down and do they really need all those very large houses. How about putting some Ukranians up in one of them? Don't get all whipped up about that last comment it is not meant to be taken very seriously.

Who would have been inconvenienced by matches being played this weekend? Resources were available and preparations had been made. In fact games not going ahead meant fans were inconvenienced and out of pocket in a lot of cases. Clubs were out of pocket, especially with regards to catering preparations and altering travel and accommodation plans. They will also be majorly inconvenienced by having to fit them in at a later date in an already incredibly busy season.
I don't think matches will go ahead next weekend because forces will be unable to provide policing  but clubs and fans will have greater notice - and awareness of this. 
I think there is some confusion here between inconvenience and disrespectfulness and I hope all those who feel that football should have been paused have been personally forgoing all other forms of entertainment and writing to express their disappointment to other sports, the hospitality industry and theatres, TV and concert venues. 
I bet Rick Parry and his mates haven't been doing any such thing! 

What about theatres, pubs, clubs, gigs, businesses, restaurants, supermarkets, doctors, trains, airports?
Wouldn't a better mark of respect been everything shut down one on day, ie the day of the funeral? This piecemeal approach seems pretty meaningless, especially after after years of planning.

Sadly the environmental credentials of fake grass are terrible. The process to make it is energy intensive with materials imported m from places like China adding many road miles. It only has between 7 - 10  years on average before it needs replacing when the old one will go to landfill.What often goes under fake grass is also a problem as it is usually laid over a consolidated base, usually of crushed concrete and often including a plastic based weed membrane. As for wildlife you won't find blackbirds, robins, hedgehogs or bumblebees on fake grass. I firmly believe it is up to each and everyone of us to do everything we can to provide an environment which is supportive to our native wildlife and that includes not using weedkiller! 
 

I forgot to add that many types of fake grass include  substances like lead, cadmium and carcinogenic compounds. 

Have you seen a garden with plastic flowers? Absolutely awful and so sad to see. We report on sightings of butterflies in Derbyshire and the consensus is that this year has been dire for butterflies. Plastic flowers don't help. I wish some people would realise how vital even the smallest piece of earth is  to so many creatures. Insect numbers have declined so much in the last 30 and this has a knock on effect on so many creatures.

House two doors down has been sold and there getting ready to rent it out.. everything in the garden gone and replaced with stones and fake grass that's 3 metres by 3 metres.  It could be mowed in seconds.  I appreciate their may be the very odd occasion where someone's disabled and has no one to do it but that would be rare. family member, neighbour, ability to fund a gardener every couple of weeks to whip over it.  etc.  Sad thing is, I can see a situation where local authority start doing this to save money.  Round may way it's done every few months, butchered and dying as it is.
