I think the one thing that was maybe missing from Saturday was Warne and the staff having their moment with the fans. Thing is I can’t work out whether that’s a good or bad thing either!

I think to me, and I don’t want to go too OTT because I get why, but I just found Warne’s interviews very flat and a bit like he’d separated himself away from it all. Whether the celebrations at the end just gave him the chance to keep away from it all I don’t know, but I hope in some way we as fans can show our appreciation to the management at some point.

I've heard worse. He didn't declare undying love for Preston at least.

Think Nyambe is a good option to have.

Defensively solid can play right back or right centre back and i doubt he's earning a wedge.

Think another centre back and another left wing back is all we require to strengthen for next season.

Defensively he strolled through games at League 1.  Not so much as an attacking option.  He's a championship ready player if played to his strengths.

Trouble is, a lot of the players who are available have been pretty mediocre in the Championship.

It was different when we were assessing how good they might be in League One, but why would we anticipate they would improve in the Championship next season with us?

I think we might go for a few of the better young players in League One, plus a couple of better performers from relegated clubs and some premier league loans.

I’ve seen Lawal mentioned and whilst he would be great, I think Celtic want him back.

Aasgard, Randall and Kane would strengthen the midfield, Mark Harris upfront, with Bacuna and Azeez would be good additions.

He turned us down last year for a slightly better wage after we were well down the road on his signing-i.e here's your shirt. That doesn't scream ambition.  He can enjoy Burton again next season.

Sheff Utd seem to have a lot out of contract, look to be in a bit of a mess

bogle, Lowe and jebbison all be good championship players for them

I'm always wary of signing players from a club that have taken a thumping like they have this season.  It normally takes them at least a season to address the fact their perhaps not as crap on an individual level as the whole suggests.

I'd agree with letting Collins go cus League 1 looks to be his natural level at this stage in his career.  But I'd certainly give Smith another 12 months as he gave some fresh impetuous down the stretch, played some good stuff and it's important to have some senior pros in and around the squad.

Plus I don't think the jump to the Championship is that big.  You look at the table now and with some astute signings I'd fancy our chances against anyone from Brizzle downwards, especially at home.

To be honest I'd keep Collins for a year as we'll need some angry people next season off the bench.  He's the only centre forward i'd renew though.  I'd have kept Gayle instead as he's got great positional sense but he's also made  of worn out elastic bands and his wage is best used elsewhere.

I think Smith will be going,  We'll need a lot more pace in midfield next season.

I'm sure some of you will have shifted your thoughts on to next season now, what is the early thinking towards next season before any arrivals/departures?

Obviously it would be nice to do an Ipswich, however I'm not sure it would be fair on the ownership, staff and players to set the bar that high.

Our promotion back to the Championship was fast tracked somewhat, achieving it in half the time it took Ipswich despite starting with only 4 players on the books.

The idea of being in a Championship relegation battle again isn't one I'm terribly excited by, however it feels like it's a fair and realistic target to have which will ultimately see us survive, before taking the next step.

When you look at the likes of Watford and Sunderland who are currently just 9 points above the bottom 3 going into the final game of the season, that relegation battle is not confined to the bottom 4 or 5, mid table and you're looking over your shoulder into the new year as a mini slump can throw you back in there.

I won't waffle on anymore and say by early target for the club next season is to finish between 14th and 21st.

Anyone feel like the minimum bar of expectation should be much higher?

No.  I'd take 5th from bottom as a starter and rebuild from there.  Not 4th bottom, I've had enough stress

21st will do for me! Seeing how Plymouth smashed League 1 but still aren't safe tells you all you need to know about the strength of the Championship. We need a lot of strengthening but I'm confident in Warne and the team getting it right and keeping us up.

Plymouth did have a lot of loans and then lost their manager to Stoke which won't have helped.  Strangely, I think the loan market will be the best option for stabilisation for us.  Minimal outlay on 4 or 5 loan fees in the forward options without the burden of 3 yr deals will allow us to strengthen in midfield with fees.  We won't be competing for strikers in the 9 million quid bracket on 3 year deals which looks about the price now for a 15 goal a year player at championship level.  I still think we'll be doing well to hold on to Cashin but the fee will be a fair bit larger than it would have been.

Also been advised that Bristol City have had interest in Knight at 8 million but are looking for a bit more and we have a sell on of 15% after original fee, so that would help.  Destination Bournemouth I understand, so we'll see on that one.

    Are you serious??!!

If his agent's done his job he'll have doubled his wages, had something in the contract to allow him to talk to championship clubs should we not get promoted or premier league clubs who match a valuation if we do- we have.  It puts us in a better position regarding a fee i'd imagine.  See what happens.

Not sure that's his ideal.   He's on record as saying he likes pace up top - but he likes pressing players too.   I reckon his ideal would be a Jamie Vardy type - a threat in behind but with an engine too.   I don't deny that a Collins type is more likely what he'll settle for though.

    Nugent it is then

  10. First of all get up, second 2000 people will go on the pitch for 5 or 6 minutes, then they go back and 5 minutes later the players will appear.  It's happened that way since fences went.  Won't be any different tomorrow.  Will we have fireworks like Forest did for staying up over Burton is the real question..

This weeks dragging, it's like Christmas Eve Eve now. Waiting to see what gifts we get Saturday lunchtime.

Let's hope it's not a stocking full of coal courtesy of Darren Fergusons B Team and a smelly old orange disguising itself as a gift, or the playoffs as it's better known.  Perhaps Santa Lang will give us a new bike we secretly hopes been hiding in the shed.  I'm rather 50/50 after that Cheltenham shitshow the other night.

I imagine several people have done it at a playoff final.

In this particular scenario, it seems so far-fetched for Derby to lose by a few goals and Bolton to win by a few.

If Ferguson puts out the same side, one will be plenty.

This relates to the Siemens scandal, from the little I know the main reason these were aquitted is not them being found innocent but the case dragging on (20 years elapsing for the main charges, there was also other stuff such as admission of bribery from the Germans' part and an out-of-court settlement for the bribes)

As far as I know and correct me if I am wrong this guy has been cleared of everything and there is nothing pending or "alleged".

Also you are suggesting the court system may be rigged but ignoring there may be foul political/financial/sporting/media interests on the other side wanting him smeared or gone.

    If we must have playoffs-

Top 2 and bottom 2 swap over- like the olden days.

Team finishing 3rd has to prove that can compete with the team who finished 3rd bottom.

Bearing in mind they would have two weeks at the end of the season to prepare for a one off Wembly game.

Or do away with the playoffs altogether and go 3 up 3 down.

After all its about how you do over a season rather than either 1 or 3 games.

Spoke to a Cov fan earlier who goes home and away. Says O'Hare is their standout player.

Don't think we stand a chance therefore. We're not big enough or splashing the cash to be shipping around for that kind of player yet.

He's out of contract in the June and hasn't signed a new one.  Could well be another club has shown interest in the premier bottom block or parachute payment rich championship , or maybe they haven't and he's open to offers.  How good are we at convincing.  Never thought we'd get Eranio and the like over a new Milan, Munich, Porto or PSG deal.  Or the Croatian captain to play Tranmere when we were 6th from bottom.  That was a different level.

  16. Is Ashley Barnes out of contract ?.  He'd do a good job for a year if so.  Works like a trojan and is worth 10 goals.

Callum O' Hare out of contract.  He was excellent prior to his ACL.  Bit of a risk but if he can find similar form, would be a great player.

I think I would rather there was a breaking the link with "automatic promotion" with the third spot.  So, I would have third bottom from league above join a league with third in this league (to avoid relegation).  The next 4-7 play a round of one off games to join to make the final two (of join main play off).

There be a draw for who plays team from 3rd bottom (of league above) and who plays 3rd from top (of this).  Then a final.

Would create more to play for at the bottom as well as top, as even if relegated you might be able to claw yourself to a chance of survival.  No more games dates.  And less bitterness over finishing third.

    This was how it started.

Watching Life on Mars at the minute, really enjoying it. Ashes to Ashes will be next.

Enjoyed this.  As I recall not so impressed with Ashes to Ashes.  Perhaps because I remember the time, the cultural interest wasn't so engaging.

  19. Can you play the same team on Saturday please because if nothing else it will put the frighteners under Derby. Whilst it’s unlikely Carlisle will do them you just never know in football. We’ve all been there, games we needed to get a result in but the longer it goes the more the pressure increases. A 3-0 win for Wanderers against your reserves and Carlisle pop in a 95th minute winner would go down very well in North Lancashire. ?

Surely the Pboro result is a good thing and they are rested up for the Bolton game, they wont want to lose last game of the season going into the play offs.

He's secured 4th and has no intention of doing anything but playing reserves.  His words.

  21.

Have a look at the Cambridge forum ! Want thd efl  to investigate us for fielding weaker team

That is not going to happen.
Hasn't there been clubs in recent years that have started the season with a bunch of kids (Reading & Derby?). Later in the season their squads were strengthened significantly, but later opponents had no redress for having had to play a team of different strength,.

There may have been a reason for that you dozy bellend.
