It is a clear problem that all our attacking players like to come to the ball, including Kane.
For all Rashford and Sterling’s criticism in years gone by, there was a reason they were selected. They stretched it and were an in-behind threat with pace.

I just don’t see how you can play Saka, Foden and Bellingham in the same team.
It has to be 2 from 3, and then a proper left forward.
It’s harsh, but I think Saka is a better right winger than Foden, I think Bellingham is a better AM than Foden, and I think Gordon is a better LW than Foden.
So by shoehorning Foden into the side, IMO you are weakening the team.
I thought Guehi was England’s best defender. And we were lucky Trippier wasn’t tested more against a quicker winger. If anything, Serbia got in more times down England’s right.

My missus has wanted a weekend in Shrewsbury for ages, bit of history, boat trip on the river etc.
Not my fault if we end up on a pish up with a thousand or two Derby fans is it....?

Wharton is a very progressive passer too. I've not seen that much of him, but from what I've seen I'd be willing to bet he's an England mainstay from the next World Cup onwards.

If he does well here he'll soon be linked to one of the Bristols, probably City, we are their feeder club after all.

    Sorted.
Visited 4 Lidls today and picked up 4 of the Van Steenberge boxes from each, together with loads of the Abbaye de Vauclare Imperial and Ambree 75 cl bottles. Also picked up a few packs of St Feuillien blond, plus a pack of the Crius strong blond and some stuff.
Crius is a new one on me - it's brewed by Van Steenberge for Lidl and has been described as something between Duvel and Westmalle Tripel. Just sipping one now - not at all bad.

I’m not disagreeing because I’m the same myself, but it’s odd that none of us are saying Warne.
Likeable bloke, decent man, first promotion in 17 years… nobodies saying him!
And again, I agree with people, I think more favourably of Our Nige despite him being a bit of a dour p****!

On disagreement, I think the slogan from Wisdom of Crowds works nicely  "Agreement is nice. But disagreement is better. And we mean that."
On Warne, It's great he's took us up but I don't feel he should get that much slack on the rope. This year we need to avoid relegation simple as that. If we're in the bottom 3 after 15-20 games Warne should be gone. We did go up but that was to be expected in the second year. Warne's record makes me quite nervous about his capability at that level I won't lie. But he's got to be given a chance to succeed or fail on his own merits.

I've got no problem at all with people being honest - everyone has an absolute right to their own opinion and a right to vocalise it!
But how you vocalise it is another matter. You don't have to be rude to people just because you can be. It not only makes you look like a bit of a bamford but it lowers the quality and standard of the forum as a whole (be it this literal forum or just the general forum of ideas, public discourse etc)
In fact, I think what ends up happening is that the interesting points some of these posters are making gets just ends up getting completely lost between the snide comments and jibes.
I'm not saying it all needs to be peace and love on here but I think it is a shame that there is an increasing inability to have a civilised debate about pretty much anything without it becoming nasty. I don't see conversations/debates take place like that in the terraces or on the supporters bus, so why online?
(just to clarify, when I say you i don't mean you specifically @Archied)

This is a really well written post and I think probably summarises how a decent chunk of posters feel about the current state of things on here nowadays.
I’m also sorry you feel that way. I think everyone bears the responsibility for that, not just the offenders in question. We should call out this sort of behaviour more often and try and encourage a better quality of dialogue. “Play nice!”
The only point I’d like to add to it is that I really resent the idea that if you don’t like what someone is saying, you should block them.
I have been on this forum for over 10 years and never blocked someone. The whole reason I’m on here is to read and engage with people that I don’t necessarily agree with. Why would anyone want to just sit in an echo chamber and hear their own opinions getting chucked back at them?
But yesterday what was essentially put to me was: “I’m going to be rude to you, if you don’t like it, block me!”
Wouldn’t a better outcome just be that we try and converse with each other a bit more civilly? Then we might actually get somewhere, change someone’s mind, understand someone else’s point of view, and not all get aggy with each other over…football?
Great post again, @May Contain Nuts

What I don’t get with this forum is why some people seem to think that others are not allowed different views, is that not what a forum is all about? If we all had the same opinions would it not be totally boring🤷‍♂️

He's taking the piss, because I made a post about Warne earlier down the thread and then edited it to say can't be bothered. Which I can't because as you point out it's not allowed to have doubts about Warne's ability at Championship level, nor to remember and be concerned by just how abject some of the football was last season.

I definitely won't be assessing our chances this season until the window has shut - agreed.
But a lot of the points you were making seemed to be on assumed potential, and rather optimistically! Some people sit on the other side of the fence. Neither is right or wrong necessarily.
All I'm arguing is that it's not mental to be concerned about how we'll get on under Warne this season, judging by both his record at Championship level and by the quality of the football that was on display last season.

You seem to be suggesting that I'm saying that people are happy with the current state of the squad or that they have 100% faith in Warne at this level. I've said neither. I'm just attempting to justify why people may have the opposite opinion to that. I think that it's more than fair for people to be concerned going into this season, and I certainly don't think the post that @MACKWORTHRAMwas replying to was "mental".
For what it's worth I don't think we can really even begin to predict how we'll do this season until the window has slammed shut. But I don't think we should shoot down people who have concerns, which is definitely happening on this thread and others. As I said previously, Warne's record at this level doesn't fill me with confidence at least, and I personally thought the quality of the football over the course of last season was pretty abject.

I didn't like Warne, I liked Jim Smith, George Burley, Stevie Mac and Lampard (until Wembley).
Warnes football at times was painful to watch, and his tactics at times were lacking.  It was a pretty easy league 1 this year, with the big teams (Reading and Wigan), being written off before a ball was kicked.... BUT, he got the results that mattered so fair play to him and he proved me wrong in getting promotion.  I didn't think we would make the playoffs let alone top 2.
I will back him now though and look forward to seeing how he performs and who he can sign.  He more than deserves his chance now and it will be interesting to see what happens now his hands aren't tied by the EFL.

    Ok you made me laugh.

But if we had missed automatic promotion and lost at Wembley the prevailing view on here would be completely different. My views of PW as a manager are based on his team selection and our performances last season and as a result I fear next season will be tough. I had a much dimmer view of Wayne Rooney you might recall and was in the minority on that one as well. ( I’d much rather Warne than Rooney btw )

This post is a bit contradictory, isn’t it? 350 senior appearances should be a worry? How?
He’s 29, never played below the Championship and had 3 seasons as a fairly regular PL player, albeit for a poor PL side.
For a side coming up from League One, he would be an excellent signing. Experienced at this level without being too old, versatile to cover at least 2 positions that we need to strengthen. If he’s willing to come, it’s a no-brainer for me.

Roy Mac, my old man was mates with a lot of the 70's team and Roy has always been really nice to our family.
Stevie Powell, really decent bloke, again mates with my dad, played with his lad Stevie jr. for the Rams under 16's and he was another top bloke, as was his dad Tommy. Really nice family.
Ken Oxford , bloke was my first ever GK coach, taught me the basics when school and Allestree Juniors couldn't be bothered, took a keen interest in my progression in later years. Worked as a security guard in later life, got attacked once, he fell on the cash box like a GK on the ball and wouldn't let go, top top man.
Roger Davies, when Ken or Eric Steele couldn't play for the ex-Rams team Roger would give me a call as a 17 year old to help out in nets, he was a proper gent and looked after me, always asks if I'm still playing when he sees me. Not so nice to play against with his elbows and stuff mind 😂
Eric Steele, first met him when I was about 12 on one of his coaching courses, then he was the GK Chesterfield brought in when I was there, took an interest in me and took me training with first team keepers at Wolves and Oxford. Broke the news to me very gently and respectfully that I wouldn't get a pro-contract at Chesterfield. After I had a few years doing party drugs and the like and stopped playing football he heard that I was back playing at Mickleover, he invited me round to his house and some harsh words for me and gave me a load of Sondico gloves (same ones Poomy wore) and boots, he had no reason to do that. and shows the mark of the man. as far as I'm concerned. He has got loads of signed gloves for my mums charity, likes of Butland, Allison, Pickford. Still meet up every couple of months for a coffee and a chat, he even has me coaching sometimes! 90% of people in the game have so much time for him, also a Rams legend having been keeper for two promotions and coach for one.

1983. 2 nil down to Newcastle at half time. The rams come out fighting in the second half to make it 2-2. Ball goes out of play and lands in my lap. As an 8 year old at the time, I managed to throw it back over the crowd barrier (second attempt!) to Archie Gemmil. He went on to win a penalty from that and slotted it away to make it 3-2. He signed my shirt after the game.

I suppose I based it on that I'd never heard anybody who had met them say anything other than good stuff. And all of the ones I mentioned, there is a lot of kind stuff under the radar that only gets out when the recipient shares it.
I knew a guy who was a lighting engineer on a bunch of Hollywood movies. He said Robbins always ate with the crew, ever stayed in his trailer as many do and would spend all his downtime talking to the crew and making everybody laugh. I also had a mate meet him in SF (my mate is a local) and he stopped to talk with him for 20 minutes.

Thinking about it, Keanu Reeves is another one who just seems to be a lovely, caring person by all accounts. I think a lack of ego is what I'm getting at.

I have been using Quora for 12+ years, and I love reading about celebrities who do good things and bad things.
I have heard most A-listers slated. And some, seemingly, are utter douches. Although I take the ones that start off with 'It didn't happen to me, but a friend of mine once...."
But, I have never heard a bad word from anybody who has met any of these four people. In fact, not sure I have even heard any 'my mate says he's a knob' stories either, and they are clearly universally loved.

    Paul McCartney
    Barrack Obama
    Tom Hanks
    Robin Williams
It's a pretty US-centric site, so are there any more, other than David Attenborough, about whom you have heard repeated nice things?
Not that I have heard anything good about DA per se that I can think of. But you could have seen him wearing a split Forest/Leeds shirt, Goosestepping up and down the King's Road dripping in cute, newly-slaughtered bunny rabbit blood and hurling racist obscenities, and I'd still want to hug him. So, he's a given.
