CB - Agree that if Clarke or Wisdom gets injured could be a problem. We do have Evans, Forsyth, Bielik, Te Wierik(although he might be leaving), Soloman, could all cover for a bit. So i don't think this is the no.1 target we should be making.
Striker - My opinion this is what we need most right now. CKR looks tired and i don't blame him as he's been heavily involved in nearly every game so far. We have no cover for him as Waghorn is realistically a winger and Marriott is always injured.
CM - Shinnie and Knight have been great but yes maybe they do just lack that killer pass. I guess we only really have Holmes/Bird as cover for them which is a slight worry.
Winger - Honestly don't feel like we need a winger at the moment. Jozwiak looks great and will only get better. Waghorn can do a job too. We also have Lawrence to come back and also Ibe whenever he is deemed fit enough. Sibley has also been playing there lately and he will carry on improving. We still have Whittaker and Holmes if needed too.
Hector - Fairly sure he would only agree to a loan if he knew he was going to be first choice CB. But yeah good championship player.
Hourihane - Can't see it happening. Would be a great signing but why would he want to join a championship relegation battle from Villa?
Johansen - Good player but honestly don't think he's an improvement on Shinnie or Knight. Suppose he would provide cover though.
Gilmour - Yes Frank does absolutely owe us. This won't happen though. Gilmour too good for Championship now and he's not likely to take Bielik's place.
Vydra - Different type of player to CKR so could be an option but every time i see him play now he's always missing chances and his hold up play is very very poor. Not sure I'd want him back.
Gordon - Not sure if he has the physique for Championship football. Ancelotti seems to rate him though so i'd be willing to give it a 6 month loan.

I can't think of any names that fit all of those criteria that might be within our (assumed) very small budget, sad to say.

Not sure if it's been said already but Keinan Davis from Aston Villa has been made available for loan. We wanted to sign him last transfer window but couldn't as Villa had other players out injured. Would give some good competition to Kazim-Richards and has a bit more pace.
    Thoughts?

Does anyone know why CKR doesn't kneel before the game? not seen it mentioned in interviews anywhere. Just curious.

Let's just hope Mac 'advises' the board to put him in charge from now on then we'll see "What would McClaren do with this team?"

It's not what we think he would do, it is what he thinks he would do. According to a recent interview, he has been watching Derby a lot so must have a good idea of the set-up and its current failings. Which is a lot more than Rafa or Eddie Howe when a quick turnaround is essential.

Whether it's McClaren or not, I'd want a manager like McClaren who gives the attacking players freedom. I also think we have players suited to counter-attacking. You can see how dangerous Jozwiak is on the counter with his goal tonight. I don't think Benitez is either of these things which is why I don't want him.

    Agreed.
attacking football is the Derby way. Even if it's a short term deal till the end of the season i would love to see what Mac could do with this squad. At the very least he will not get us relegated which i think is now the objective this year unfortunately.

I know that not everyone is wanting return of the Mac, but you can't deny he would give the players confidence and belief and get the team playing again. It could be this that gives the players a short term boost to get out the relegation zone. With Rooney as assistant maybe this could work, who knows?

I’d see him playing Waghorn up top in that Martin role and playing Rooney in the role Eustace played so well.

It's a hypothetical question, but an interesting one. Steve Mac has enough managerial know how to put out a reasonable team out from the current squad, and get a decent enough points tally between now and January, that would at least stabilise us and prevent us from falling adrift at the bottom of the table. Realistically, that's the best we could expect, who ever comes in.

This team needs a tweak. Just like the team did when Mac took over the first time.
    Current team:

The slight tweak would be the formation. Moving away from 2CDM to 1 allows us to get more bodies forward. It already looks a more attack minded formation. Our players need to be told to play without fear. Cocu far too overly cautious. To the point that when we did go behind the whole clubs midset is that we are never winning this game. Mac's mentality the the complete opposite.
In terms of strengthening the squad, first thing he would do would be to look for a CF. other areas which need looking at is a quality centre mid and centre back if available.

Yeah, but we're not in that era anymore. And in this current one, we haven't. Derby aren't the side playing in Europe anymore, we're bottom of the Championship and we play dull football. Mac and Martin would **still** transform this side. It's the best Derby has been in like 15 years. Maybe more, I can't remember past that.

We were nowhere near as good though, were we? We scraped into 6th, with Mac we blasted our way into 3rd and thrashed half the league in the process. I enjoyed the Lampard season, but it doesn't compare to the McClaren one.

People say ''time to move on'' all the time about Martin and McClaren, but the reason people haven't moved on is simple. We've never brought in a manager that has close to achieved what Mac did, and we've never signed a striker half as competent as Martin in the time he's been here. When we do that, people will move on.

    He had a plan B.
He just didn't play 5 different formations per match with 3 different styles using 25 players per month. Nobody successful compromises their philosophy. They adapt. And we did.
Injuries are what tested Mac's depth. Injuries to key positions he then tried to fill with inadequate replacements.

I’d rather a short term Mac than some panic appointment.
As said,Bielik at CDM out of contract striker.
Mac’s personality would lift the squad, short term.
Enough under performing talent in our squad.
And let’s have Simmo off Bristol please.
