I would imagine none of Jagielka, Baldock or Carroll would want to sign under £4500-a-week. The three we signed have, to our knowledge.

I get that this is a possibility but surely there would be other free agents willing to. Even if they aren’t as good, it is a numbers game to some degree. 2 30-odd-year-old CBs until at least Bielik is back is concerning (although this isn’t news to any of us).

Alan Nixon has suggested we have to have 3 GK's as part of the 23.

If the 23 is actually 3 GK's + 20 outfield players, the signing of Allsop is not as baffling as first thought.

I saw him say this but tried to find the rules, and couldn’t find anything to that end. Even so, last season we had the u23s keeper as third choice. Presumably they’re not playing without a keeper this year and the same could have been done.

  3.                     Allsop

    Ebosele Davies Stearman Forsyth

           Hutchinson Shinnie

        Jozwiak Morrison Sibley

                     Stretton

I believe all of these count as professional players. I think it’s wise to rest where we can given our lack of a squad. Would like to keep Jozwiak in to build up confidence with hopefully a good performance against easier competition, but I think Wayne will go with Lawrence. Horrible to say but going out of the cups early this season wouldn’t be the worst thing, although I’m a strong believer in the momentum that wins can bring.

    My team would be:

                            Allsop

    Byrne  Cashin   Davies   Buchanan

                Thompson Shinnie

    Ebosele    Sibley    Morrison

                   Stretton

This team is by no means weak but preserves some of our first teasers for Peterborough away.

Don't think we'll be able to play kids who aren't "of professional standing" just yet, as Rooney said post match on Sat.

We are an exciting proposition right now because we have something to play for and zero income is zero wages and currently he hasn’t got a job

Mel said that when he signed Huddlestone from Hull he was our first 40k a week player I believe.
This lad was there at roughly the same time and was a key man for them. Not saying he was on the same, could’ve been more or less.
He is currently out of contract but he isn’t just going to take the first thing offered to him. If he and his agent think he can get 7k+ a week (for example), he isn’t going to take 4.5k this early. He can obviously sign at any point as a free agent.
It really isn’t as simple as he’s unemployed now so he’ll take anything.

Have you been to Poland not to mention have you been to England £4,500 per week is a hell of a lot of money especially when your income is zero - not to mention Derby county is one of the biggest clubs in England and bigger I would say than your Hull city WBA that he has played for and that’s not being disrespectful to those clubs

I have been to Poland. Twice actually. God knows what that has to do with anything...

If I recall, he moved to West Brom for around 4 million in a summer where the baggies were spending big, and then were promoted, having joined Premier League Hull for around 6 million a couple of years previous.

4.5k/week is a low wage for a high end championship/low end premier league player, that is a fact, so he'd be taking a cut from his last contract to join. He's older than he was so would be taking a cut anywhere in England, the difference is just how big a cut he would take and whether he'd have better offers elsewhere.

We are not an exciting prospect right now, and I doubt he gives a toss about the "size" of the football club he joins. If someone offers over what we are allowed to offer, he won't be coming here. Hence why I said it was unlikely (not impossible).

  7. Would be hard to say no if we can get what we paid for him, but I'm not sure we can replace him with a free transfer on 5k a week.

I'd like to try with him for another year, clearly a good player in there but just hasn't worked at Derby. Seems to play very narrow for Derby but hugs the touchline for Poland, maybe that explains why we can't get a tune out of him.

People need to realise this isnt a choie of Stearman over Jagielka, a 3rd keeper over a striker etc - it will be we have signed the only free agents willing to accept 4.5k or lower.

There are more than 9 players out of contract in world football. It is not a direct choice like you say, but you have to question the strategy of even looking at a keeper when we should have been working on centre backs and strikers.

What was the point in looking at a load of players if we weren't allowed to offer them the wages they want? It's simply bad management of a football club.
