  1. So is the implication that they are declaring bankruptcy as a way to avoid paying up on this legal liability?
  2. We cannot get promotion playing Kids? Rubbish - this team could get easily promoted from the Derby & District Under 13's league
  3. A very good point. If he asked for, and received assurances that they were not going to have any issues with FFP, before he agreed to take the job then he could well walk, and sue them for negligent misrepresentation and/or fraudulent inducement That would be
  4. I hesitated from saying earlier, as it's a bit of a sweeping generalisation but my experiences of people who work for the council are that they either...ahem...not exactly our brightest and best OR they are consultants brought in on stupid money by the former to fill gaps in the idiot matrix. A recipe for disaster
  5. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67707156
  6. An interesting update if you can bear an hour of him Sounds like he's pushing for a manned flight sooner rather than later. Any volunteers?
  7. Yeah we had a guy who kept telling us we had complied with FFP and had nothing to worry about too...
  8. As if VAR wasn't bad enough - leaving you unable to celebrate a goal properly - now we won't even be able to celebrate their relegation
  9. In an attempt to remove all bias (and it should also be noted that both Labour-controlled and Conservative-controlled have gone bankrupt recently - I asked ChatGPT to summarise the main reasons 😂
  10. Feels like they are openly laughing in our faces with it too COP28 was held in the UAE and the president was Al Jaber - the CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company! COP29 is in Azerbaijan - a country whose main export is oil and the President of the conference this time is Mukhtar Babayev, a former employee of Azerbaijan's national oil company 🙄 These are the people coming up with the roadmap...hmmmm
  11. I recommended Shrinking a couple of pages back - I think that's by the same people that did Ted Lasso. It's not got much sport in it, but it is funny
  12. In the spirit of not starting an argument - i suspect that we both (and probably most on this thread) would agree with the statement that - we won't see that explosion of more sustainable, less polluting, less planet-harming answers until those who control the fossil fuel industry have worked out how to shift their power-base away from fossil fuels and into the "green" solutions We all know that - and that's the really depressing part 😞
  13. Fully agree. But Archie's argument will be - grrr this is just an excuse for BIG CARDBOARD to exploit us poor serfs who quite like the convenience of plastic packaging so what's the point 😂
  14. Could the problem be that the Charlton finance director is a massive Peterborough United fan (Ed Warrick) - wouldn't want us to get an advantage...
  15. Yup - not that there aren't other huge problems in the world, but to try and disassociate them from climate change, as if they aren't all linked is asinine in the extreme. Climate change is at the heart of it all. I'm sure we're already beyond the point where we can limit warming to 1.5, and as such is more about whether we bend or break - and how soon. Yes some of the reporting is alarmist, but then there is an awful lot that we should be alarmed about!
  16. OK - I'll help you out - your views seem to be identical to his. He is Sultan Al Jaber, the head of the state-owned UAE oil company Adnoc. He's also the current president of the United Nations COP28 meeting https://archive.ph/lckEC Get your critical thinking hat on Archie, and dive on in!
  17. Your comments here reminded of someone I heard saying very similar things in the news not long ago They claimed that there was no proveable science which showed reducing fossil fuels would result in a global warming being limited to 1.5 degrees, and that he wanted a sober and mature approach rather than an alarmist one Sounds like your kind of guy right?
  18. Yes - I was trying to simplify the matter down to the basics, that the Houthis are being paid by Iran to cause chaos in the shipping lanes An interesting article here - not saying I agree with all of it, but some good background https://unherd.com/thepost/war-with-iran-would-be-a-grave-error/
  19. After the past few months of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict dominating our news, the US and UK launching direct attacks on Houthi targets seems like noise - but I have a horrible feeling that this is the next level in the escalation of violence/war Houthi are backed by Iran and being paid to disrupt Israeli shipping. If we're directly attacking the foes of Israel for them - then we're well and truly in this war 😔
  20. I think we take your point (and lord knows you've made it enough times), but don't you think that these dire warnings are felt necessary because so many ostrich-people are happy to ignore it (covertly being encouraged by the oil industry to do so)? Too many glibly saying "get on and live life happily - it'll all be alright". You statement that "we can progress to better ways on a planet that always has and always will change and often dramatically but we are also a very adaptable and ingenious species" seems completely at odds to your insistence that we stop worrying about it. Who is going to fix it if we have a world full of people who take the same view as yourself?
  21. Even if it only spikes for a few hours and then continues to trade at around the same price it was previously?
  22. Am I missing something? Yes it had a big spike earlier, but it's already back to what it was 24 hours ago
  23. Interesting to see that Twitter are now planning a feature to "see dissimilar posts" supposedly to allow users to see stuff that “challenges their perspectives . . . improving the quality and balance of information they receive.” Sounds suspiciously like a way to drive more argument...sorry...engagement on the platform. On paper it sounds like an OK idea if you could believe that everyone on Twitter who likes to loudly express their opinions is ever going to change their mind after reading a post that contradicts what they think, and not just pile in for more arguments
