  1. Yes - and Nigel Owen states that within an hour of that approach being made by Roan - CK was telling everyone privately that the funds had been transferred and the job was done You can question that with the benefit of hindsight yes, but it's easy to see why, at the time the head of a Supporters Group would have accepted the invite. CK's MO was very much flattery and trying to make emotional connections with people
  2. The judge actually ruled that the case was a SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) - that's a legal action intended to censor, intimidate, and silence critics by burdening them with the cost of a legal defence until they abandon their criticism or opposition. Not a good look for the "free speech absolutist" Ironically the lawyers he used now risk being de-barred because part of the Bar rules in California are that you don't bring frivolous or malicious cases. Doubly so if Elton wants to try and appeal what was a pretty firm judgement
  3. I thought the jist of the article from those interviewed was that in retrospect they were taken aback by how genuine he seemed, and how they thought it impossible (at the time) to even consider that he wasn't the real deal The bit where someone describes him being at the LIV Pro-am golf thing and he was giving Yasir Al-Rumayyan bear hugs and acting like they were the oldest, bestest friends. Without the benefit of hindsight, if you'd witnessed scenes like that - would you have thought "nah he's probably a fraud"? Taking the fact he nearly destroyed our club out of the equation, you almost have to have a kind of admiration for quite how far he took his fantasist lifestyle and what he got away with. On a par with Anna Sorokin. Would anyone be surprised if they maker a Netflix series out of it?
  4. I'd not heard of it either - drives me mad that so much content can pass you by if you're not careful. This thread is so bloody useful! Good decision on Bloodline by the way. The second two series are basically the main guy trying to cover up what he did and going to more and more daft and unbelievable lengths to do so. I can't even remember the ending beyond that fact it was really unsatisfactory!
  5. People should just read this and stop deluding themselves https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonization_of_Mars
  6. He did the Lemon interview because he wanted to try and expand Twitter into a broadcast video platform. Lemon was fired from CNN for making controversial "unwoke" comments about women, so Musk clearly saw him as prime candidate to entice his anti-woke fanboys Didn't really go as planned 😂
  7. Oh dear - more salty billionaire tears on the way Did anyone see the Don Lemon interview? Fascinating to see his petulant reactions to being asked awkward questions about the current state of Twitter
  8. I'm sure I reviewed this in the thread last year, but I can't immediately find it with the search Honestly - we enjoyed the first series, but it went rapidly downhill, like a lot of these shows do, once they are renewed and realise that "oh bugger we need to actually come up with a plot for another season". I mean, it wasn't awful - it just got a bit too silly. If you're happy to suspend your disbelief and go with it, then you'll be OK. We finished all 3 seasons but by the end we wondered why!
  9. Agreed - to say "we haven't in any way moved forward" is plainly daft. 50 years ago we'd be attaching electrodes to people's heads and zapping them stupid. 100 years ago we'd be doing lobotomies I've had CBT and it really helped me
  10. Whilst that's true, it is and always will be a tiny minority that succeed in gaming the system. Certainly when it comes to claiming long term benefits. I have close friends with disabilities that limit their mobility and ability to work and the hoops they have had to jump through to get PIP payments are unbelievable to the point of being dehumanising. It has actually had an adverse effect on their mental health to even go through it! In terms of those who get signed off work short-term by a GP for mental health issues - regardless of whether they joke about it or not, if they really hate their job so much that they are willing to go to those lengths then you might argue that they have bigger mental health issues than they realise!
  11. Split is nice, and Dubrovnik is stunning (but I'm told that since Game Of Thrones) it's all gone very touristy and expensive Sibenik is a good alternative - much the same vibe but cheaper and far less busy But my absolute favourite place in Croatia is Zadar. They have the most amazing sunsets and you can sit on the sea front atop a wave- powered sea organ that makes this incredible gentle humming noise in time with the waves The videos don't do it justice, as it always sounds a bit distorted, but stick me here at sunset with a frosty karlovacko in my hand and I'll die happy
  12. So disappointing to see the Work & Pensions Secretary Mel Stride saying that the de-stigmatisation of mental health issues has gone “too far” and that we should just consider it the “normal ups and downs of human life” I'm pretty sure that most people who have contributed to this thread have had their mental health struggles and found that it's the de-stigmatisation of mental health issues which has allowed them to open up - and that's a brilliant thing. None of us are alone It disgusts me that we have dinosaurs like this in positions of power who think we should go back to the days of telling people to "just get over it" 😞
  13. Had HRH The Queen been in there before you? https://forums.forteana.org/index.php?threads/the-queen-poo.20878/
  14. On Tuesday at the Fan Forum they had lights on the pitch, which PW referenced and made some comment about them trying to get the grass to grow back. I guess the mad weather has been playing havoc with the pitch and they are struggling to maintain it as a playing surface
  15. Post op, never being able to eat baked beans again was no loss for me. Never really liked them
  16. It's a valid point, but for most collectors, it's a store of value. With the shallow kudos attached of being able to say you own it It's essentially Bitcoin but without the horrible and needless environmental impact of coin mining - and you can actually gaze upon it and perhaps get some aesthetic pleasure from it, rather than just getting wood over some 1s and 0s that you "own"
  17. Yup - our Guy Fawkes mask-wearing pal has made himself look a chump yet again, but at least now we know what jejune means
  18. Most importantly PW has pledged to start the bounce if we get promoted 😁
  19. Ignoring Hourihane as he's already said he is retiring next season apparently - that's 9 players I'm not great at maths but in a 21 man first team squad, I'd probably describe 9 as "less than half" rather than "the vast majority"
  20. 100% - that's really disappointing from Radio Derby. Trying to cause controversy where literally none exists I came away thinking that, for once, there was nothing really controversial said. The only bits even vaguely contentious were Matt Hale saying that they taught the academy players to "cheat" and PW saying that he completely respects the rights of the fans to boo his players off the pitch at full time if you feel that they haven't performed well enough
  21. care to list them? Some - yes, but "vast majority"? really? Behave
  22. Worse than that - he just trotted out the exact same speech he gave twice at the previous forum in september. It's clear he's not going go own it, or admit any culpability - so at this point I'd just give it up. Time to move forward. If we end up in another financial mess under his stewardship there will be a lot of "I told you so's" but I have to say there is a very different air to his comments under DC (frugal and considered) than those he made under MM (cavalier and cocky). And that's hardly a surprise - probably answers the question about "what lessons have you learned" more than his actual (non) answer
  23. There was a good question on "would Paul Warne at the height of his playing days get into the current Derby team?" He gave a good answer, but the subtext was that he likes athletic players, and that he knows whether a player is Championship standard or not (saying he has no idea why he got games in the Championship because he wasn't good enough!) In the context of the later comment about contract renewals and changes - I think we just have to trust that he will make the right choices (within whatever financial restraints he has)
  24. I was there, and it was a flippant short answer "no" - because all of his other answers had been lengthy and light-hearted The context was actually that they don't plan to make any more decisions on contracts until they know what division we are in next season. That the focus is 100% on the seven remaining games The bit added on the tweet about "lots of changes" was not, as I remember it, said in the direct context of answering that question. FWIW I recommend everyone watch the replay tomorrow, but only Warne's bits - the rest was really, really dull
  25. I like the political intent behind a lot of his work, much more than I like his artistic style (stencilled graffiti art is not exactly original)
