I think it’s clear that Clowes isn’t going to invest any new capital to purchase new players in terms of fees. That’s fair enough given what he/the Company invested to save the Club. The business is going to be financed on a straight forward revenue=expenses basis. Sound and safe business practice and understandable given the history etc.

We fans tend to be fickle when the money being spent is not our own (notwithstanding the small amount we inject via a season ticket etc) and the Plan to move up the league(s) is clearly a multi-year one. Once again, fair enough.

The window isn’t closed yet by a long way but it’s clear (bar some ‘rabbit out of the hat’ PW trick) that we are going to struggle to find good strikers (which we badly need ) without the payment of competitive transfer fees. It’s such a shame if that is the case because I think we all know that this year League 1 is in many ways, on the face of it, the ‘weakest’ it’s been for several seasons. That being the case us getting some good strikers in is in my opinion likely to be the deciding factor as to whether we can make a realistic push for promotion- certainly via the auto two spots.

After all the  money that has often been wasted on poor purchases over the last few seasons it is just so ironic that the lack of what would have been regarded as a misery 500k in the past may hinder our promotion chances this year…Yes, full weight also being given to length of contract term/wages adding up to the total aggregate investment in a single player (eg Alfie May). Such is the way of the World I guess..

This isn’t a complaint but just a little realization in my own mind that to build ourselves up to be expecting to automatically challenge for promotion this coming season may be a little optimistic…

I agree with you, bar the last paragraph. No excuses not to be pushing for automatics this season. Even with freebie strikers that have been mentioned.

  2. It’s a weird way of looking at it. The age thing and contract length I mean. We could sign a 34 year old firs year and it’s ok, but not a 30 year old on a 3 year deal, even though he’ll never actually get to an age we would sign someone for?

Id get it with someone that may have had Injury worries previously but not someone that’s been fit for the majority.

Not saying we wanted him or anything but it being down to the length of deal seems ridiculous

Ah yes, I just added that to your original PW pre-season interview thread.

The bit I hadn't quite got was

"I think I'm getting really close to getting one, I would ideally have four strikers (in the squad)..."

So unless Collins leaves it's now '3 better strikers rather than 4 average strikers' ie two more strikers and Collins. I'm just heading over to the Twitching thread now 😄 as there was also another bit where he said

"I'm looking for players between 22 and 32 ideally. There might be the odd goal scorer who's outside of that bracket. That's the only thing. I just want players to come here, who want to be part of something who want to create something and, and they're the ones we're going for.

"So I've just signed really good people. I think really good footballers who give us a really good opportunity to do something and we'll continue to do that as best we can.

"Every club has its limitations. There are players I might be linked to, which are very unlikely because we have to get what we can afford."

    That's Clarke-Harris out then? 😄

Yeah that’s probably referring to Clarke Harris and Ladapo

Do we think we have enough in midfield or will Knight have to be replaced.

There will either be 3 or 4 midfielders required depending on if we play 3421 or 352/3412.

I imagine Hourihane, Bird and Knight will be in and around the deeper 2 positions. So it’s who he feels needs to be in the other spot(s). He could play Bird or Hourihane further forward. But it’s not very mobile with those 3 or defensive

BREAKING NEWS.... no new kit this year, lads have been told to turn up in any white top at home games and got some orange bibs for away games.

Can we make them pink bibs just for fun?

Been told Bradley has until Thursday to make his decision. Personally if it’s a shootout between Flint or Bradley I’m taking Bradley every single day of the week. But I’d also like us to try sign Di’shon Bernard released from Man U

    Agree with this.

I asked in the club shop on Friday and they're expecting the new kit for sale in early August.

Seems a bit odd to miss out on the holiday season, but with the store being ran by Fanatics, I wonder how much the club actually get from shirt sales.

That’s seems a bit bonkers if so

  8. There’s been quite a few forwards rumoured/mentioned. I would imagine we will look to sign a couple of strikers at least.

With that in mind. Which 2 would people want us to bring in?

Why are we a “shower”, if you don’t mind me asking?

In the past then yeah, fair enough. But we’re 1 year into the biggest rebuild we’ve ever faced and a lot of effort is being put into it by Clowes & the boardroom, as well as Warne & the coaching staff. To just dismiss it as a “shower” is pretty disrespectful to all that work so far.

    He’s talking about Bristol

I don't get this whole saying goodbye thing. We're not bothered. He's not bothered. What's the point?

A Fozzy who's been here a decade yeah fair enough, a Knight or Bird who's come through the academy, OK, I get that...

But some fella who barely played for us and jumped in our hour of need, nah, not necessary

I’m bothered, my sons bothered, and I’m sure other Derby fans are bothered. Don't speak for me. He’s the best footballer we had, but sadly his wages was crippling us from mad Mel’s era.

Im sure if he was on £8k-£10k a week he wouldn’t be going anywhere
