  1. I was dreading this match, no Collins, Stevenage in your face thug football. But having watched it in the East stand and also looked at the highlights, some observations I noticed. First thing to mention, was Steve Evans pre-match moan, that playing in front of a 27-28k crowd that the fans might sway the ref. That's his game plan (reverse psychology), trying to get the ref on his teams side. Then throughout the game, he had his subs warming up down the sideline all through the game (most times 3 or more) and they were bickering at the ref in some of his decisions down that line (more Fatboy Evans cheating tactics).

Out of the top 7 teams currently battling it out for some form of promotion, Stevenage have only scored 46 goals and all their chances against us came from throw ins, corners and free kicks. Not a footballing team, not a nice man, I remember him years ago when he was Boston manager calling Nigel Clough's Burton Albion " A pub team".

Don’t disagree but with Waggy and Wash (as Warne likes to call them), nearly ready for game time, it’s likely the next 3-4 weeks most critical, as I expect both those pair will come back and play a bigger part in the games towards the back end of next month and into April.

Daft as it sounds, they probably all could be good for 30 minutes in any game, but expecting 90 minutes might be pushing it until the last few matches.

I would be surprised if Waggy and Wash play a game this month. It was recently revealed that we were in for Harry  Leonard from Blackburn and their manager pulled the plug on the deal in the eleventh hour. That's why we did'nt get any strikers in. But why go for a 20yr old from Blackburn who has scored 3 goals in 22 apps and send Dajaune Brown out on loan, only a couple of years younger with possibly better potential. Warne knew he had Waggy and Wash out and then during the Reading game John-Jules gets injured and with 8 days prior to the window shutting, he should have had a plan B for incoming strikers.

I get the thinking, but how often in football do things actually work out like that?

You will see a team breeze through a challenging run in and another team make hard work of an easier run in, and vice versa.

Sometimes teams produce results true to form, sometimes not. If it was so easy to gauge which games were easy and which were difficult, we’d all be raking it in at the bookies.

Look at the last day of last season. Who would have expected Peterborough to go to Barnsley and win at our expense? February to May always throws up strange results.

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of ‘Bolton have to play X, Y, Z. Advantage us!’ but very often there is no advantage at all.

Barnsley did'nt play at 100% against Peterboro because they were already assured a play-off spot. There is no league games in May this season and Bolton do have a match every Tuesday/Saturday right up to Easter, that will take it's toll on them.

Barnsley play Bolton in midweek soon. It could be that is Bolton and Barnsley’s game in hand.

If Barnsley beat us both, they will have belief they can pip that 2nd automatic spot.

Pompey probably only need another 6 or 7 wins from their remaining 12 games and they will be promoted.

Pompey have 7 games in their remaining 12 against top half teams, Blackpool, Peterboro, Bolton and Lincoln away with Oxford, Barnsley and Derby at home. Bolton have Blackpool, Barnsley, Derby, Stevenage, Bristol and Peterboro away with Oxford and Pompey at home to play from the top half of the table. Barnsley have 7 fixtures against top half teams, Pompey, Stevenage and Blackpool away with Derby, Bolton, Lincoln and Northampton at home.

Even though Peterboro, Oxford and Stevenage are still in the mix, I feel, unless an incredible turn in form they will not be contending for a top 2 spot. But they still have possible play-off spot to grab. Blackpool are only 6 points off the play-off spots and have a very good home record. They still have Bolton, Pompey and Barnsley at home. Games in hand is good, but only if you win them, it's points onboard that matter with only a dozen or so games to go that puts that team in the driving seat.

  5. Interesting remaining fixtures for the current top 7 teams.

PORTSMOUTH 13 to play, 7 against current top half teams(4 away 3 home) and 5 of them 7 games are against the current top 7.

DERBY 14 to play, 8 against current top half teams (4 away 4 home) and 4 of them against the current top 7.

BOLTON 16 to play, 8 against current top half teams (6 away 2 home) and 6 of them against the current top 7.

BARNSLEY 15 to play, 7 against current top half teams (3 away 4 home) and 4 of them against the current top 7.

PETERBOROUGH 15 to play, 8 against current top half teams (3 away 5 home) and 4 of them against the current top 7.

OXFORD 14 to play, 7 against current top half teams (2 away 5 home) and 4 of them against the current top 7.

STEVENAGE 15 to play, 7 against current top half teams (4 away 3 home) and 5 of them against the current top 7.

Other current stats, Bolton have 9 away matches to play with their fixture pile up and are playing every Tuesday/Saturday right up to Easter weekend (could take it's toll with tired and injured players). Peterborough are still involved in the EFL Trophy and still have a postponed game against Portvale to be given a date. Their last 5 matches are also testing with Orient(A), Fleetwood(H), Oxford(A), Bristol(A) and Bolton(H). Stevenage have the worse home record, having only won 6 at home, Plus they have only scored 46 goals so far. Oxford have lost the most (nine) in the top 7 and have been inconsistent. So with current and previous form, remaining matches I'm now going to stick my neck out and state the Rams will finish in the top 2 places and if we can improve our home form with 8 to play at Pride Park we could finish on top.

You've really got a downer on Collins haven't you.

what positive contribution did he have this game?

I was at the match, he did loads of tracking back and chasing down. Never gave their back line including the keeper time on the ball. Create space for others, I think this game saw what he does off the ball that made his team mates lap up the freedom they got. And there was a few fouls on him that the ref never gave that were stonewall bad tackles.

I’ve done the Ship, Turks, Turtle bay, back to the Ship, back to the hotel, espresso martinis, some other random cocktails, back on the beer now. # football away days 😂

I always laugh when in the Turk's Head, it's card payments only and they do a beer called "Cash is King". For those wanting a pint of that beer, you have to go to this pub because it's a brewpub right in the middle of the city centre.

The football is pretty crap to watch and often we're tactically all over the place, which I think Warne is certainly to blame for, but we have a decent shot at the autos with 15 games to go. Cheer up.

That is the only reason to be cheerful. Lets hope Warne doesn't screw up like last season. #COYR

Well, he could do just that. Just like last season after a good unbeaten run playing with 4 at the back, Mr Warne is now tinkering and reverting to 3 at the back. And we all know what happened last season. Listen to MIKE BASSETT ENGLAND MANAGER, it's 4-4-2.

Blackpool’s home “form” is slightly distorted by the fact that they have played one or two more games at home than everyone except Charlton and Exeter.

Their away form is pants, even though they smashed Pompey 4-0 back in November. But regardless of the fact they have played more home games than most teams, they still have only lost 3 at home. Thats only bettered by 3 teams who have only lost 2 home games. They have a say in the promotion race, with Bolton, Barnsley and Pompey to play at home. I personally don't think they will make the play-offs, but whilst they have an outside chance, they could still do damage to other promotion contenders.

Look how often the top 7 play each , Hopefully this is right...

    Pompey (5 matches out of 15 = 33%) -
    Oxford (h)
    Peterborough (a)
    Barnsley (h)
    Rams (h)
    Bolton (a)

    Derby (4 matches out of 16 = 25%)-
    Stevenage (h)
    Barnsley (a)
    Bolton (h)
    Pompey (a)

    Bolton (6 matches out of 18 = 33%) -
    Barnsley (a)
    Oxford (h)
    Rams (a)
    Stevenage (a)
    Pompey (h)
    Peterborough (a)

    Peterborough (4 matches out of 17 = 23.4%)-
    Stevenage (h)
    Portsmouth (h)
    Oxford (a)
    Bolton (h)

    Barnsley (3 matches out of 17 = 18%) -
    Rams (h)
    Bolton (h)
    Pompey (a)

    Stevenage (3 matches out of 18 = 17%)
    Derby (a)
    Peterborough (a)
    Bolton (h)

    Oxford (2 matches out of 16 = 12.5%)
    Pompey (a)
    Bolton (a)

Plenty to take from those stats….

Posh playing their few games mostly at home- but their pitch is crap like ours at the moment so that might not help them…

Bolton lots of games as expected…

Bottom line is that it’s all to play for and there will be many twists and turns….and we MUST beat Bolton at home and certainly not lose away at Pompey…

Looking at the above again I am not sure we want any of our big games to be at home- certainly not the way we are playing right now.

    What u reckon ???

Also to add in the mix of these fixtures are Blackpool (with an outside chance of making a play-off spot), who are surprisingly the team with the best home form. They still have Pompey, Barnsley and Oxford at home, plus still have away games against Bolton, Peterboro and Derby.

No. PW only wants players who will improve the team. Then there's the added complication of the "business plan". I get the impression many are thinking "roll on the summer then we can go out and spend". Problem is that isn't going to happen. Why not? David Clowes has told us that the club will be self sufficient and the financial situation will be sustainable. To me, that means we will spend no more than we have generated in income.

We lost £6.8M in the first 9 months following the exit from administration. Gates are around 690 a game down on average so I'm not expecting the accounts for this season to be suddenly showing a profit. That means, for next season, as with this season, we will have ticket receipts, sponsorship and advertising revenue and that's it. If we're still in L1 then we'll have a similar amount to this season to spend. If we go up I'd expect us to have slightly more. That means we will still be limited on transfer and loan fees and on wages. That will put "proven" players like Clarke-Harris out of our budgetary range. It is unlikely we will see 7 figure buys. What will we see, then? More of the same? Some of it, yes, Apparently PW is now wanting to look abroad which is a good idea.

I'd also be more than happy for PW to start showing some faith in the likes of Fapetu, Robinson, Weston etc. One would hope he gets some pressure to do so as Clowes was determined to retain the Academy's status and ignoring their better prospects goes against what DC appears to want... and he holds the purse strings. Next season, the kids will all be a year older, wiser, bigger and stronger. I say, give them a chance.

I might be wrong, but was'nt some of that £6.8m loss due to paying off some debts. Good post, agree with giving the youth some game time. Don't understand why Warne would keep sticking our young striker Brown on the bench regularly then send him out on loan to a non-league side. Some on here would say, "to improve his development" but the way I see it is different. Playing on loan with Gateshead, who don't have the same facilities as Moor Farm, nor have the same standard of coaches with their club compared with ours. And lastly playing against lower standard teams and with his Gateshead team mates also not being as good could halt his "development".

In all fairness i didnt realise how far down they are but i feel they will have a good end to the season! If jones take over they do have the squad to do it! But i agree it might be too late. But i think they will be close from where they are

Well Charlton still have us to play at Pride Park, plus games against Bolton, Barnsley and Stevenage, so if they do finish with a sprint they can win 3 of those top 6 teams matches and do us a favour.

The trouble is that refs book Derby players at the first opportunity. It is only our opponents who can get away with the dark arts over and over again. What was the card score yesterday? I am sure we beat Charlton on yellow cards as well as goals, yesterday.

They got 2 bookings to our 5, the most stupid booking (by the Ref) was Sibley's, he had to wait to take the throwing when the ref allowed Charlton to make substitutions, then SECONDS later booked him for time wasting ? The Stats for fouls in the match, was 15 by Charlton and 12 by Derby. I know that good and bad decisions by refs normally end up being 50/50 but not what I've seen in this League one.
