DCFC1388 reacted to Caerphilly Ram in Pre season
It’s not irrelevant, never has been, but also it shouldn’t be used as the yard stick for measuring how an entire season will play out when there’s still time to improve and still time to make additions.
As I said earlier, there’s no need for miracles, there is need for hard work and dedication.

Vickers really could have done a lot better with all 3 goals, don't want to bash the guy but really poor, admittedly the defending in front of him not great either

We look stacks better. Got a formation playing lovely football at times through the channels and out wide
yates needs to stick a foot out a couple of those crosses need him to gamble!
Ozoh is a beast
off the ball he is pisitionally excellent and cleans up a lot
on the ball he’s considered and accurate I’m liking him
jackson looks excellent and what an athlete
better!

The Good: Kenzo, Ozoh and Yates all looking pretty sharp. Like what I've seen from them. Ozoh is a bulldozer and Kenzo makes things happen. He's going to be a great player for us. Elder had a shaky start but has grown into the game. NML and Jackson, too. Formation I think is a good one.
The Bad: Cashin and Bradley. Yikes. No surprises really from the latter but the former? What is going on with him? Sloppy. The quality of the final ball, and the passing in general, is still pretty poor. We're giving away way too many fouls again, too. Vickers? I think everyone else has summed it up.

Summary of the half so far, Vickers has looked shaky in general, half committing to coming out for crosses or to close down through balls and ending up in no man’s land. Defensively we don’t look fully at it, Cashin not himself but could be having to play rcb is throwing him a little 🤷🏻♂️. Elder and Wilson pushing high up the pitch to support attacks.
Midfield looks interesting, Ozoh and Adams typically playing as 2 “sitters” with Goudmijn further forward, every now and then Adams has broke forward, Ozoh looks physical and athletic and has covered ground well to snuff out a couple of counters.
Front 3 have looked quite decent, good pace and movement, but still guilty of overplaying or picking the wrong option. We’re still specialist into the pullback to no one in the box and Jackson/NmL both seem keen to lay a goal on for Yates (who’s link up play is better than I’d expected). Jackson’s pace and directness an asset, needs to work on his decision making.
Not brilliant but better than previous games, I can see more of the intent from the lads, signs of some combos building but not quite clicking, Warne and Barker allegedly yelling loads on the touchline when we’re out of position encouraging the press.
That’s my take anyhoo.

Ozoh, Wilson, Elder & Jackson have all looked decent. Yates getting into some decent positions, brill finish from NML & Goudmijn looking good when he is on the ball.

I always felt more comfortable with Wildsmith in goal even if he did have a few rushes of blood to the head. Vickers tends to flap at crosses whereas Wildsmith was decent from them.
Hopefully we get our new keeper in soon, dont mind Vickers as a backup but not forst choice.

There is a danish player (not sure who)
But he isn't one of the four as last I heard we were nowhere near

Blackburn away….
Hit them on the break. Pace up front, solid at the back with Adams and Ozoh holding in midfield. Yates is suspended so stick with a 3-5-2. Then when he comes back and we are home look at 3-4-3 with NML and Jackson/CBT either side.
Vickers
Nyambe Nelson Cashin
Wilson Adams Ozoh Oz/Elder
Kenzo
NML. Jackson

A month left of the transfer window and some people are panicking. Crazy.
If it was 31st August today, I would share your concerns.
Warne has said himself we do not have enough goals in the team, he wants an attacking midfielder/number 10 and a striker.
He has also said these will be likely be loans an when you want decent loans, you have to wait and you have to be patient (evidently people are not)
He said he was hopeful of having players in for Blackburn, but if we don't, we don't. Plenty of time and a big long season. Our team now is good enough to go to Blackburn and win.
If the manager came out and said he was happy with the team and nobody else would be coming in, I would be worried.
But he has said the opposite.
There will be at least 5-6 more in.

That's it exactly, and what many people just didn't get about Chris Martin. I'm not saying bring him back (too late for that one) but we need a younger version.
Collins does a different job, and he'll poach you goals from set pieces, annoy the opposition and run around when we need to close out games, BUT we need a starter who can get the rest of the team running off them so they can score the goals.

I listened to the @Steve Bloomer's Washing podcast at the weekend and they talked to a Palace chap about David Ozho. He described his loan with us as being a “finishing loan” in that the plan is he plays regular games and goes back in the summer ready to be part of their 1st team squad. I think similar with Brown. He’s had a good 6 months at NL level, I think his development would be best served at a top 8 L1 club. Play regularly, hopefully get a few goals and come back next season to fill one of the gaps left by Collins, Washington or Yates.
I get the clamour for him to be involved. But as someone else posted (whoever you are sorry, I can’t remember), if we were signing a striker off the back of a good 6 months in the NL, would we be wanting him as one of our main striking options? We’d probably be saying it’s one for the future, good to have snapped him up, send him on loan to cut his teeth.

DCFC1388 reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in Transfer rumours
How exactly would you have got Brown "up to scratch" last season?
We were going for promotion out of the league and there is no way you can stick an 18 year old academy striker in if he's not ready. Sending him out on loan to play is exactly to get him up to scratch? What more would you like us to have done?
You're talking like we have no money for a striker when Warne has openly said we are after a new striker. The window is just over a month away from closing.

DCFC1388 reacted to IlsonDerby in Transfer rumours
Why? Over the season a goalkeeper will have a greater impact on staying up.
If we keep a clean sheet we only need 1 goal.
Stansfield can come in and score every match but if we’re conceding two a game it means nothing.
Was going to reply just to post the same. What if all it takes to turn NML, CBT, Barkhuizen, Dembele* into 7-10 goal a season attackers is some big unit who can hold the ball up and bring them into play?
Kuqi made Commons, Bueno and Cwyka work beautifully whereas the better player Moore who Clough replaced him with didn’t have the same ability to raise the game of those behind him a

So I have had a look at the free agents market for possible strikers and the below are the ones available...
Tyrese Campbell - 24 - 6ft 0in
Aaron Connelly - 24 - 5ft 8in
Kemar Roofe - 31 - 5ft 10in
Wesley Moraes - 27 - 6ft 3in
Divin Mubama - 19 - 6ft 0in
Lucas Joao - 30 - 6ft 3in
Devante Cole - 29 - 6ft 0in
Scott Hogan - 32- 5ft 10in
Stephen Humphrys - 26 - 6ft 0in
Tyreece John-Jules - 23 - 6ft 0in
Lys Mousset - 28 - 6ft 1in
Sean Maguire - 30 - 5ft 8in
Macauley Bonne - 28- 5ft 10in
Jonathan Kodjia - 34 - 6ft 2in
Kenneth Zahore - 30 - 6ft 2in
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson - 32 - 6ft 2in
Looking at that list I think Wesley Moraes is the most like what we need in the squad plus he is still a decent age. Gone for big money previously & may want a big wage, maybe he is the free agent that was too expensive?
I would be happy with Tyrese Campbell, Divin Mubama or Lys Mousset. I also think Lucas Joao could do a decent job for us.
I havent looked at their scoring records as I think with strikers it can be all about them fitting into the right team & also its about what else they offer other than just goals, CKR for example had a poor scoring record but was massively important to the team.

DCFC1388 reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in Transfer rumours
Clearly the striker market is extremely difficult and you do not get much for your money at all.
£10 million for Will Osula (3 goals in 44 career apps) and £6 million for Jay Stansfield (very good potential, but has had one season in league one and one in the champ)
Those prices are insane and highlight what you can get for your money. Stansfield was one I mentioned at the end of the season as one we should look at, but paying £6 million (not that we would) is outrageous.
I know Warne has said he wants a number 9, I took that to mean he is wanting the conventional 9, target man who holds the ball up and gets on the end of crosses into the box. But he could have meant a poacher in the box, as we do not have one of them either (someone like Taylor at Luton)
So far we have got the deals in that have been relatively straight forward, Jackson and Osborn were frees, Ozoh on loan, Kenzo as Warne said started off as a no too expensive, before it became affordable so the deal got done, Adams was always going to happen, probably ended up being a lot more complicated than we anticipated, Yates a pretty straight forward loan.
There is probably around 5-6 more to come in and these are the ones we need to be patient for. Some will probably be prem loans, some maybe from abroad.
I think we will get in the players we need and if we have to wait till the end of the month then fine. They will be in.
If the striker ends up being Smith so be it. He is different to what we have, a big strong target man. Not my first choice, but I would get behind the bloke.
I honestly cannot think of any strikers out there that we could bring in really. But I am sure we have our targets.

DCFC1388 reacted to Terry Hennessy in Transfer rumours
Why don't we just let the Manager get on with it instead of being critical of his every move.
Since we last had any kind of success we've had something like 17 managers who have achieved f all...except all adding to the Financial demise we found ourselves a couple of years ago.
So we have a manager now who seems to know what he's doing yet there are some on here advocating sacking him at Christmas if we're not "successful "...please, just give the bloke a chance eh...
