With regards to some of the comments about Ozoh, whilst I agree that he has been caught out a few times he has also shown some really good glimpses of what he does & can offer.
We also need to remember he has only just turned 19 & Friday was his first ever league start so it will take a few games for him to get used to the pace of the game as well as the fitness to last all game.

10 shots, 2 on target vs their 2 shots, 1 on target. Shows we are lacking quality in the final third

Yes. We dominated the game, created a lot more chances and limited them to very few. They're a pretty decent side. We were decent. If you think that was some kind of dreadful performance you're either a WUM or you have poor footballing knowledge frankly.

I assume its on me again to start the next match thread after starting the Chesterfield one & us going on to win.
First league home game of the season, hopefully the win vs Chesterfield will boost morale & confidence within the squad.
12:30pm kick off, hopefully its a nice sunny day too. I do wonder if Zetterstrom will be in the building & maybe even make the bench. I do wonder if Warne might go with a back 3 to bolster our defence but I hope its a back 4 again.

Mike Williamson at MK Dons has a very good record with strikers. Both Langstaff and Max Dean had not done a huge amount before working with him, although Dean was young
If the choice is League 1 strugglers or top end League 2 he’d be better off with the latter. No point sending him somewhere he’ll barely touch the ball

I dont think it would depend on outgoings. 10 left last summer & we have brought 7 in, so another 3 would just get us to the same squad levels as last year but with needing a bigger squad due to a bigger bench i would say the additional 2 to make 12 sounds right. Plus replacements for outgoings.

Big chance for Brown to impress & to show if he can do it vs a League 2 team.
Glad to see Ward & Washington on the bench, hopefully they both grt a chance for some minutes.
No Adams or Fornah, was hoping they would both start

Andrew Moran is set to go back out on loan from Brighton. A good number 10 who had his first loan last year at Blackburn where was used as a winger for the majority but still managed 4 goals and 9 assists in 41 games. Highly regarded by Brighton and Ireland and expected to have a bright future. He was  in the 86th percentile for chances created last year for players in similar leagues in the same position.

1st round of the Caraboa Cup, 7.45pm kick off. Available on Sky Sports+
Warne has confirmed he will make some changes to freshen it up. I would imagine its still too soon for Ward & CBT, to start anyway, and Yates is still suspended.

I suggested Coburn on loan as a striker option and a long people seemed to agree he’d be a good addition. It’s now being reported by Richard Cawley a good London reporter, that Coburn is being looked at by several championship clubs as a loan option. I really hope we’re in for him it also wouldn’t matter too much he’s on loan as we play middlesborough this weekend so he’d only miss one game more.

I agree mate. If we don't bring a striker in then we cannot loan him out, probably why we haven't yet.
I am more than happy to get a loan striker in to cover the gap, so our player can go out and play proper games week in week out and improve.
Then next season he either comes back better and ready to go, or we may feel he needs another loan.
I mean he could on loan to a league one club next season, stink the place out, not score a goal. Then there might not be as much noise about him starting here.

The budget will be set by the Directors. They will have an idea of how much money we will have in income this season. Some of that will go on player and staff wages. Some will go on the upkeep of PP and MF. What's left plus whatever loss DC is prepared to fund is what we have available for transfers.
It cost DC around £55M to buy the club. According to the most recently published annual accounts, DCFC owes Clowes development £36M. That's £91M the club has cost DC so far. At some point, he's going to want that back. That will mean him selling the club for at least that amount, just to break even. It's getting on for 40% of his estimated wealth of £250M, much of which is tied up in land, buildings, plant, machinery and building materials as opposed to liquid assets. How much more do fans expect him to pour into the club?
My opinion is that he's about at the limit to which he will go. He has been consistent in saying the club will be run sustainably and be self sufficient. I find it unreasonable for fans to expect him to keep pouring money into the club.

Because from what I have seen of him he isnt good enough yet to be playing in the Champ, I think he would even struggle top end of League 1. Preseason was his chance to impress & imo he didnt do enough.
We're not in a position to give a 19 year old a chance in the hope he may come good, this season we need to make sure we stay up first & foremost.
Also, putting him in before he is ready could damage him more than help him.

There are two questions being raised on this thread - why aren't we bringing in players with potential resale value and why no proper no. 9?
I think the answer to both questions is money. Strikers are expensive and any available ones are going to have multiple clubs chasing them. It looks like we don't have £10m to spend and the perfect player, so we have to be creative. Overseas markets, Premier League loans, gambles on dodgy fitness signings or lower league players are going to be the way to go. All of these routes are going to take a lot due diligence and negotiations.
As for signing younger players with resale value; in truth it's not compatible with our current position. David Clowes wants to be sustainable, which really means restricted spending. Our first priority has to be players who are almost guaranteed to be good enough to keep us in the division. Ben Osborn type signings were always going to be needed to achieve stability.  Great if we can pick up the odd young, cheap and ready for the first team player like Kenzo, but they're a bonus this season. Generally this type of player will either be expensive or not ready and potentially a waste of money if they don't develop.
I feel resale value will be a far higher priority next year once we have settled Championship squad.
