This post is a bit contradictory, isn’t it? 350 senior appearances should be a worry? How?
He’s 29, never played below the Championship and had 3 seasons as a fairly regular PL player, albeit for a poor PL side.
For a side coming up from League One, he would be an excellent signing. Experienced at this level without being too old, versatile to cover at least 2 positions that we need to strengthen. If he’s willing to come, it’s a no-brainer for me.

No, but I doubt we would have just gone here you go this is our offer.
Probably said to him, look we're happy for you to leave and find another club, probably best for both parties, but we would like to get compensation for you, so we're putting it out we've offered you a new deal.
Fwiw, I think Sibley needs to move on. He's played under a fair few managers here and nobody has picked him consistently. Even in his supposed best position as a number 10, if he ever got to play there, he might have one decent game and then that's it for a while.
I actually think that LWB spot he's found himself in actually suits him and possibly his best position imo.

No he hasn't. All his league goal contributions (6G, 5A) came in 12 game purple patch in the second half of the season. Reminiscent of Nick Blackman.
Osborne has consistent output championship level(266apps, 19G, 33a) and notched 61 prem appearances. Has a high work rate and is positionally versatile. Makes more sense for a smaller squad. Knows and lives in the area, won't take time to settle.

Spot on. He always comes across really well, and with the radio derby reports of a 1 year option in his favour being available, not triggering that just to take the money fits with the impression I've always had of the guy. Good luck to him, I think he'll have a good coaching career ahead of him.

All the best, Conor - right move at this point in his career.
Was a good signing for Derby, experienced head supporting the younger players and much respect for him in the dressing room.
Admire that he knew when he needed to look elsewhere- many don’t.

We’re bidding outbid on wages for a particular player, there is a difference. Warne and club obviously have an idea of what sibley is worth salary wise. Rotherham seemingly value him higher.
sibley isn’t a keep at all costs player is he, is a player we’ve moulded into a wing back but otherwise struggled to force his way into team regularly.

There’s a difference between “being outbid” and choosing to pay up to a certain amount that the club believes the player is worth. Not saying I agree with it, but there’s every chance the club has made what it believes is a fair offer and Sibley feels he’s worth more so is looking elsewhere, rather than that Rotherham are able to pay more than we can.
IF he is leaving it’s a massive shame either way.

Footballinsider and the72. Two of the "news" sites I avoid like the plague. You can add derbycounty dot news to that list and many more.
I am sick to the back teeth of "Derby could go for whoever" or "so and so might be a good fit for Derby". It's all just stuff they either make up or nick from other clickbaiters. There's never a source. It's always could/would/should/might... complete waste of time.

S8TY reacted to Crewton in Lionel Pickering
Big difference between Lionel and Mel is that Lionel didn't bale out - the Co-op Bank stitched him up with a pre-pack deal with a bunch of crooks. Mel walked away despite there being no evidence he was actually skint. Lionel didn't walk away, despite being far less wealthy than Mel.

S8TY reacted to G STAR RAM in Lionel Pickering
Not disingenuous in the slightest, just factual.
He made numerous bad financial decisions which put the club in jeopardy and some that we were still paying for years later.
I'm grateful for the good times he gave but you can't just pretend that he didn't leave us in a mess.
In financial terms he was akin to Mel Morris eventually, the only difference being that we had a period of success on the pitch.

One thing that consistently irritates me is how little fans talk of Lionel Pickering. Folks often talk about the great Jim Smith years (really our last glorious period) but they would never have happened without Lionel.
We also forget that Pride Park was also Lionel’s dream and vision - and he paid a good chunk of his own money to make it happen. In fact one really has to wonder why it wasn’t and isn’t called the Lionel Pickering Stadium.
Lionel in many ways reminds me of David Clowes albeit the latter is a more business-headed person. Lionel was a lovely man- maybe a bit gullible when he listened to everyone throwing their own advice and opinion in his ear at the pub……but a real Rams man.
Crikey, if there was one person who deserves a statue at Pride Park then it’s him.
(I would also like David Clowes to have the Club build a museum at the ground).

S8TY reacted to LeedsCityRam in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
Completely disagree. Firstly matchday revenue is a massive part of finances at this level & size of crowds correlate to overall interest in club, perception of importance & likelihood of TV screening. In the divison above, global awareness is based on history & rivalry far more than you give credit for...its the mystique of Man Utd & Liverpool that entices fans more than simple success. Man City still dont come close to either global brand at present. Going back to DCFC, the average punter will take a far greater passing interest in Derby v Forest or Leeds than say Palace v Brighton and there's no coincidence Derby were one of the most screened Championship clubs on Sky year after year, irrespective of league placing.
Re crowds, Derby average roughly 33%-50% more home fans than Birmingham & Stoke when in same division and have done for a long time. Same with Coventry. Its perverse to therefore claim we are a similiar size. FWIW Stoke are only anywhere because of the largesee of the Bet365 family, pre-ownership they were regularly getting crowds around the 12k mark. In assessing Birmingham, people make the classic big city mistake when reality is Villa dominate that area & Small Heath come in a poor 4th behind West Brom & Wolves...fans of both would laugh at the suggestion Bluee are same size.
Your comparison with European clubs doesnt really work given the total contrast in supporter culture, inequitable TV money share & relative competition in each country. Villarreal are not a big club though & were unheard of pre-1995.
