Tamworthram got a reaction from kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong in The coronabrexit thread. I mean, coronavirus thread
Has the list actually been released or is this just speculation? I guess the thing with public transport is it’s perhaps a little more essential than attending an event.
I can see pro’s and con’s of vaccine passports and it’s a tough one to call. I’m probably just about in favour provided 1) the vaccination roll out continues as fast as possible and 2) it’s only a short term plaster whilst the wound heals.
I think the two strongest arguments are firstly, it must be a good thing financially for venues to open as soon as they can and secondly, just because I can’t go to the cinema for a few months why should I deprive my neighbour? What would I, my neighbour or the venue gain?
I know some will talk about an erosion of civil liberties but I think public health, protecting the NHS and trying to get the economy back on it’s feet trump these civil liberties as we try to recover from a pandemic.
As I say though, I’m only just, not strongly, in favour.

40 million possible hosts, only 3k ICU beds is one risk, the other is the country being overrun again with cases and the virus mutates, vaccine becomes ineffective etc.
My own opinion is that it even without the passports we would be fine, but it seems a "better safe than sorry" approach is being taken.

But surely when that is backed up with a "Forgive me if I’m wrong..." or "Happy to be corrected" type post, it's ok isn't it?
Surely that's worthy of a nice polite "Actually, the facts are..." type riposte? Perhaps capped off with an all-educating factual link? Particularly as this specific topic still remains relatively new and complex the world over?
Otherwise, shall we just lock this thread, as I doubt there's a 100% know-all expert out there, never mind on this forum!

I think we probably do. The point I was making is has the scheme actually been released yet? Is this speculation or a reliable leak?
I agree, there shouldn’t be anything remotely political behind the decision. With regard to “financially driven” I think it’s perfectly valid for the rationale to include helping the economy, protecting businesses and preventing too many going bust - all of which are financial drivers.
Whatever happens, it’s a tough decision, will have its flaws (it’s difficult to see a perfect solution) and will attract criticism.

No. Where did i say that? But if you was Poland manager and you had 3 games in 6 days...and your fixtures were Hungary (a),Andorra (h),England (a) im sure you would have close to your full strength v Hungary and England. Andorra would be where u rest players.

I think it’s just the media trying to whip up a poo storm. I doubt even the EU could be that stupid.

Exactly .. I think it is a case of poo happens and we all live with the results .. the young longer than the old, for sure. But that is hardly something anyone should be in another’s debt for. The old didn’t create Covid and the young throw themselves in front of a virus to protect everyone over 40. No segment got benefit from the other. Everyone just loved their lives with the circumstances that the game or life threw at them. One could talk about generational debt forever .. The 1st war trench generation of youth what debt was that ?

Not everyone over 50 are quite as well off as you seem to be suggesting. Some older people may have lost their jobs and have the worry over keeping up their mortgage payments and paying their other bills. I agree, education is a worry (I am a school governor) and a set back but to suggest younger people can’t now establish a career sounds a little over the top.
Working from home isn’t an option for some people, some older people may have lost well paid jobs that they have taken years to get to, some may fear losing their homes, this list could also go on.
I don’t think you can broadly say any particular age group has suffered more or less than any other. Everyone’s circumstances are different.
Valid point about certain social and economic groups suffering more than others but that’s got nothing to do with age which is where this all started.

No doubt true but many of those in the 50's and 60's have a decade or so in front of them to also live through the pain and, as I said, it's not as if the older have generation have inflicted the virus on the younger people so I don't quite see how they "owe" them.

Just out of interest, how do you think the under 40’s have sacrificed far more than the over 40’s? Genuine question.
OK, they’ve had a year or so of restricted freedom in their relative youth that the older generation enjoyed but, assuming another pandemic doesn’t come around (which it might of course) they’ll enjoy more freedom for a year or so in their middle age than some in that age bracket are now.
For me, those that have sacrificed/suffered the most are those that have lost lives, lost loved ones lost income or lost their jobs. Those areas are not limited to the young.
Don’t get me wrong, I feel sorry for the young but, I also feel sorry for the elderly and vulnerable that haven’t been able to go out. I feel sorry for people of all ages that have not been able to go out, go on holiday, meet family and friends etc etc
I don’t think we owe any age group a debt.

Has there been any change to the plan as a result of potential shortage of vaccines? Also, it’s not as if they’re allowing those that have had the jab back into the wild whilst keeping the young locked up. I know there is talk of vaccine passports but, I don’t think that is imminent and they’re still hoping to offer the jab to all adults by the end of July aren’t they?
As @jonosays, we’re all in this together and there have been sacrifices made in all age groups.
-
Tamworthram reacted to jono in The coronabrexit thread. I mean, coronavirus thread
Can’t agree .. The young are not falling by the wayside in numbers and never have. Everyone has sacrificed something in their different ways. The Young’s sacrifice is no greater or smaller than anyone elses. We are all in it together. Splitting or dividing us in to groups beyond simple physical vulnerability is divisive and helps no one

Saying that I'd let Roos keep the gloves for now but healthy competition is a good thing
