Attendance. It's the League Cup. Opening rounds have seen lower crowds everywhere in recent seasons.
I think the club might have missed a trick though. It's a Derbyshire Derby, They'll be bringing a fair contingency. If the South had also been open, and not just the East, I think we'd have sold more than we have so far.

Yes I agree, obviously the club are looking to keep the cost down, but I am fairly sure some that normally stand in the South stand will not attend.
I would have thought that to open up at least the top half of the South stand would have been cost effective and certainly would have created a better atmosphere, you have to assume the club have done the costings and know what they’re doing 🤔
As it is we will all be crammed into a very busy near sold out stand with lots of people turning up late cos its an evening kickoff and trying to find their seats cos they don’t normally sit there.
With around 1,400 tickets left most of the most popular seats in the centre of the stand are either sold out or single tickets only, with the least popular area of the ground, the 2 blocks nearest the North stand having around 400 seats left.

The budget will be set by the Directors. They will have an idea of how much money we will have in income this season. Some of that will go on player and staff wages. Some will go on the upkeep of PP and MF. What's left plus whatever loss DC is prepared to fund is what we have available for transfers.
It cost DC around £55M to buy the club. According to the most recently published annual accounts, DCFC owes Clowes development £36M. That's £91M the club has cost DC so far. At some point, he's going to want that back. That will mean him selling the club for at least that amount, just to break even. It's getting on for 40% of his estimated wealth of £250M, much of which is tied up in land, buildings, plant, machinery and building materials as opposed to liquid assets. How much more do fans expect him to pour into the club?
My opinion is that he's about at the limit to which he will go. He has been consistent in saying the club will be run sustainably and be self sufficient. I find it unreasonable for fans to expect him to keep pouring money into the club.

Thanks for that. It seems I may have added things in twice. I've seen in various places that he paid around £55M for the club and the stadium. Then, when the most recent accounts came out, there was a £36M loan debt from Clowes Development. I added the two together. Those same accounts also showed an operating loss of £10M. Has DC filled that "black hole" and that needs adding to what he paid for club and ground? That would make it £68M thus far.
Season 2? Reading articles and listening to interviews, I agree with you that there will be another loss. With wages being down from season 1, I'm hoping closer to 5M than 10M.
The revised figures still mean he's put somewhere between 20% and 30% of his reported "worth" into the club and the vast majority of that worth is still not in liquid assets. That's why I am of the opinion that he doesn't have millions more he can subsidise the club with so it's getting towards time we either break even or he sells or we get some outside investment.

Any player is only worth what another club is willing to pay for him. Too much for any player is likely to be more than a club/owner can afford. Most beer drinking fans would happily 4 quid a pint but at what point do you say "too much" and either not drink or cut back? Same with a player, wages and transfer/loan/agent fee will be an amount. The staff will have their say on how much they think a player is worth and why. The bean counters will have their input. The recruitment team will have their say. Top of the tree? Likely to be Pearce and Clowes who read/hear all the input from various sources and then say yay/nay.
Brown? If we sold him for less than £5M most fans would be up in arms. Reverse the situation, would you pay £5M for him? I would hazard a guess most fans wouldn't as he's unproven at this level.
I hope that answers your question without raising too many others

Long gone are the days of having your full squad on day 1 of pre season. Clubs won't sell a player until they themselves have their replacement in house. Clubs/Players/Agents hold out for more money in the hope multiple suitors will spark a bidding war.
It's not as simple as some fans appear to think. As I wrote in another thread. The cost of buying the club and the ground plus the £35M the most recent accounts show we owe Clowes Development means we're already into DC for £91M. That's around 40% of his estimated worth and most of what he has is not in liquid assets. That's about his limit I would think and he has been consistent in saying the club will be run sustainably and be self sufficient. There will come a time, and it's not far away IMO when he has to sell or get inward investment or walk away as he doesn't have the spare cash to keep funding the club to the extent of millions a year.

You just know that will happen and the same for the Swedish gk as I think there is abit of xenophobia around foreign signings.
