We have Rhys Sharpe.

I know very little about him, is he a proper leftback, or a winger who plays there? How old is he this season, and most importantly, is he actually good enough to be considered a series thread for first team action in the coming seasons?

Yeah he's a proper left back, don't know how old he is, I imagine 16-17. and No, I don't think he'll be good enough!

FORMER Newcastle United youngster Michael Hoganson is to sign for Derby County on a one-year deal.

The Rams are also closing in on 18-year-old Swiss defender Valentin Gjokaj.

Hoganson played as a triallist in the friendly against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

The 18-year-old can play left back or left-side of midfield.

He was wanted by Northampton Town after he impressed during two weeks training with the League One club.

They offered him a one-year contract but he decided to try his luck at Derby where he impressed enough to earn himself a deal.

Gjokaj caught the eye in the friendlies against Mansfield Town, Burton Albion and Northampton.

Derby are believed to be close to reaching an agreement with his club, FC Lucerne, and a nominal fee could be involved.

Rams manager Nigel Clough sees Hognason and Gjokaj as two players of potential and good additions, especially as the club will play in the newly-formed under-21 league this season

YAY!! Cracking signing, looked the deal against..Burton Albion.

We can see Tom Naylor as more of a CB now. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I think this lad might end up replacing Mr Gazza Roberts next season.

What is the point of signing him on a one year deal, or is this going to be one of our one year deal with an option for 1 more things we do?

Bet he's just unsure how he'll turn out. Bet we'll give this Swiss lad a one year deal, just because he might not do very well. Bet if they do well though, we'll give em new contracts. Hopefully...

..mind you, every time Roberts gets written off he comes back stronger. His experience will be vital, especially at the start of the season, when the new defence gets used to each other. I haven't seen the friendlies, so will be interested to see who leads the defence, calls the offsides and sets the positioning. I hope Keogh will be that man.

No, I love Roberts, very underrated by a lot of people last season, but seen as we just gave him a one year deal, I can't see him being around for next season as well. So I think this is where this lad comes in, seems a perfect replacement.

Lazy Lazy linker

I thought to be a lazy linker meant I would have only provided a link to the story instead of copying it into the post - as I did neither surely I am just lazy? or lazy, lazy given I did exactly the same in another thread a few minutes ago 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Keogh is that man. He was barking orders out all the time he was on the pitch vs burton and someone said the same vs colchester

Manager Nigel Clough commented: “We’re pleased Michael has decided to join us; he’s a young player who has the potential to improve.

“Primarily, we’re looking for him to be part of the new Under 21 side but he will also provide cover down the left-hand side of the first-team squad.” - http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/rams-snap-up-hoganson-295976.aspx

Looks a tidy footballer, good ground work in the tackle - from what I saw, the bits of his game he needs to improve are very much Gareth Robertos strong points, in terms of reading the game and positioning which are the hardest things to master but he has ability.

He was beaten in the air a few times, because of his size this is going to be a problem - Gareth is also a small full back so could offer something in terms of help in that department (positioning)

Shows how little I know. i didn't think this lad was worth signing. I think I'd have had a better debut against Burton even now and I havent played for 4 years.

God I'm glad I don't do football management for a living.

Welcome to Derby Michael and good luck settling in.
