Kelvin Mellor

Think they will keep this one under wraps for a few days. there would be a riot if the club announced he was te replacement now. The idea doesent make sense that he could be coming in to replace Shackell. He is too raw even to be a regular for Crewe. It would make us look even more of a laughing stock than we do already. PR disaster not what the club is looking for to get themselves out if the hole theyve made for themselves.

Update from Crewe's official web-site ...

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis remains hopeful that Kelvin Mellor will remain patient in his career and re-sign for the club. The young defender is still undecided on extending his stay at Gresty Road, but Davis, who also worked with Mellor at Nantwich Town, is hoping that the local lad will want to continue to progress here at Crewe.

Mellor has recently undergone a small operation to improve movement in his ankle but is expected to be fit during the pre-season as he looks to start the season as he finished it. Injuries to Matt Tootle and Harry Davis in the decisive run-in saw Mellor come on at Hereford in March and not look back.

He completed a dream season with a performance at Wembley and was involved with Tootle in the build-up to Nick Powell's opening goal against Cheltenham.

Although the players have returned to training this week, there have been no further developments in regards to Mellor's contract. Mellor has been a regular at the club's training ground anyway for treatment.

Steve told the club's official web-site: "Kelvin has had a minor operation and we still hope to keep him here.

"He has only just broken into the team and has done very well, but it is early in his career and he has to be patient and prove himself in League One."

I disagree, he is as likely to play for us than he is for Crewe next season - so if I was him, I would take the chance of a longer contract and more money in a higher league. We aren't adverse to playing youngsters either, we had 2 school boys in our side last season. I think for any good young player from the lower leagues, we're an ideal place to come. (i just can't work out if that is a good or bad thing)

That would be the right thing to say if it was a team full of oldies and a manager that doesn't give the young lads a chance, but we do, so he should sign and tell Steve Davis to feck off. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

There is a few players in that Crewe side play off final side that I would of liked to see at Derby, can't remember if this lad was one of them, however, as with any signings we make nowadays no judgement shall be passed until a good set of games for us.

Doesn't sound overally convincing if a league one side haven't broke the bank to keep him though!

Shame the management do not share your position, its up and running from the off with them, or your off.

Derby County have offered Crewe defender Kelvin Mellor a three-year contract, BBC Radio Stoke understands.

The 21-year-old was [url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18325018]offered a deal by the Alex in June but is yet to put pen to paper and the club are now expected to put a fresh deal on the table.

The newly-promoted club are also waiting to hear back from striker Byron Moore and goalkeeper Alan Martin regarding their proposed contracts.

Crewe manager Steve Davis says the deal put to Moore is "the best at the club".

All three players reported back for pre-season training with Crewe on Thursday.

Give it 2 weeks he'll be understudy to Roberts AND Shacks replacement.

"Brayford can slot in at CB too"

Betya

And as we all remember, our left back moxey was played up front, so he's probably being lined up as a replacement for Stevie D as well.
