Was a recent book written about him by the ever excellent Uli-Hesse Lichtenburger that I need to get https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-three-lives-of-the-kaiser/uli-hesse/9781471189104 Beckenbauer, Pele & Bobby Charlton all gone within 12 months - the true Golden Generation. EtoileSportiveDeDerby
RIP, Great player. Won the WC as a player and manager, same as Zagallo who died last week. Deschamp the only one left. LeedsCityRam and RadioactiveWaste

uttoxram75
Another childhood legend gone. Growing up in the 60's and 70's we should have disliked "The Kaiser", yet we loved and respected the best German player of his generation and arguably of all time. RIP Franz, fondly remembered with Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton and Pele. All greats and all gentlemen. GB SPORTS
My best Beckenbauer memory is when Bayern beat the Dirties in European Cup Final in 1975 at the Parc Des Prince in Paris. The scarf twirlers still moan about that game to this very day. StockholmRam
For me… Sir Franz and his team beating Dirty Leeds in the 1975 European Cup final is still my favourite result ever… even better that when we beat Benfica and Real Madrid. I was lucky enough to have seen him play, incredibly for New York Cosmos in Giant Stadium in 1978. Carlos Alberto also played that night but sadly not Pele. Charlie George played too. Opposition.
