We let him go for a fee because Celtic could have signed him for nothing in January and waited til the summer to get him. Why do you think the fee was so low and only Rangers and Celtic came in.

Just like Wilson has at Forest.

Yes but any club could have put in a bid and purchased him.

I thought any club can sign a pre-contract with 6months left, didn't we agree to sign commons and Green march/april time?

Yes, but Celtic could have signed him for nothing on February the 1st....English clubs couldn't. That's why they could effectively name their price. They did it to Forest, but Billy decided to put Wilson in the reserves.

What's so hard to understand?

There's a difference between signing a pre-contract and asking permission from a club to talk to a player and offer a move. Under the pre-contract for moving to a different country clubs permission is not needed.

With Commons and Green there were no pre-contracts signed, we agreed a deal that got signed after the season finished (you can sign players straight after your last game). Up until it being signed there is no official agreement unlike with pre-contract agreements.

We could gave done similar with ALF. Who knows we may gave asked for him on loan and been turned down while they chase promotion but put an unofficial agreement to purchase on January, agreed terms with the player ready to make it official when the season finishes for both us and Rotherham.

So if another Club had put in a higher bid then we could not have accepted it? What is so hard to understand?

But could another club have matched the wages Celtic could offer him in the Summer, and the only two clubs that were interested were Rangers and Celtic. Not quite as straightforward is it.

Well I signed him for 425k, he scored 25 in his first season, 11 in the Prem the next season and this season he's already grabbed 7 goals in 3 games (Back in the Championship).

Alongside Bueno he's deadly.

He had a major dip in form as the season tailed off and got back into the first team in the final few games and scored a couple.

His poor mid season form would probably have put off quiet a few clubs. Still a big gamble to think he could make the jump from Division two up to the championship. He keeps saying he wants to play in the championship, but with the players we are looking at,

not convinced he would fill the missing part of the jigsaw in Clough's attacking line for the coming season.
