Genuine question , not meant to be negative, ignoring food and drink what are the factors that make you buy off line

I buy my drink online (usually). Clothes and shoes, I shop for - I like to try them on to see if they look as ugly on me as they do hanging up or in the window.

Better choice, cheaper prices, delivered to your door without battling for walking space with pushchairs and old folk. Most come with free returns, so if something isn’t quite right you don’t have to deal with a sales assistant busting your balls.

Online shopping is the future. The truth is we will all take cheaper prices and convenience over saving jobs in the retail sector.

Raised this question before. Waste of time. Kids game.

Little Angry spends most of his time returning items. Bar a few things, I can't really see it is cheaper.

Killing the High Street, killling jobs, killing the environment.. Lots of positives?

I buy all clothes from shops - just too much of a pain sending stuff back that's not right.

Other than that, shop purchases are normally impulse buys & I try and do as much of this as posible in local independents. Most planned purchases are online as I can have everything delivered to me at work.

Is it killing the environment?

Customers using cars, public transport, traffic, plastic bags for the missus to collect until the cupboard door doesn't shut and they are all binned.

Or one van delivering keeping hundreds of cars off the road delivering.

Jobs will be moved to warehouses with more being built to keep up with demand, delivery drivers, all better paid jobs than a minimum wage store sales assistant

I buy almost everything online; food, clothes, entertainment - generally nip to Sainsburys to pick up a few items we've forgot or run out of but don't think I've visited another shop this year!

My wife and I own our own business and sell everything through Amazon, eBay and our own website too so if it wasn't for the good ole t'internet our lives would be very different!

So people don't use their cars if they internet shop? People do other things maybe, so i doubt road useage is any less. 'Hundreds of cars off the road'// Hmmm, not so sure  but these cars may or may not be more eco friendly than the increase in vans?

I still get poo loads delivered in plastic bags that are non-recycle.. I could argue that those jobs that move to warehouses are not so good.. Look at Amazon's record on this front.. Better than shop assistants?? Those van drivers, better than shop assistants.. All those Uni students who traditionally fill a lot of those roles, or older people who are winding down.. Van drivers or warehouse assistants, miles from anywhere is a massive warehouse with more KPI's than you can count.

Shopping is a social thing, now we have a bunch of yoofs who never leave their rooms and flick between porn and ASOS.

Well I dunno about anyone else but our car barely leaves the drive these days.

And our main weekly shop is delivered by Sainsburys and we choose the option for it to arrive loose, not bagged.

The environment issue would need deeper research to be honest, cars, traffic, bags only scratch the surface. Inside the shops you have coat hangers, plastic security tags, promotional posters, display units the list goes on. Most of my online orders come in boxes which goes to recycling, ASOS and Amazon occasionally use plastic bags but you get a bag as standard in all high street stores.

I’ve never ever seen shopping as a social thing, now then lads who fancies a trip to town as I want to buy a shirt. Never. I would probably get laughed at for suggesting it. Shopping actually takes away socialising, whilst you’re battling the pushchairs trying to find a new shirt you’re wasting valuable drinking time in the pub.

Day out with the missus? Go for a walk in the country with the dog, bit of fresh air in the lungs. No need to worry about the food shopping, gets delivered on Monday.

Just to throw out a recent online experience, I took back a bike I purchased as it didn’t feel right, reordered another that wasn’t available to order online. Whilst there I was looking for a hydration pack, hot weather, bottles never enough.

I saw a couple, one a cheap nasty looking thing and this Evoc one, looked great but £67.95. No chance.

Looked online whilst I was waiting for the mechanic to discuss the upgrades on the bike, same bag on sale for £49.29, I had another fiver knocked off for signing up to their newsletter so in the end cost just £44.29 with free delivery.

Got home, looked around, Same bag £56.99

Again £63.95

All 3 cheaper than the local shop, saved myself over £20. Believe it or not there isn’t many bike shops around town to drive around.
