Pubs.

Recommended Posts

Thought I’d start a thread different to the ‘Beer Thread’. Not based purely on beer, but more the nice places to drink it, so that I and maybe you can branch out and find some new places to imbibe booze and socialise.

Was hoping for suggestions for the more traditional, the more interesting, the unique, modern with a twist, amazing food (but not a restaurant), great jukebox etc.

Doesnt have to be a hipster micro pub with all the lastest brews (although do include them) but not so much your Marstons chain pub with a ball pit and generic menu of gammon, gammon and gammon.

Mainly for the Derbyshire area, although if it’s a standout place that’s worth a visit wherever you are then go for it.

I’ll start ya off;

The Feather Star in Wirksworth (amazing little pub with vinyl for sale. Great vibe, great tunes.)

The Old Dog Inn in Thorpe (always good beers, food like an American Diner and always playing 70’s Rock, with decor like the Prancing Pony in LOTR)

Artisan in Ashbourne (great beer and gin  selection and a nice chilled vibe)

Dog and Partridge in Marchington (miserable landlord (like all good pubs should) with always good ales and great music on Sunday afternoons with a chilled out vibe)

Thanks.

Bedlam Bar in the Black Bulls Head at Openwoodgate, Belper - Beers straight from the barrel in a converted pig slaughtering shed. Another 8 beers in the pub itself

Dead Poets at Holbrook - Not quite as good as it was but still a cosy pub with a good beer range

Angels at Belper, Micropub on the Market Place, 8 beers and 8 ciders all at £3 a pint no matter the strength,

Over the border into Staffs, but if you haven’t tried the Yew Tree at Cauldon, you really must.

Totally unspoilt, full of crazy mad stuff, hosts a great music festival, and Burton Bridge Bitter is £2.80 a pint.

Heard about this place. Sounds like a winner. Thanks for the reminder.

I’d be interested in people’s recommendations for pubs with nice sunny beer gardens. My current roster includes: The Boat, Cromford; Miners, Carsington; Malt Shovel, Wirksworth; Bear, Alderwasley; White Lion, Starkholmes; Horseshoes, Long Lane; Royal Oak, Wetton.

Looks like the kinda pub you would see an old bloke spend his day away from the missus with a crossword. Not exactly setup for a sociable pint is it?

Usually just three or four, including the Burton, but they have an outside bar and various beer related events, such as the Oktoberfest, featuring a weekend of German beers. If you have a van or don’t mind tenting it, stopping over is encouraged, so you can make the most of it.

There are different rooms, so it’s both those things. It’s kept the character of an old git’s local, whilst being lively and well run. The summer festival is brilliant.

I'm surprised more people don't know about this place. I bet @uttoxram75 knows about it.

The Thorne Tree at Matlock was good a while back. Great views over Matlock but I haven't been for ages.

Yes, it’s still great. I only left it out of my list because it’s more of a view than a garden, and I knew some **** would pick me up on the technicality, but still a fine place to sit on a summer evening.
