The boring Man City discussion

From the BBC:

Manchester City have walked away from a proposed deal for Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez after refusing to sanction a transfer package that would have cost £95m.

City do not view themselves as having made an offer after Leicester City came to them with a proposal that would have also included a player.

Conversations took place to ascertain Leicester's value of Mahraz - a number of which took place - and City's interest pre-dates emergence of their interest in the Algerian interest in 26-year-old Mahrez.

City had previously made it clear that they were not willing to spend, however the package was made up, more than £60m.

The difference in valuation was so big that there was no chance of agreement being reached, leaving City to walk away from the deal.

City were not interested in Mahrez simply because Leroy Sane was ruled out for seven weeks with the injury sustained in Sunday's FA Cup win at Cardiff City.

The club had a long-standing desire to bring in an attacking player next summer. They were obviously interested in Alexis Sanchez before he went to Manchester United but felt that was too expensive and have now reached the same conclusion with Mahrez.

Manchester City arent far off playing Football manager in cheat mode. Unlimited funds.

Just buy the 25 best rated players in world football.

Done!

But it begs the question why other clubs aren't doing it.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and United could easily have bought any of the players City have bought over the past 12 months or so. It's not like they're on massive wages either.

Arsenal for instance would rather pay Ozil £350k per week than have three younger players on a combined fee of that. I mean it's been reported Sane is on £60k per week, Mendy £80k per week, Laporte £80k per week, Bernardo Silva 120k per week. There are four potential world class players earning a figure less than Ozil.

Other salaries include Ederson £65k per week, Gabriel Jesus £70k per week, Stones £100k per week, Walker £100k per week, Gundogan £120k per week... These aren't exactly groundbreaking salaries here.

You're comparing apples with oranges.

Man Citys wage bill is £5m per week.

Just try and let that sink in before telling everyone how well they are spending.

6 subs on the bench today, couldn't stick a youth player on there? Nope? Ok then.

Just read that.

Apparently the youth team were in action yesterday or something.

Usually at Derby we pull youth players out of youth games if we need to bulk up the match squad. Just an idea Pep.

City youth played last night. There is little recovery time from a night game followed by a 12.30pm KO the next day.

Besides, why bother if you aren’t going to use them? You have one GK and five outfield options with only three subs available.

Why put a knackered youth on the bench when they wouldn’t get on anyway.

Why not pull one out of last night, just one player, give them the opportunity of being involved with the first team. Youth team must have had players on the bench, they wouldn't have all come on.

What’s the point if they’re not going to play?

Pep will be furious with his side today. They had so many chances to kill off the game. Should have been 0-4 up before Burnley’s goal.

Sterling is such a donkey.

Experience, hope.

They may not have got on the pitch, but what did they gain from having an empty seat? Nothing.

One youth player today could have been given the experience of being involved with the first team, and hope that they may get a chance when short through injuries.

"Six subs is actually embarrassing. A real kick in the teeth for the academy."

I’m probably in the minority then who doesn’t really see the point of naming a youth team player on the bench who isn’t going to be involved.

Considering they played last night, the only player he could have selected would have beena youth team player who wasn’t involved in the youth game. So basically a reserve youth player.

It's just Guardiola being passive aggressive. 'We are kicked to **** so much by clogging opposition players, that we can't even fill the bench.' Child.

Tbf they're getting their money worth. Great to watch and destroying opponents frequently. Chasing 4 (?) Trophies still?

But not taking a youth player is a dick move imo. Like @AndyinLiverpool said, it's a statement.

It'd be great to travel with the squad. Be part of an elite set up. Be in the team talk. Just take in what you could soon be facing.

And maybe. Maybe you might get pitch time. Could be 8-0 up. Could be a succession of injuries leaving a chance as in a role others don't play.

Basically if you're anywhere near the bench then you would benefit from being a part of the squad.

I'm sure he does care about his youth players. But by showing everyone how fed up of being tackled they are he's sent the wrong message.

Pep Guardiola was accused of disregarding Manchester City's array of young players after naming only six substitutes for their trip to Burnley, with Gary Neville branding the decision a 'joke'.

Probably just his own mardy way of having a pop at the board for not securing Mahrez.

Sterling is such a donkey.

He was relieved not to be beaten in the end - City outplayed Burnley for 70 minutes but ran out of steam after Sterling missed his sitter and the Clarets superior fitness saw them level and finish the match strongly. There is no fitter team in the PL than Burnley - maybe Spurs are equal. Being Dyche-fit has boosted several fading stars' careers - Steven Defour the best example. Defour has been Burnley's best player until a season-ending knee injury forced him to have an op last week. Watch Lennon have a new lease of life under Dyche.

Guardiola also admitted Burnley "maybe the best team in the Premier League at free-kicks and corners."
