Leon Osman.

But he didn't get away because he was never ours in the first place. He was clearly a class act when on loan with us & we would have all loved to have bought him but Everton were never going to get him go. It was a short term arrangement that worked well for all involved.

Yes, yes. But I thought this thread was a bit more 'Christmas list' ... you and your facts, boooh.:) Uncle Mel would have found the dough to get him.

Yakubu was by far the biggest disappointment.. especially considering Ravenelli's knee injury and Christie being sold in the January transfer window. Of recent times, Alberto Bueno was misused and he had so much talent

Oh yes. Boris Johnson!

Pipped to be a wonder kid but ended up being as good as Boris dressed as wonder woman.

No he wasn't. He was already in his early twenties running things for Ilkeston town when Derby offered him a deal. No mentions of him ever being a wonder kid or one for the future. Just a cheap option from non league to see whether he developed further.

Not so much 'got away', but I can remember a number of players we sold during the PL years which made very little sense at the time and played a key role in our demise.

The likes of Chris Powell, Christian Dailly, Lee Carsley and Spencor Prior and of course Stimac and Wanchope in the same summer. Within 15 months a top 10 team was ripped apart and replaced by rubbish.
