He was clearly a class act when on loan with us & we would have all loved to have bought him but Everton were never going to get him go. It was a short term arrangement that worked well for all involved.

Uncle Mel would have found the dough to get him.
clarkeram7
Yakubu was by far the biggest disappointment.. especially considering Ravenelli's knee injury and Christie being sold in the January transfer window. Of recent times, Alberto Bueno was misused and he had so much talent

clarkeram7
His record in Spain is respectable for a midfield player and got him a move to Porto.
Sparkle
Kevin Wilson did very well after he left Derby, but we wanted the £150,000 a heck of a lot.

He was already in his early twenties running things for Ilkeston town when Derby offered him a deal. No mentions of him ever being a wonder kid or one for the future. Just a cheap option from non league to see whether he developed further.

He played in the three behind Kuqi and then out wide once we'd lost Commons and Kuqi. Scored 28 in 72 from attacking midfield, I think 17 were in 14/15 and he got a move to Porto. Bris Vegas
Not so much 'got away', but I can remember a number of players we sold during the PL years which made very little sense at the time and played a key role in our demise. The likes of Chris Powell, Christian Dailly, Lee Carsley and Spencor Prior and of course Stimac and Wanchope in the same summer. Within 15 months a top 10 team was ripped apart and replaced by rubbish.
