First six games, how difficult a start does it seem to be?

With Newcastle, Villa, & Norwich in the Championship this season I think our number of live Sky Games will be somewhat less this season which in my opinion is no bad thing. Last season we were live on Sky probably more than any other team with 13 or 14 games. TOO MANY, would much prefer to be very successful this season off the radar.

6 Aug 2016 Brighton (h) (3pm)

20 Aug 2016 Aston Villa (h) (3pm)

10 Sep 2016 Newcastle United (h) (3pm)

13 Sep 2016 Ipswich Town (h) (7.45pm)

24 Sep 2016 Blackburn Rovers (h) (3pm)

15 Oct 2016 Leeds United ( h) (3pm)

18 Oct 2016 Brentford (h) (7.45pm)

29 Oct 2016 Sheffield Wednesday (h) (3pm)

Those are our first eight home games. Every single team there will be hoping for top six at least. That is a testing start for Nigel Pearson, for it's the home form which really seals a manager's reputation with the fans. Win six of those and everything will be looking very rosy. Of course if we lose six of them everyone will be getting very jumpy.

I'd also assume that both the Newcastle and Villa games will get switched for Sky.

Away from the first six the run in looks pretty decent to me. What strikes me looking at the fixtures is how little I fear most teams. Advantage to us in the early top of the table games, then as it stands only the reverse of those 3 and 2 games against Norwich that will be particularly tricky. For where we want to be we have to be looking at overcoming Wednesday, Cardiff and the rest of the chasing pack, and performing at even 80% we should.

Believe me Blackburn are not in contention for top 6  The only reason I don't think its too hard of a start is because we are at home for the 'hardest' ones

Apart from Brighton on the opening day that's not a bad start. Good to get the promoted and relegated sides before they find their footing.

Glad that you made it through the night, Rample.

Blackburn have a new manager who has previously achieved a promotion from this league, are out of embargo and Venky's, for all their faults, have never been shy of spending money. Blackburn's squad is pretty good overall, and the one advantage of being in embargo was that they have been able to reduce the amortisation liability, which means that overall, they'll probably have quite a bit more money than us to spend, without the need to sell first.

Believe me, Blackburn will be shooting for top six. They may well fail, but it's way too early to write them off.

It is too early to write any team off. There are probably 20 teams that feel that they should be aiming for a top 6 finish.

If the first six were reversed so we play our home games away & our away games at home then we'd probably face a tougher start. Having the home advantage against three probable contenders early on is a good thing, and our away fixtures offer us a good chance to start some good away form from the beginning.

We are very low on skys pecking list this year. Not one mention of Derby in their fixtures blurb.Even Leeds get a mention.
