Guest
Sounds like he is ready for a return to the first team squad. Got to say I would be tempted to start him. Not got a problem with Shackells defending, it's been very good. My problem is his distribution. It has reached the stage now where the opposition are wanting him to get the ball from our goalkeeper because they know it will mean a slow build up. Anyone else think it's worth a try or is his defending the most important thing to the team?
RicME85
play him in a 3 at the back, got 3-5-2, can be attacking or defending with that formation
Duracell
He's not as good defensively as Shackell but miles better in terms of distribution. Buxton was part of the good run last season and integral to our 13/14 surge - on both occasions, we conceded very few purely because there was so little defending to do. There were obvious triangles and ways of distributing the ball from front to back, and we were so hard to defend against because absolutely every player could find someone else in space as quickly as they found it. The problem with the Keogh/Shackell partnership is that one is very good at distribution, and the other is very poor. It didn't take long for the opposition to notice that if you put the centre forward on Keogh's shoulder, we really struggle to get the ball out from the back. Every time Carson picked up the ball yesterday, Keogh was effectively marked. Shackell would receive the ball, and turn around in acres of space, but all his team-mates were marked. Surprisingly, his method of leaning back after and pumping a floaty, flat ball 40 yards up the pitch doesn't really cut mustard.
Wolfie20
Unbelievable that anyone would consider leaving Shackell out of the starting X1 - even if it was to accommodate Bucko. Unlike the fullbacks who are more likely to be needed for their attacking qualities, central defenders first and foremost have to be just that - defenders. I agree that Shackells' distribution isn't great but then neither is Huths' and Morgans' but just look at how vital they have been to Leicesters' success so far this season. Ewetube
Don't you think it's strange that Jake's absence from the starting line-up over the past year or so has coincided with our drop-off in performances and team spirit?

In modern football, and certainly the way we play, good distribution is essential for our central defenders. We are still conceding goals and not scoring, just thought a change like this would give the opposition more to think about.

Ash
Where would the three play? Keogh Bucko Shackell? Considering 442 didn't work, why not give 352 a go?

MackworthRamIsGod
Back 3 for me, 3-5-2, would be a way of playing attacking football, having a player sitting behind 2 strikers.

Sexydadbod
Carson Keogh Shackell Buxton Thorne Christie Olsson Butterfield Bryson Ince Martin Why not eh?
MackworthRamIsGod
Could Martin play a more deeper role? Could he be the one to play behind two goal scoring attackers? He receives the ball with back to goal, can hold it up, our problem is there is never anyone behind him to get the ball.
