Derby blood
Martin Not for Sale to important to us,also proven 20 goal a season man,not easy to replace.Hughes Not For Sale,I need to enjoy him for at least a couple more seasons, this lad is a joy to watch.Build the team around these players, which I believe we are doing, and promotion is not far away? Tombo
Love these threads because people always highly undervalue our players in some attention seeking attempt to seem "different" and "realistic".Nothing realistic about intentionally playing down our quality to look cool. Bris Vegas
Love these threads because people always highly undervalue our players in some attention seeking attempt to seem "different" and "realistic".Nothing realistic about intentionally playing down our quality to look cool.Think there is a diference between how much a player is worth, his true value and how much club's are willing to pay for them. Is Gareth Bale worth 100m? To Real Madrid he was, to most others absolutely not. Some transfers go for ridiculously cheap amounts, some go for ridiculously expensive. Harsh to criticise people on this forum for judging our players at a lower amount - perhaps that is what they're worth to some.People saying Martin is a 9m player. To us, he's the pivot of our attacking play and utterly crucial. But to someone like Norwich, he's just another striker who didn't fit their system and was ultimately deemed worthless. How Hendrick is anything more than a 3m player to me is ludicrous, but if Villa are willing to offer 5m then that's how much he's worth to them.Hughes is another. 15m? Seriously?, He's a good Championship midfielder with potential, but in the British market his value is arguably far greater than his true ability/potential. Bris Vegas
Just to give an example, IMO: (in pounds - no pound sign key!)Chris Martin:What he's worth to us: $8mWhat his true value is: $3mWhat somebody might pay for him: $4mJeff Hendrick:What he's worth to us: $3mWhat his true value is: $4mWhat somebody might pay for him: $6m
RamNut
Love these threads because people always highly undervalue our players in some attention seeking attempt to seem "different" and "realistic".Nothing realistic about intentionally playing down our quality to look cool.outside the premier league there isn't a lot of money about. Many players move for no fee. Many fees are undisclosed. I bet at one time people would have put values against bywater, mceverley, addison, bailey, cywka.....all of whom left for nothing.i expect people would have valued brayford at more than £1.5m and shackell at more than £1m. We probably got sod all for coutts, ben davies, and freeman. Legzdins was a free transfer. Tyson nil. Theo robinson fk all. Commons sold for £300k. In the past we had to pay off loads of players so it cost us to get rid. We paid nothing for grant. On what basis would we expect a fee?carson has just moved. There wasn't much of a scramble for him.christie paid £300k. If he has lost his place then we would be lucky to get all our money back.forsyth cost £150k. Ok he's a scottish international but he's not everyones cup of tea. £400k seems a reasonable guess.warnock and baird we paid next to nothing for. You expect a fee for 33 year olds? Etc etc etc etcas for the big value players.....thorne, hughes and hendrick and martin.....thorne injury will affect his value until he rediscovers fitness and form. He cost £2.5m so if we chose to sell now we would get less money back. Hughes is clearly our best and most valuable player. But would you pay £10m? Maybe 8m? If he got a move to villa he might get first team football, but for many other prem sides he would be a squad player and they wouldn't spend silly money on a bench warmer. As his contract runs down so does his value. Martin suits our style but his lack of pace, power and mobility will make him alot less desirable than a Troy Deeney....i can't see a premier league team buying him so how much do championship sides pay for strikers? RamNut
Its also worth remembering that this team (minus martin) plummetted down the table with relegation form for the last 10 games of the season. We seem to be rapidly replacing half the team and all the coaches have been sacked bar one so we will have a glut of players and will be keen to sell those who don't merit a first team place. Whether we stay down or go up, we will want to replace those players.those grant calamities ultimately cost a lot of other people their jobs and will also have affected player values.
