Leicester Ram
Imagine a midfield of Thorne, Mascarell and Hughes; I don't think the opposition would ever see the ball.
Stive Pesley
Neither would Eustace, Bryson or Hendick
Duracell
A lot is made of Hughes' size. That wouldn't be a problem if the rest of the midfield had a physical presence. Pirlo's carved a fairly decent career in his position without much size to him at all - there's no reason why Hughes can't be like that at our level, but he needs time to find out if he can do it. Still, it won't be long before Omar's first choice in that position, and then we'll be worrying ourselves about who to drop from the Bryson/Hendrick/Hughes trio every week. AmericanRam
I really hope Omar gets the start today just to see what he can do with more playing time. However,I believe no differences from the SWFC game will probably be the case.
Tombo
Imagine a midfield of Thorne, Mascarell and Hughes; I don't think the opposition would ever see the ball. Hopefully we'll see that happen at some point this season, when Thorne comes back.
rammieib
That midfield wouldn't be effective - you need your attacking players in there that break beyond and get in the box - for me, none of them are that type of player. Just because a player on paper is good - doesn't mean three similar good players works. You need a balance and variety...
pej1956
I thing Craig R was right. Eustace should compete with Mascarell for the holding role and the other 3 should compete for the other 2 roles. Horses for courses!
Dale The Ram
Hughes cant be as good as Pirlo in that role IMO Tbh I haven't seen Hughes play the holding role yet but Pirlo has a quality only a select few have... Being calm and collected under pressure and making the right decision more times than not. Plus Pirlo in the Italy and Juve team has players like Marchisio, De Rossi, Pogba and Vidal to help on the defensive side. Maybe us playing Hughes and Mascarell/Eustace in front of the back 4 would help but then youre back to square one with locking out either Bryson or Hendrick for the starting position.
