The player is incompetent and the manager who bought him and played him for a year has also been removed from his job, arguably, for incompetence. I wouldnt say in any way that Nigel Clough was removed as a result of his incompetence - that debate has done the rounds on here and l don't want to go there here as everything that can be said has been said. The fact is Sammon is still being picked in the match day squad by his successor. What does that tell you? If Steve Mac doesn't see any value then he simply wouldn't pick him preferring another youth player/loanee. In some circumstances, Steve probably thinks like a lot of us that for the final quarter of a game, having a bustling Sammon run riot on tired defenders legs could open up space for our attacking midfielders to get shots away. He was given a good 20 mins yesterday and im sure Steve is above and beyond the need to 'put him in the shop window' for sale. Even if we are planning on bringing in Best/another, would he persist with him for the Rangers game/rest of pre season over other new recruits that would benefit from a run out in the first team at this stage? AmberValleyRam1884 Posted August 3, 2014 Share Posted August 3, 2014 Sammon has got the ability but he's let down when it comes down to his composure and confidence infront of goal, when warming up at the Burton pre-season game he looked de-motivated, highlighted when the Derby fans were jeering everytime he was in the spotlight. Having Leon Best in as cover/motivation for Martin or even as another option, is a good idea. The confirmation of the deal is said to be announced officially by Derby in the next 48 hours. AmericanRam Posted August 3, 2014 Share Posted August 3, 2014 TBH anyone is really better than Sammon, but I actually like Best for the most part. Granted, he has underwhelmed a lot of the time during his career, but he has some potential and can put the goal in the back of the net on occassion. He will be a backup to Martin, and I think he will be a solid one. Even will be a nice relief perhaps if SM wants to give some starters some breathers in cup games, which he probably will not do as our squad is not as big as other teams.
