Derby didn't decide to defend deep as part of a tactical master plan. They ended up playing so deep because they couldn't do anything about it. McClaren stated it wasn't part of the game plan. The reason we ended up so deep was because the midfield was AWOL for most of the game. Thorne and Bryson in particular weren't at the races. These two and Hendrick have proven they are excellent players at this level so what went wrong? Probably nerves, AKA as 'bottle'. Thursday would have been the biggest game they have ever played in, which now moves on to tomorrow being the biggest game they will have played in.

If the midfield turns up tomorrow we will breeze it. If they bottle it again we might have a problem.

Anyway, 2-1 to Derby. Russell fgs.

Moved the possession debate to its own thread, don't want it clogging up this thread about potentially one our greatest nights in years.

nice work, it was becoming about 60:40 in favour of possession, which isn't in itself a bad thing, but more to do with how the predictions came in early meaning they went on the back foot, allowing possession to dominate.
